Absoloute madness is all I can say.

Gun laws don't make a difference over here or there, your still gunna have a way of getting hold of a weapon if your determined.

I don't care about this guys motives he was wrong in the head and probabley wanted to make a point or be remembered.

The tragic thing is he has made an impact on many lives and did'nt have the bottle to take his own life.

Gutless retard.

as I have stated before, I do not currently own any guns. That will probably change in the near future. As for the cars, well there are far more deaths due to cars then due to guns in this country, so something that dangerous obviously needs to be taken off the street. I don't know the stats on toaster deaths though :cuckoo:

I think we'd all be scared silly if those stats ever saw the light of day. :horror

We can all agree that this was a senseless tragedy and that it'll definitely cause heated debate on an issue where both sides can frame valid points. There's no easy answer.

Read my post again carefully-- I said have a gun in your home if it makes you feel safer, but not a semi-automatic that can fire 60+ rounds in a minute. Are you really under the belief that massive hordes are coming to get you?
There are videos online of Korean shop owners defending their stores and families during the LA riots. Anytime you have a natural disaster there will be crime. During the power outage in DC and Va. things were relatively calm during it. Stretch that time out another week or more and you will see more and more crime. Social breakdown is only a natural disaster or terorristic act away. Point is, in a time of societal breakdown it would be better to have a semi-automatic than a single shot bolt action. You choose to ignore it or think it's a bunch of hogwash that's your prerogative. I choose to be prepared.

Best of luck then when armageddon happens. :wave

I can agree with most of your points, except for the other side having "valid" points :nana:

Just kidding.

I was robbed in my home, in my bedroom in fact, with a gun to my head. It took me a few years to feel comfortable in my house again and at no point did I think, hey I need to arm myself. Even if I had a gun at the time, the way it happened would have allowed me no time to be ready for it or to have gotten to a weapon.

Did you get any help with that to get things in perspective?

I was home when 5 guys (teenagers thinking they had an easy victim as my mothers house at the time looked run down and dishelved) broke the door in.
Anyway I was asleep but clothed and woke instantly thinking a car had crashed into the house.
I was'nt armed with anything but pure anger and as I ran towards them and for want of a better word screamed so lould, they _____ themselves literally falling over themselves to get out:lol.
Now if they had of meant buisness or been armed it might have turned very differently I know.

It affected me badly afterwards and still to this day I am very security concerend to the point of obsessive.
Not sure of being armed is the best defence but I keep weapons close to hand just in case.
I think it right for you to be able to protect your home and if someone gets hurt breaking in, as long as it isn't me, then they deserve what they get.

No not everyone, the idiots who kill innocent people because there was a black kid in a hoodie in a white neighborhood. The ones who think having a gun makes them more powerful then everyone else, and theirs more of those then normal people who just pack a piece when they goto the movies. I don't know any normal people who bring a gun to the bar with them. The if you don't like it you should move arguement is as dumb as it gets. My father and uncle both own several weapons, they have never taken them with them anywhere except a range and keep them for home defense.
So if someone was beating you and you were in fear for your life you wouldn't defend yourself? The gun owners who think they are bad ass because they carry a gun are a minority. Most lawful gun owners are respectful people who look to stay out of trouble becausewe know that firearm ownership is a great responsibility.

These gun discussions are one of many reasons why I think that opening in the first episode the newsroom is dead on.

:goodpost::goodpost:

Exactly. Great speech.

Yeah, it is and sad thing is its true. I love my country but we're lost and value things that make you shake your head.

When these discussions come I think some folks didn't pay attention in civics class. The effort alone to "actually" take away guns would not be worth it.

:lol Love that picture. Just classic.

I think Larry the Cable Guy said it best- "Saying guns kill people is like blaming misspelled words on my pencil."

In this country, I'm surprised they don't use these instances to push gun ownership. That way they can enforce a gun tax. For crying out loud they tax the only sure thing to happen to everyone- death. Yep, you have to pay a tax to die.

I don't live my life in fear-- I live in Canada where guns are not viewed as a god-given right and the boogeyman isn't out to get me. Violence happens here too-- but guns are primarily viewed as being used for hunting and home defense.

I'm glad that you live your life without fear with a gun. I live my life without fear without a gun. I think fundamentally it comes down to your country being founded by guns while mine was founded through dialogue. It's sad that some only feel safe with guns. There is absolutely no reason why a guy can acquire the weapons and ammunitions that he did so easily. Cars killing people is a flawed argument. Toasters also kill people who like their toast in the bathtub-- I don't know too many toasters though that dispense 60 pieces of toast per minute.

I'm going with my son today without a single ounce of fear while our US counterparts seem to be paranoid about it now. Hum, which one would I rather, let me think... Bottom line is that this ****** had access to weapons freely. If it was like here in Canada, it would of been very difficult to pull off a stunt like this. It has happened, but it's a very rare occurence. I read every single page of this thread and the arguments for guns is laughable at best. One person even said that it's to protect against an invasion or terrorists at some point, or something to that effect. Helped you a lot during 9/11 didn't it. The US is living in the dark ages when it comes to this gun BS. This theory that he could of had guns elsewhere is also laughable. Not everyone knows a gun runner on the black market to get a gun (assuming guns were restricted like here). High level criminals would probably get access to some, but some ****** like that probably wouldn't have. The US needs to get a clue on this gun issue. Now let the gun apologists flame me, I don't care, I'm safe in my country while you guys live in fear of something as trivial as going to a movie. My heart goes out to the victim's families.

Isn't there a city or town in Kentucky that gun ownership is mandatory? I believe it's known to be one of the safest areas in the country. I believe it was on 20/20.

You act like this happens every day in the US. It's still a rare occurrence here as well. If someone wants to do this in Canada I'm sure they will. You have weird gay porn stars killing their partners and taping themselves beating off with body parts. You also have people playing samurai on buses. You have the same amount of maniacs that we do. A maniac is a maniac. Period.

You want to know the difference between Canada and the US in these public shootings? The US media gives these pricks the attention they crave.

The US wasn't founded on guns. It's independence was fought and won by it's citizens. Big difference. That's why we have an elected leader and not a queen on the other side of the world. That's why we're not a dual language country.

And honestly, would Canadians want any other country in the world as a buffer between them and the rest of the world?

Im starting to wonder if the gunman was just a crazy avengers fan that didn't wanted batman to pass avengers at the box office or something,
I mean, how serious those fights get between nolan nerds and avengers nerds, I wouldnt be surprised if some avengers nerds felt that way

love it

it would seem that not all Canadians agree with you

Thank you for stopping me from going off on that kind of stupid post. I have my tickets for the 2:30 showing, and I"m not afraid. I'm going to see it just the same as I would any other movie.
