While I agree that Mace does not require a full repaint, I think DA did a real nice job with him. I actually think his eye re-paint is the best part of this custom. This Mace looks like one bad mutha f......
I'm not sure what you mean by the dark spots on the side of his head Sith Lord - I don't see what you mean.

Well, I respect your opinion SL... But sadly with all of my figures currently repainted I am in the same situation as Mikey, I have to paint them all.

But really, I like him a lot. The sides of the head are not as dark as in the pics, it's mostly the shadows giving that effect. And I like the eyes a LOT better, much more intense than prior. Just my opinion anyway.... :lol

I meant the dark paint wash on the head. The side of the head is a little spotty (pore-like), and that's what stuck in my head when I was typing.

Well I'm glad you didn't take it personally, Josh. :)

I'm sure it does look better in person because that seems to be the standard for Sideshow figures. No matter who does what to them, they are not the most photogenic things unless you have top-of-the-line equipment and/or spend a lot of time retouching the pics.

At the end of the day, all that really matters is whether or not you like the repaint (and if other collectors give you more $$$ to do theirs too...LOL!!!)

Thanks again SL.... and it's always nice to hear the other side of the spectrum on my repaints. :D

And thanks as well GB.... I really like him now on the shelf, much more to my liking. Now if I can only get a little 1/6th Geri Curl wig!! :lol

Awesome work, Josh! Your eyes are so clena nad flawless! Lots of life in them. Is this your first black paint job? I'm considering finally sitting down and repainting everyone's hands. What do you think? Is it worht the effort? I mean, that's two pairs of hands per figure!!

Thanks Mikey! No, this is the second African-American skin tone I've done... First was Apone a while back... I really think his eyes turned out very nice, I kept going over it until I had that "Jackson stare" I wanted..:lol

Yeah, the hands are a pain IMO.... I just do a little drybrushing on them with my skin tone shades and leave it at that... It can get a little tedious.

Excellent work DA. I originally wasn't a fan of the sculpt as I thought the eyes did not look intense enough for Samuel L Jackson but it was obviously the production paintjob and not a bad sculpt as I originally thought.

Great job Josh. I think the sculpt limits what can be achieved with paint. Andy's the man but while great paints apps reveal Hayden in his Anakin sculpt and Ewan in Obi-Wan I haven't really seen a Mace pic that made me say "Samuel L. Jackson..."

Your repaint still does a great job of making him look more "real".

I saw this review of Mace over at OneSixthWarriors and thought you guys might get a kick out of it. Surprisingly informative... and a bit creepy :monkey1

I think you should just do Mace. His palms should be lighter than the rest of his hands. Other than that, I think the rest are painted just fine.

Usually I can get through 9-12 frames in a couple of hours, the longest part is taking the photographs, matching the lighting is better with the photo, then basically cutting around the figure and superimposing it onto the film still.
