I'm quite eager to get the new neutral portrait in hand to look at in person along with the DX15.

In the screen grab from Justin's review above, the DX15 looks as good as it does in hand, but the DX37/8/9 doesn't look as good as some pictures have shown it to be able to look. Iris position and head position can certainly come into play, but I see Depp in shots like these.

Totally fair.

I’m just glad I secured the DX15 neutral plate. Once I get the DX38 and I can compare both in my hands, I’ll make a decision.

I agree though, in some instances, it does look better than usual.
It’s a fun detail to have even if it’s never going to be seen

Is that your DMC/AWE custom? I think you shared your COTBP version a year ago, but do you have any pics of your DMC/AWE?

Yep, it’s part of my DMC/AWE custom and I should be getting my DX37 parts in today to start the upgrade process on a few bits. I still need to paint and swap the spare buttons I have from the DX15 vest onto my custom vest (which is DMC front sewed to UU back). The pattern on the back of the UU vest is still the most accurate.

Once that’s done, I’ll share pics when I can. I’ve been super busy with long work days and haven’t had time to adequately take pics of the Artisan with the different hats I have, either which is still on my to-do list as well.

EDIT:
I think I may have had the slight realization that a "best of" look may actually be the way to go as some of you guys in the thread have pointed out. Having put my DMC/AWE figure back together with the updated parts, I've come to see that it really isn't all that different from the sort of overall visual standpoint when it comes to Jack's "look" much like what @MaulFan has previously said. No rash decisions as DMC is my favorite POTC movie, but maybe JND will make their statue from that movie to go along with their Davy Jones statue.

The AWE vest sticks out like a sore thumb to me due to it's outdated tailoring with it's large stitches and stud buttons compared to the smaller and finer stitch/sewing work on the new vest. But, I may try to work on it some more before giving up all hope.

Even though they are my least favorite of the series, I think I may end up going with a stripped down OST no hat or coat look with DX15 serious face look for one Jack display and a full captain's gear look with the smirking face for the Artisan DMTNT figure on the new black pearl base.

My first Jack Sparrow figure. A fun, great looking figure with enough accessories for endless posing possibilities.

I picked up the Deluxe version and decided to hot glue the wheel support to the base to prevent slippage. I only glued at four small points so that I can one day easily remove without damage. See circled orange highlights below.

I did the same thing but instead of glue used mounting putty, holds great

PC: Guillaume_Customs on Instagram.

I don’t think Guillaume is on here, but love the futzing work he did with the stock figure and in modifying certain things: shirt opening, removed the croc belt, painted the palm glove, and “shortened some accessories”.

It’s crazy what a difference it makes.

I think I’ll end up doing the same and I’d remove other non-AWE items like the palm/wrist wrap. The overall head-sculpt will always be off but oh well. I can live with this even if I don’t replace the OST/DMTNT vest.

Nothing special but Artisan Jack #2 rolled in, and letting him warm up before I do anything with him. Right out of the box.

This fig is just like, pure joy. Even getting a second. Beautiful sculpt and costume:love. The idea being to mix it up with serious and smirking Jacks, eventually. Hatted, unhatted, weapons, bottles, etc.

Sure I'd pick up a POTC release if it ever happens, or maybe the JND piece if it doesn't suck, but just plain enjoy all the work that went into this release with all the dangles, weathering, detailed hands. No regrets on paying upcharges for missing the SSC gauntlet, at least I got him. Them. :monkey3 Just had to ditch getting a "lesser figure" :monkey3 sorry Marvel!

Dreary day so not a lot of natural light shining in the cabinets so took him out to share the current DMC/AWE set up.

Minimal futzing and no modding done yet on the DX37 parts

Non-DX37 parts:
Hat-repainted HT AWE
Vest- HT AWE front with UU back
Shirt-UltimateUnison
Sash-UU
Pants- weathered DX06 I believe or the KO DX06
Hands-UU
Flintlock-DX06
Wrist wrap-DX06
Keys-HT AWE
Headpiece- heavily modified DX15 with dreads from DX15 and UU, large rear braid (not seen) from AWE head, trinkets and piece of 8 from AWE head, bandana from UU

It's not bad. I would just prefer finer stitch work. This would be something simple enough for WonderWorld to make I'd bet. Would be great if they did proper, sewn on shank buttons as well even if they don't have the full detail like the ones HT used on the DX06 and DX15.

I also prefer finer 1/6 stitch work, but to this day, Hot Toys still don’t even properly scale things. I guess what I’m saying, is that it’s not bad for what it is and how dated the AWE vest is. Thanks to these pics, I’d feel better about it grabbing one and customizing it with the DX15 buttons. I was worried the navy blue color was going to be too saturated as well and it doesn’t seem like that’s the case. With the frock coat, you wouldn’t even see much of it anyway.

I came across these pics of Depp in DMTNT costume and the stock figure doesn’t even resemble this IMO

Maybe this appearance here^. Maybe just a tad..

I think these pics show that Guillaume made the shirt opening a bit too low on his custom, while HT is a bit too high. Somewhere between the two would be accurate.

If you want to be truly accurate to DMC/AWE, you'll also need to paint the buttons a silver color vs the bronze/copper-ish color they are on the DX06/DX15

To be fair, I think Guillaume is going for a DMC/AWE look where there is a greater shirt opening and chest is more exposed. He knows it’s an amalgamation Jack figure.

Noted. Shouldn’t be too hard… I know for a fact, I’ll end up spending the money on these mods only for Hot Toys to do a proper original trilogy based design lol

This is exactly how I feel now that I spent so much on all of these parts :slap
You know but I think one of the biggest issues I have with the new sculpt is how light brown the (irises) eyes are.
