Well, based on SilentSurfer's work, I'm afraid to say that it's plain as day that the WGP is definitely not the definitive Indy sculpt. In his hands that honour will always belong to the SSC sculpt.

I have deliberately kept the majority of my comments out of the WGP thread so as not to dissuade anyone that is still awaiting theirs. That is, after all, a thread that wants to promote and sell the item, and who are we to stop them doing that!?

I'm cleaning up my SSC sculpt and will post a pic or two when I've primed it as I've never seen that sculpt in that state before.

Yeah, bummer. In hand the unpainted sculpt looks mjust like him!

When I first saw Trevor's sculpt in its raw state all those years back, I was blown away. I initially thought SSC had blown it yet again when I had the figure in hand. However, when repaints began emerging, SilentSurfer's and SmallStudios in particular, it became apparent that it was just SSC's production paint that was throwing things off.

I'm hoping that when I prime mine the magic will return once again. Indy is a project I have to be jazzed about before I attempt it. If I love what I'm doing then the results really show.

So you're digging the Trad sculpt now?

It's really nice, perhaps nearly on-par with the SSC, just not the home run I thought it would be. Very surprising. Better from certain angles than others. Makes you wonder if sculptors should include a paint-up phase before releasing just to see how it is looking, then do tweaks, instead of just relying on the solid color.

The smiling is pretty good but the middle-of-the-brow wrinkles (left over from the trad sculpt) make the smile look a little creepy and I'm just not sure you want an INdy with a big grin on his face on your shelf. 1/6 figs are always a pretty serious bunch.

Silentsurfer has just posted some pics of his paint-ups of the WGP Indy. Amazing stuff - the ultimate paint-ups of these two heads. I'm not a huge fan of the smiling even despite unbelievably good apps including the teeth (has a bit of Dexter in there...) but the trad really shines, especially with SS's incredibly realistic heavy stubble.

Here's some pics comparing his paint-ups of the SSC head and the WGP. Obviously the SSC one is much older (maybe 3-4 yrs ago) and SS's skills have gotten even more incredible (esp. in the stubble department...) but interesting to see.

Note that I did tweak the colors subtly to make them match up a little better (the SSC pics were very red for some reason.)

That's a great comparison. The WGP is oh-so-close. Is it the chin maybe? Too pointy/big?

But damn, Silent Surfer is such a great painter.

I still think Trevor's sculpt is the best around. It looks great with an expert repaint. My only criticism is that it's a tad bit oversized.

Yep, everytime a new version comes out it's still the SSC sculpt that ends up with the best likeness. Over the last 15 years of working on and updating my Indy fig, I think I'm sticking with Trev's sculpt and calling it a day

Have to agree... Silent Surfer's paint work just confirms that this is not the end-all sculpt many thought it would be. I think the shape of the jaw and face is just a bit to elongated. The parts seem to be there, but all added up I just don't see Ford

Sideshow' almost looks chubby by comparison, but still more accurate to Raiders.

Great comparison, and as usual insane paintwork on Nathan's behalf.

Both sculpts seem close enough to me. Scrutiny is easier when the pic is macro'd up... but in hand I imagine it is very hard to tell a difference.

That said, I like the WGP hat... has real character.

I wonder if you could swap the WGP hat onto the SSC head?

Nathan's paintwork does look amazing, and I can't wait to see the built up Indys with these sculpts on them, but I have to agree, not feeling the sculpt all that much. It almost looks like an animated version of Indy, imo, if that makes sense...

I think it's the larger irises that may be giving that effect. The straight on version has them compared to the SSC shot shows that IMO.

Might very well be that. I think seeing the sculpts on their respective bodies might change my perspective. Can't wait to see yours!

When the best of the best painter wise ( The amazing silent surfer) fails to bring out the best in the WGP sculpt I can finally confirm its a dud. Shame too, we were all hoping it would be the ultimate Indy.

Definitely the best we've seen from that sculpt thouh, amazing paint from Nathan.

I like the look of this a lot. Just to be sure I understand - this is the head from the Medicom KotC figure on the HT figure, right? Has the head been repainted?

No Hot Toys parts at all.
Medi Head, repainted, re-fit for bigger ball joint.
Medi ROTLA Hat, brim diameter shaved down, re-painted.
Medi Shoes, repainted.
SSC KOTCS Pants (re-colored/dyed), Shirt, Gun.
SSC ROTLA Jacket, slightly weathered.
M.Fisher Whip, Holster.
Gun belt made with spare parts I had.
DID Bag, With Modified Strap, Rings, Buckle.
DID Web Belt buckle

Here is an adjustment to the sculpt. I've made an animated GIF to show the oversized chin on the WGP sculpt. This is SilverSurfers paint job. I redid the chin in photoshop. SS paintjob on this is perfect. The sculpt needs to be shaved off a lot! With the adjustment, this IS Indy.
