I dunno if the dye on the leather can be transferred to cloth of Luke's outfit. But I'm pretty sure the hood of Obi wan's robe dye could stain the head of left for quite some time. Best to use some masking tape on the hood so there's no direct contact just to be sure.

Thanks for posting the review khai, excited to get this one soon. Any chance you or anyone else could let me know if the sideshow x wing head properly fits inside the training helmet? Eventually I want to put a hot toys head on the pilot and wouldn't have any other use for the ssc head.

Thanks for watching! I havent tried putting the Sideshow head inside the training helmet. I don't see why it wouldnt fit, especially with the hair piece off.

Weird. So the hook is removable but falls apart.

And there's a dial underneath to wind the string back up but it doesn't seem to work either. WTH...?

Would be awesome if it worked. But I think tit should at least work the way they SHOW IT in the HT official pics for the BONUS EX -- they show an open grappling hook.

I agree. I can't wait to get this in hand and really look at it so I can figure out what's going on. I wonder if there is a way to mod it or sure it up so that it's more functional and can be displayed with the open grappling hook in his hand? I'm kind of surprised this feature hasn't been talked about more, it has iconic potential for Luke to be displayed using his grappling hook and HT lead us to believe that we would be able to accomplish that kind of look.

Mine is out for delivery....now do I wait and open him him on Christmas morning or do I open him as soon as I get home...

Here's my look at the new Hot Toys Luke Skywalker figure. As an overall package, it totally puts to shame the recent Sideshow Pilot Luke in terms of value for money! Comes with an awesome array of accessories.

But I still think the head sculpt is not as accurate as it could have been, and isn't even as good as the picture on the box art! But I do a comparison with the Sideshow Pilot Luke head sculpt too.

Hopefully you can check it out :)

Nice review. Just one thing though, the rifle is used in the movie. Luke carries it on his Landspeeder and when R2 alerts him to the approaching Sandpeople he grabs it out of the speeder.

Wow, what a nicely packed release this is ... compared to Sideshow's X-Wing Luke. :lol

A lot of great detail and paintwork on the macrobinoculars, but very little on the rifle whose simple brown plastic is reminiscent of a gun from '60s / '70s Action Man/GI Joe.

Struggled for a while to get the goggles to stay onto the hat, but once on there I decided I didn't like that look.

Changed my mind, and no way can I get the goggles to stay on again. Must've been a fluke the first time, because now the elastic just seems too tight and the goggles keep pulling the hat off his head. :slap

Go to 1:17 of the video and you can see the grappling hook and how it works. It comes off the belt and the cord can come out and be wound back...

Why it wouldn't be the same on the Farmboy Stormtrooper belt I have no idea.

Edit: :lol watch carefully and you will notice that part of the grappling hook falls off his - hope it's something that goes right back on and isn't something that breaks to easily.

Thanks, I remember seeing another example of this somewhere. Aren't we ( Luke Ex'ers) getting the same exact belt?

Comparing the two they look identical. Not going to risk taking the grapple out, as the instructions warn against it. Don't recall the same warning with Luke Trooper, though I wasn't tempted to take that one out either.

I was half tempted to use the belt on the desert boy, but the leather belt just has more going for it.

Here you go. I removed the grapple hook, it slips out pretty easily and you can open it up. It only has a very short cord though, so you can't really pull it out any further.

Yeah, for most that's the rule, but for alot of us posing Luke w ST belt and Lei fighting off ST's from the transom, this feature is pretty important so mods will follow.

It's good to have the option, but I would need a second figure, and a second Han to go with him.

The macrobinoculars are such a well made and painted accessory that they've dictated the look I've gone for.

And it seemed a waste not to use the hat and goggles. The poncho, however, would cover up too much detail. I'd need a third figure for that.

The seeker droid is there just because. :lol

Just because it's a cool looking thing, and little floating droids are very Star Warsy. Special Edition or not, the Sandtrooper will have his patrol droid companion for the same reason tomorrow (if UPS are to be believed).

Thanks, the cord IS short in that picture for sure. I was hoping to have enough line to pose Luke like he is pulling it out preparing to throw it. Seems like there should be away to figure something out, it's so close to being what you need for it.

THANKS for that.

Now as in the video (and your picture above) there's a little dial on the bottom you can see that is supposed to retrieve the line back up -- doesn't seem to work in the video but then again the whole hook falls apart too.

So why did HT construct this with the wheel if it really can't retrieve the line?

In the video he also pulls a lot of line out. Just don't know what the hell is going on here -- is this a failed device (like Vader's voice function) that HT didn't bother to fix in to rush to get these out pre-TFA opening? Or does it work and everyone's afraid to try it?

I think HT is just playing it safe... It's a delicate piece and I'm sure someone in the company said, "Can you imagine all the QC issues this will bring?... Well, just make a note in the instruction book not to use it.."

I say go for it! Mod it! Fix it! Yeah, you shouldn't have to, but what are you going to do? Otherwise vote with your dollar and pass on it.

I supposed if you could open that box with the wheel -- which you must be able to -- you could see exactly how that wheel is supposed to wrap up the line and how much line is in there. Clearly the grappling hook works (or at least springs open once removed).

Holy crap you're right LOL!!! I only watched it the other day too!! I guess I never really paid attention. It's in the scene too where the Tusken Raider attacks him and knocks him down lol!!! Will add an annotation to the video - thanks for the correction!

This is an ex bonus. Passing on the figure over this seems a little of an over reaction.
