Re: 1/6 Hot Toys - MMS - Avengers: AOU - Hulkbuster

I hate the exposed joints on all characters, I especially hate it when they have unnecessary ugly seems..., a good example of that would be Hawkeye's head/neck seem, totally avoidable & could easily be changed.

You should buy a statue. 1/6 figures are made for posing. Some people might pose Hawkeye looking up or looking down, etc...

Re: 1/6 Hot Toys - MMS - Avengers: AOU - Hulkbuster

No idea what it is, which is probably what Hot Toys Howard thinks when someone mentions Threezero issuing his company a challenge. :lol

It's a pretty impressive 22-inch tall mech figure, based off of an Xbox One videogame. It's got tons of articulation and great paint apps, all for less than $450. I think a lot of collectors/reviewers will be drawing comparisons between the two.

The atlas is a good looking large "figure"/vehicle. But the overall mass and size are not really in line with the size of the HB. The lower body especially. It does have more edges and hard lines to it then Hulkbuster. It's just not near as massive. I'd be willing to bet that HB is 30-45% larger in terms of overall mass/girth. At least when I compare the Prototype HB to the Atlas photos and videos I've seen. The paint on the Atlas is really well done though. Top notch in fact.

Anyone drawing comparisons between the two should take into account the cost for Mavel AOU license vs this video game. ;)

Which can be done without the nasty seem joint, I'm not stupid..., I have many figures & all are perfectly fine with no eye sore visible joints. As for a statue, I prefer figures because more often than not statues are awkwardly posed.

But if we're talking about logistical challenges and craftsmanship, not to mention articulation, Atlas is quite impressive. And ThreeZero has a lot to be proud of.

Agreed, pretty neat you can stuff the pilot in there. ;)

Gee man why you gotta be negative all the time....just messing with you.

Yes it can be done where joints are hidden. Depends on a lot of factors. In the case of Hawkeye from Avengers 1 it was a recycled body (from Indy if I'm not mistaken) so the neck joint had to be adapted for that body.

As for hiding joints and articulation points...it's not a simple deal. If they are covered like with the thor light armor body and leonidas and whatnot, then you have to have a material that is not only flexible and durable but long lasting and paintable. And those bodies, though I too prefer them, are a lot more expensive to construct and are an engineering nightmare. With the current level of technology we have there's always going to be some joints if you want articulation.

What annoys me is Hot Toys knows that unnecessary extra head neck joint looks terrible but they still put it in then they go out of their way to avoid using any pictures showing a side shot of the characters in their previews. Hawkeye became a total pass once I saw that ugly neck joint.

If I'd gone by the official pictures of the first Hawkeye & not seen some Comic Con ones then I'd have sent the figure back thinking it defective, I'd hoped that they'd have done something better with the joint for the 2nd version..., there's not need for it to look like it does as they can have articulation without it looking as it currently does, I'm still hoping they may yet change it by the time it gets made but I won't hold my breath. :(

Touché. :) With the new Hawkeye I was pleased he would be more fully clothed because of the new jacket so the issue of joints isn't really there on the second figure, it's just that nasty looking seem on the head sculpt that bugs me, it looks weird & I had hoped they'd have changed it for the new figure..., they still might of course if the figure shown at Toy Soul was merely a fill in as suggested. :)

Yeah the Hawkeye at the Toy soul show was not a final figure. It was an original hawkeye body and head with an updated one off wardrobe. Until the first production figure gets to either a reviewer or customer there's no way to know for sure. I would think he will get a new HS. This isn't like some of the other reused ones. This character is four years older at least. And given how much improvement Hot Toys has made in their figures I think a new HS would be something they would do. Just have to wait.

Re: 1/6 Hot Toys - MMS - Avengers: AOU - Hulkbuster

My thoughts exactly, this new coat he has is a great addition. It is just that stupid neck seam that needs to disappear. The arm joints are super annoying for me, like on the new Falcon figure, so ugly. I'm gonna get a jacket for him and I might get something for the new Tony Stark figure if I get him

Any of the figures I have that have bare arm costumes I try to replace the stock bodies with a rubber version. So that's an option.

Yeah, waiting is always the frustrating part..., even when we get to see the final figure it'll be a year or more until we get the figure in hand. I'm sure all of the promotional pictures will look great, I'll probably cave this time as the seem if it's still there..., will be the only visible issue & won't be noticeable as long as I have the figure facing forward.

Re: 1/6 Hot Toys - MMS - Avengers: AOU - Hulkbuster

The proto is never going to match the finished production piece, ever. They are constructed of different materials (usually, unless like the toy soul aoa figures like hawkeye where it's a redressed previous figure..) they are painted differently, and usually with different paint. The prototype is used to show the general figure look. Just like a sketch is done before a painting, or a foam core mock up is used before a set is constructed, or a movie trailer, or a concept car..it's just a visualization. And a setup to help with manufacturing stuff.

If you are not happy with the differences or can't live with them then I would suggest, and this is for anyone/everyone/no one specific, wait for an actual in hand production piece before you order or make up your mind. There could be massive changes between a production piece and a proto. Usually it's just minor stuff if it gets noticed. But they could change everything if marvel(or whom ever the licensor is for which ever figure) doesn't approve of the figure. If it says pending license approval that means it hasn't even been ok'd for production yet.

I would guess the concept car at an auto show would be the closet approximation most people would understand. They always change. That's what happens with these hot toys protos also. Sometimes they are taped together, or use silly putty or poster gum to hold parts on. They usually do not have articulation. Trust me, you wouldn't want the production piece to be exactly like most protos.
