Have to agree... the fact that the neck actually retracts is pretty impressive. I just hope these aren't a jumble of loose joints or super fragile

Dharper posted some pics over in the Grievous thread and there is now the red Geonosis battle droids as well as Security droids to add to the regular Infantry droids. Lot of droid variants coming our way!

Yeah there's two commanders there! For some reason they have infantry backpacks though, OOM-9 doesnt have that, maybe they just didnt have the different antenna piece ready for him in time. I'm sure they'll correct it, it's probably just for the con.

Here's what I mean:

So far from the pics Dharper has posted the droid variations are:

Infantry Battle Droid (no markings)
Geonosis Infantry Droid (red earth colour)
Security Droid (red markings, no backpack)
Pilot Droid (blue markings, no backpack)
Commander Droid (yellow markings, binoculars)

Of course the STAP is there as well. It will be interesting to see how these variations are packaged. Will they be in doubles like the Infantry droids, single figures, or maybe mixed doubles like a Pilot and Security droid, who knows. Can't wait to see more.

I'd say that's probably a good move. It would be less confusing for people I think, and I'm also not sure how many people would care about an entire new thread for something like the Security Droid.

Believe it or not there's actually 5 versions so far. I have no idea how they're going to pace releases though.

Nice they include TWO figs. But I've never really liked the Battle Droids, nor their design. Especially not the comedy. Gonna pass, but it's a great price for two entire figures.

Might pick up ONE if someone wants to split a set. But then again, I just saw the 'variant' angle, so maybe I'll wait and see what 'colors' there are to choose from.

I may break down and buy a non-exclusive set. If so, I'd be willing to split that set as I really just want 1 figure from it. I'll let you know when I figure it out...

And that's not counting the THREE variants of the Infantry BD alone (THX-1138 and two generic codes). Damn.

IMO OOM9 looks the least interesting to me, even though he's a specific character. I love the ones with the colored shoulders. If I have to skip any specific ones it will be the geonosis guys.

I see all the Geonosis BD's have heads. That's a big no-no Sideshow. Reusing Kit Fisto's exclusive accessory like that.

Now i get why you get two for the price of one. Let's hope they will space the releases out a little as i can't see any variant i'd be ready to pass right now.
