Dunno how far out Ep I Obi Wan is from release, but SS is working on a light up saber for him. Once development of that saber is ironed out, I think it's a definite possibility for Grievous to include light up sabers as well (if the timing works out), and I certainly wouldn't protest it.

I don't think I can mention how Sideshow is going about the lit saber for Obi-Wan, but it won't work for Grievous. I know cause I painted Obi-Wan. You'll understand when you see Obi. It's actually pretty brilliant, but I think some people will complain about it for one certain reason (which will remain unmentioned) that has nothing to do with how cool it will look. If Grievous's sabers do light up, it will have to be some other way, and then many of the above mentioned concerns (not applicable to Obi-Wan) may be a problem.

Last I heard about the delay on Grievous is that China is having a hell of a time replicating my proto paint job.:lol I for one am EXTREMELY curious how the final product is going to look. I also can't wait to see the four-arm version and one of the only extras I know about.

Don't bother asking, I can't say any more.:nono

Oh, btw, I'm not surprised China is having trouble replicating your paints - that proto was gorgeous, you excelled even above your own high standards. Damn you for gumming up the works! :lol

Seriously, tho, I'd be willing to wait an extra long time if that's what it takes for the paint aps to match your work - will totally make or break the final product!

Seen it in person, and was not impressed. It looked like a 1/6th version of the light up kid sized telescoping sabers that they used to sell at toys r us. Bright at the bottom, dimmer as it goes out to the tip, AND the hilt looked too big.
Not quite hasbro 1/6th giant, but it still looked too big around.

I would respectfully disagree.. The actual shape of the plastic blade is crap (it comes out so maybe a SS could be adapted) but apart from that it rocks. Maybe the batteries were dead on the one you saw?
This is in bright daylight, on a black background so worst possible photography situation...

That saber doesn't look bad, but figures are expensive enough as it is. I will not be interested in figures with a light-up feature. They will not mesh will all of my previous Jedi/Sith figures, and I have no intention of replacing them. I have a bad feeling that the light-up sabers will become the norm, and I'm not sure what I'll do if that becomes the case.

Yeah I'm afraid the prices go up even higher with the light-up sabers included :monkey2

I actually don't care about light-up sabers or stands. I would much prefer extra detailed paint apps and sculpting.

:goodpost::exactly::lecture
The lighting is a cool gimmick for a day to two - but then there's the ongoing cost of running the damn things... couldn't be bothered personally.

My MR Falcon and eFX X-Wing have been lit up once each... I saw that it looked liked/that it worked, and that was enough.

Too much effort for too little reward.

Still looks like a flashlight at the bottom of a tube.
and seen in person, it looks worse. hilt is too big around, and so is the blade. BUT you did address the blade. the problem is that the light source, to look right, needs to be consistent throughout.
In that, the light is extremely bright at the hilt, and gets dimmer as it reaches the tip, and that makes it looks like a 1/6th version of a hasbro roleplay toy.
the one I saw was fresh from the package, and then promptly returned to sideshow.

My issue is this. This looks half-assed. As much as adding light-up sabers is going to affect the price, and it will affect it by 30$ or more, mark my words, it should either look PERFECT, or atleast 90%.
or not be there at all.

Even Hot toys, who are known for pushing the boundaries of what is possible in 1/6th, have said that it's just not possible to do good looking affordable light-up sabers in 1/6th, or they would have included one with their luke.

after appearance concerns, Again, there is the issue that turned off, the new light-up sabers will not look good when posed with figures that have the old sabers. They need to fit in, and look like they belong together.

Save the light-up effects for statues.

I was really excited about any SW figure announced and released, but I am happy to report that I've been cured!
Will not be ordering any of the prequel junk. All it took is watching the Plinkett SW reviews. After watching them, hubby and I packed up all our prequel stuff ( All except the Yoda vs Clone PF ), and they are off to ebay.
If you haven't seen any of the reviews mentioned, you OWE it to yourself, only if just for the entertainment value!
Catch them here:
Plinkett's Star Wars Reviews
They are pure gold!
