I don't mind that Sideshow is re-selling their junkie stuff. Get more people hooked; maybe it will up the interest rather than "flood the market".

The majority of this stuff is as worthless as most other "toys and collectibles".

It's just sad what could have been. In an alternate universe, Sideshow sold me an ANH Tarkin, General Veers, Lando Skiff, Admiral Ackbar and Hoth Rebel Soldier for $160-180 each. In this universe, it's a basic Luke for $270 and old stuff at higher prices.

One other point is that when you buy a limited edition, collectible, whatever you also factor that part of the high cost is that there are a smaller number being made. Hasbro can release 12" figures and sell them for $20 or $30 because they make 10s of thousands of them. Sideshow makes 2,000 to 5,000 and charge $200, but that's okay as we know smaller ES and higher quality equals a higher price. But when you later double that ES it is affecting the value that the original and new item have. Just like if someone offers a run of custom head sculpts... Only 25 being made and then charge $100 for each head. But if later on they feel bad for those that missed out and people are paying $200 to get one off eBey, they still shouldn't release 25, or 50 more to counterbalance that.

All of your post is good, but this is essentially the crux of the issue. IG-88 was far more expensive at the time than other figures because he was a unique body type that wouldn't be re-used, so we understood the higher price. Now that it is re-used, we see that that higher price was not justified.

I have the same issue with the Yunsil Indiana Jones set. There was never any promise up front that it would be a one and done thing, but I thought that was just understood. There was such a hustle to get payments in, it certainly felt like a "If you don't get in now, you won't get one" . . . I was pretty disappointed to see that re-offered.

At the end of the day though, these re-issues doesn't affect me. I sold these last of my SSC figures last year, and have no intentions of picking up any more.

I think we've learned something here today, it doesn't matter what race you are, what gender you are, what your sexuality is, how tall you are, or if your atheist, at the end of the day we all different and some collectors care when a limited piece is reissued and others don't.
And we all must respect each others beliefs.

That approach is kinda essential if you have "TOO BAD LIFE CAN'T BE LIKE A ****O MOVIE" in your sig.:lol

I want a damn 1963 chevy split window corvette and a UCS lego milennium falcon and I want them at or near retail price. Too bad for me I missed out on both of them and now I refuse to pay the marked up price. I guess I'll just cry myself to sleep.

I just hope this new version is also limited.

Hilariously enough the original e web had a "limited edition" of 2000 and the preorder reissue is also a "limited edition" of 2000. So I wonder what "limited edition" means to Sideshow Collectibles?

haha, my dad had that car for years - I could have hooked you up for a smidge above retail.

Awesome, did he make a lot of money on the sale? Guessing he did if he sold it recently, they aren't very easy to find.

Maybe five years ago, don't know what he made - he's pretty cagey.:lol

It took a long time to find, I know that. But he really knows cars.

I think 're-releases' of characters are good as it sometimes doesn't make sense to collect a line at all if you can't get certain characters that you missed out on. BUT I think major upgrades are a must. The Fett rerelease was plain lazy - so many things they could have improved - Boosk seems to make sense with the new sculpt.

As a business standpoint though... why would you want to keep rereleasing figures? A few years ago, and when SSC star wars figures were $65-$90 it was an event when one went up for pre order... you knew if you werent at the computer at the time it was going up, you might miss out.. it generated buzz and had them selling out figures most times. Then the prices rised, and this crap started... now what is the rush to get in on something? You know it will be around for PO for awhile.. and if you miss out, most likely they will release it again in a couple years. Awful.

Whomever is in charge of marketing at SSC needs to read this thread... turn in their resignation...and smack themselves in the face 100 times.

I wasn't in the game back then. I do understand the fun and the sport in those kind of releases, but for me personally I think it would be quite awful and I do appreciate having some more time deciding if I wanna invest in a figure. :)

Nearly have already but not due to this.. solely on quality of final product and cost of said product.

I no longer pre-order anything SSC and have started to order HT from places without NRD and cheaper shipping.

I will let you know when they offer something I am actually interested in how hard the addict/collector in me wants to hit the order button.
