It's so funny seeing my own colorized photo work coming back at me after all these years! I did that color job there Greg! (That was a BW shot) THAT is the scale! No issues there. That's Joe Alves the shark's designer, and he is not that small. Plus, the shark is slightly in foreground making him look larger. If he had come around to this side of the shark, you would see the scale better.

I too am not for any roll poses Pjam. I like the one you and Greg posted, the one under Brody on the mast, also.

Something with the mouth wide is starting to interest me. That way, we get the vertical head, but the mouth is part of the base. And it's dramatic. Can be from so many shots. I am thinking wide mouth, up head, narrow in the water, DRAMA. That's more the paint job I want also, darker on top, bloodier, more visceral. What say you guys?

I think we need to investigate casting materials other than resin. I've heard of casting with foam, but I don't know much about it. Time to start researching.

Oh, I didn't buy the JAWS maquette. I do have some self-control, you know...

What!?!?!? YOU!?!?! :lol
Yeah, sure!
I did get it, But it needs work. I do like it though. As a base.

I'm all for this! Just wanted to get the conversation rolling and some serious thought into just what we will see. I think the above shot is much like the 'breaching Bruce' when Quint is about to shoot it from the stern of the Orca so it works for me. This pic also gives you a pretty good idea of scale.

It's a classic pose...and can almost look like the poster from straight on.

I also agree with Gruff that it would be a good idea to investigate a lighter material than resin. Even hollowed, resin at that size is gonna run the risk of breaking, especially when shipping. Perhaps Trev has a suggestion on this.

I sense a "consense us". :D

Seriously, this is the Classic Iconography seared into my mind. It is feral, dramatic and what "Jaws" is all about IMO. Those Jaws are wide open, better to eat you with... hehe

That sets it then, That is the pose! No arguments from me!

Let me work on some scale things, and some drawings and all. Plus, I have to start looking into materials like has been discussed. We'll solve that, I just want my ideas down pat first.

Consense us. You kill me, Paul!:lol

I'm very happy you are more comfortable with this now, Les. :D

Take your time, a year if you have to, okay maybe next Spring... this is a big project, we all know, and we are just thrilled you are taking it on... as the "end all" of this amazing Landmark collaboration.

Again, as many have expressed, we should have plenty of time to explore casting options.

Good, looks like the basic pose then has been agreed on. Excellent.

Definitely the best pose, minimal head area yet still will gaping maw!

This pose also allows for some FUN -- like putting Quint waist-deep into the mouth! Or like the picture, Hooper's air tank!

Or maybe the Estuary victim...

or better yet, little Alex Kintner and his yellow raft!!! :)

This project has not been forgotten!!! :rock

:D

Wanted to be the first nudge.

Been thinking about this, as you know Les. Don't want it to be a bear of a project, so may I suggest minimizing the head to just what's key: as long as it has an open mouth -- doesn't even need to be gapping -- and we can see the eyes, that's good for me. Maybe he'd be too big if you built him up all the way to the gill.

Just the head works for so many poses: Quint shooting him in the jaw as he breaches, Quint kicking to keep from being eaten, Brody chumming, Brody on the mast over him, the shark peeking up at Hooper and Quint when they're pulling in the rope... so many 'Bruce head' moments could be recreated.

Let me make this point perfectly clear....
When I do get this one going, it is not limited to my worries about how to sculpt it, nor even how to cast it up...it is to not be limited at all in obtaining the Bruce bust we all want. SO, that being said, STOP FRETTING about how I do this! It will be done!

Put another way...
We have just received some of the most incredibly badass headsculpts, in the history of 1/6 collecting. We are some lucky ba$tards! LUCKY! And to top that off, cap it, COMPLETE it, we need equally nice Bruce busts. Not hack work, not compromised sculpts, not something made to be CHEAP and AFFORDABLE, just cool ass sculpts of our boy, BRUCE, busting his multi-toothed maw up and into our recently acquired Jaws boy's faces!

Firstly, it must be true 1/6 scale.

Secondly, it must be shelf worthy in size, posability, and compatibility with our figures, standing, chaired, Orca'd or whatever.

Thirdly, It must be a well sculpted and painted, and visually as accurate as our Trevor headsculpts, so as not to lower the set in any way possible

And of course, Fourthly, It must kick all the ass in the room!
Folks must say, DAMN! CHECK THAT OUT! When they see it. That is what happens now, with the Three, so it must occur simultaneously with the busts.

What will be taken into account is this:
It will take time. I need to warm up. I want to finish my SS Maquette rework, and let that lead me into a fresh sculpt to come later. Get that repair out of my system, and let me think what to do.
It will cost some money. I will need to sculpt it, render it in parts, make teeth that match those in Bruce, which I can due to some nice images I have, and then I must be able to mold it all.

To save costs, it can be a kit, offered only to US, not outside anywhere. It must be under the same safety and security guidelines as our bond with Trevor. NO OUTSIDE SALES or showing of it anywhere! I am not prepared to deal with that at all. I just want to compliment OUR Jaws sets, and that is all.
So, it may be a kit, that guys like Mikey and Josh and others can build and paint themselves. It will also be a partially built kit, unpainted, and it will be offered of course as a full-out built and painted bust. Again, I will make mine, paint it, and show it here. It will all take time.

To save us all unneeded costs, I will eat a lot of that myself, as long as you guys can help me get the materals, and at least pay SOME towards the head being built and/or painted if that is how it is finished. But, I know, among us, I will never recoup the true cost, any more than Trevor has recouped what he has done for us. We both love doing this, so for this group, it is the fun of the project that feeds it.

That means, it will be pretty cheap considering. Still, I will need to realize true costs and find out what to do. Also means learning to mold and cast this thing, and that may mean getting Josh to come up and we both do it all in one weekend. Something like that.
But, IT CAN BE DONE! No outside casters! I don't trust anyone with this! Not this time. Not anymore.

So, patience, and desire are our friends here. IT WILL GET DONE! It must. LOOK AT THESE FIGURES! It is obvious!

Hang in there, and be supportive, and this will go on and we will finish our dream sets.

More as I know it. :rock

I have total faith in you, Les! You have amazing passion, talent, and standards. You excel at the work you do, and I know your love for this movie and our project is going to carry us all through. I'd be glad to help shoulder the cost of the R&D along with the rest of our Orca crew.
