That is what I'm betting on also. And it will be what sets off HT, and they'll attempt to make one themselves due to ego. I feel InArt can make an amazing COTBP Jack and it will be the definitive version.
I'll disagree there. HT is a well oiled machine, and consistent. Whether InArt can get their QC and production in line remains to be seen - including just shipping the right head with an order. Or, I only had a 10% worry I might have a problem with an HT fig. With InArt it's 50/50 or higher.

Just finished watching CotBP again.

Man I would love this in 1:6.
Barbossa (Cursed or not)
And Jack (Cursed or not)
With the chest connecting the two bases.

I remember having every NECA figure back in the day and all had bases that connected.

I could've sworn I've seen someone make 1/6 scale skeleton Barbossa and Jack before, I'd have to dig for it though.

There's been some customs I've seen. Nothing mass produced or licensed.
Yes, all customs.

The same person also had a nice cannibal Jack and Davy Jones custom.

I can't find the Barbossa custom, it was from a different person.

So my buddy that works for a Statue Company says The Pirates license can be bought either as a Franchise license (which is more expensive) or each film individually (which is cheaper).

Though Hes not sure on how Depps likeness rights are contracted as that's another complex animal altogether....

Why should folks who don't mind if it's "not a specific look" and just a spectacular figure say anything, except be happy that their money was well spent and this figure - at least mine - came out of the box proto quality? This is a character whose look evolved/tweaked through a series of films, probably thanks to the personal input of the actor involved. I suspect Depp was having a lot of fun working with the costumers. Probably selected all the beads etc. himself because he wears that kind of thing in real life.

And I don't know that "most think" - besides unknown licensing issues. As far as I know, licensing is very specific. You can only make/distribute what a license says unless you are the 3rd parties that shall not be named.:monkey3 And collectors IMO, to a degree, cause releases by themselves. Folks often want the fig from the last movie which in theory is always the better figure (and this sculpt is certainly an improvement from early Jack efforts). DMTNT made ~800 million global box office, so we're not talking a bomb here. Who knows from merch and streaming. For all we know, the COTBP license is the cheapest, being ~20 year old film.

Like, I'm not ditching my latest Obi fig (great fig:love) because of a lackluster script. And I sure don't feel taken advantage of.

Make a product I like and I'll buy it, nobody threatened me. So if it's a conspiracy to get my money, HT can carry on. That may annoy people who regularly sell/trade figs for the "best" version but I never buy for anything but enjoyment. (Nobody threatened me into getting the SW Artisan either; even tho I own the original CW version). Finally, the later Jacks having a more elaborate costume/hair justifies a higher price. The COTBP figure would be easier to output; but so - maybe you want an elaborate base/accessories. But not everyone wants that or has the room.

I'm just hard pressed to think that the HT folks are sitting around scheming that 5 years from now, they'll release the "ultimate" Jack Sparrow. Well maybe.:lol The 25th Anniversary version:monkey3. But will their "typical" consumer want to spend $700-$1,000 on a character from a movie ~25 years old, by then. I'm sure HT thinks about that too.
At the end of the day, it’s not the ideal look, arguably speaking.

This isn’t a regular thing, mind you. Most of the time, the “definitive” looks for characters are the ones being made or in most cases, you have options. With the character of Jack Sparrow in 1/6 by Hot Toys main looks (excluding MMS57 Cannibal Jack DMC version) , you only have the extremely old and dated AWE version, followed by the DX06 (OST) and (2) DMTNT offerings in the DX15 and DX37/38/39. It’d be a different story if there was a great COTBP offering option, but that’s not the case is it now?

Iconic character designs will always stand the test of time. Not sure why you think otherwise or insinuating that companies would disagree with that. I don’t think you understood what I meant by my post lol, I never implied that they’re “scheming”. All I was alluding to is that there’s probably/likely a contractual reason as to why we haven’t gotten a COTBP Jack release yet and I’m speculating just like everyone else and their mom does on these forums.

Yeah so this would support my speculative theory where HT simply is being cost-efficient by renewing the singular DMTNT license and not pursuing the COTBP license separately since it’s probably more expensive than simply renewing/or obtaining the current DMTNT license.

These Artisan figures blow me away. The realism and detail is crazy! It reminds me of when I got my first HT figure in 2002 ( which I still have) The CQB Navy Seal. I remember being blown away from the real shoe laces and fabric gloves, not to mention all the gear. I'll take some pics with the better camera later. Also maybe need to do some Futzing.

So something I just noticed. Medicom's Jack was released under the Dead Man's Chest license. NOT Curse (even though the figure is based off Curse) so technically speaking there's never been any 1:6 CotBP figures....interesting.

Another repackaged under At Worlds End....

I have owned them ALL. I had the original DMC Medicom, actually bought two to try my hand at repainting the head to make it look less cheap. The first HT Jack felt like a huge leap forward in overall realism, but, it came out in the days of "one size fits all" bodies for HT figures and their Jack reminded me of the early 90s Kenner Star Wars figures that had He-Man-esque body proportions lol.

It was amazing when DX06 released because they finally used a body that was more suited to Depp's build.

Overally, every new HT Jack has been a step up in quality, even just the original MMS to the Cannibal MMS, but it's shocking the things they still don't do right even after all this time, or regress in. MMS Jack had a perfectly sculpted hat, and every hat since has gotten worse looking.

Every release has a brown coat, though the newer ones are at least a better shade than MMS.

There hasn't been a stock Sparrow figure yet that I would leave untouched. I have customized since DX06.

Only one I missed out on was the Cannibal Jack. I skipped that one in favor of AWE because I wanted the coat. Cannibal Jack was also more expensive than AWE. And this was back when I didn't make **** for money so it was 1 per character rule for me.
