A new HT line based on real people?

A 1/6 hot toys Jackie Chan would rule. :monkey5

I think this maybe a action movie star thing. people like will smith, jackie chan and Steven Seagal. people who look the same in all films apart from the outfits.

Historical figures would be interesting, depending on who they did. Many military/war based figures have already been done or are being done, so if they focused on something different, it could be cool.

I have no interest whatsoever in any sports figures, except a Dale Earnhardt Sr. figure.

(Why limit the possibilities to politicians, military, musicians and athletes?)

Dear Hot Toys,

A Joseph "John" Merrick (aka 'The Elephant Man') figure, please.

:rock :rock :rock :rock

It'll definitely be HISTORICAL people...which means a lot of people that are already dead.

There would be a lot of royalty fees and such going out for likeness uses if they went after people who were still alive.

Just in case you didn't know Dragon made a pretty decent one a few years back, and you can get him pretty easily for around $20.

Alfrex has already made three Mifune characters. The first was from Shichinin no Samurai (the Seven Samurai), the second was from Yojimbo, the third (with much better likeness) from Shinsen-gumi. It'd be interesting to see what HT would do with other world-famous Asian movie stars.

I think Dragon actually made two different Jackie Chans. The one in the pic, and an exclusive, if I remember correctly. I wished they'd made one with a more serious expression, though. If they had, I'd have bought one.

If I were betting, I'd bet music. That's the safest money.

Sports is very likely though too, as there isn't anyone doing them right now. We've gotten a few decent sixth scale sports figures in the past, but nothing of the quality Hot Toys could do. Unfortunately though, the two sports that would be the most interesting to me visually are football and hockey, because of the much more complex uniforms. Instead we'd probably get soccer and baseball...snooze.

I'd say all the other guesses I'm reading here are mighty unlikely. They said they'd be instantly recognizable - that leaves out most historic characters outside of a handful, and they are REAL people, so actors as any sort of character is out. I'd love some of those guys too, but it seems pretty unlikely based on their description.

.

Come on Michael. (I don't think I've ever disagreed with you before) but there is an entire world outside of the US of A that loves soccer and wouldn't know a superbowl from a soup bowl!!!
Having said that I don't think I'd want a 12"Beckham either. We'll leave Victoria to dream about that.

i am being facetious by the way, I know what you mean about the uniforms and all my son's 12" soccer players (Revell kickomatic???) have horrid knee joints showing etc.

While famous sports figures would be no doubt be popular with many collectors, there are far too many differences in likes and dislikes to suit the vast majority of collectors. The football (soccer) vs football (NFL) issue illustrates the point. Most European and countries outside of North America couldn't give a hoot about major Canadian or American sports personalities, and vice versa. Therefore, it seems unlikely to me that HT is planning a line of famous sports personalities.

Musicians is much more likely, but even in that field there are differences in tastes that could make it difficult to satisfy the vast majority. I would guess that movie personalities would be the most likely choice due to there being a much broader international audience for films. They seem to be doing quite well with the Movie Masterpiece Series so far and their choices of characters have been well received by collectors everywhere. They've already done a number of figures with Sly Stallone's likeness, so maybe that's the direction they're planning to go... guess we'll know the answer in a couple of weeks.

Mudshark, Dragon made 2 Chan's. The Dragon Lord one pictured and Jackie Chan the actor in a black and yellow warm-up type outfit. The actor one had shorter hair more like his Police Story and Rush Hour films.
Thamesvalidude, you have access to those Kick-o-matic figures?? Any chance there's a first issue Michael Ballack head rolling around unused somewhere? Or that one can be found on clearance?

If they did famous actors, I would love for them to do a present day Bruce Willis so I could customize a great Live Free or Die Hard McClain.

I'll certainly look ironman. My son has mainly man utd figures.

If you're looking for Willis head sculpts, here are a couple that might interest you. This is B.W. from "Tears of the Sun", but he ought to work nicely for a Die Hard custom. Check it out...

Pretty good likeness if you ask me, and the price is certainly right. I have a couple of these on order now. Never hurts to have a couple of spare Willis noggins on hand... :D

Thanks for the links those are quite impressive. I may consider that route, but that also means getting a body and everything where a figure from HT might have most of the package already. I'd love to see Willis with HT quality anyway, the skin texture and their newer paint apps would be quite stunning and I think a more neutral expression like they use would better suit McClane, he was more verbally expressive than facially.

In this new line, all characters are real persons who are very famous and rememberable. We believe that you could recognize them from the first sight.

I wonder whether this figure line was inspired by the recent output from How2Works, which has included Che Guevara and Vladimir Lenin. The English version of the HT newsletter (above) is pretty rough. I bet these will be iconic historical figures. Instantly recognizable -- I'm sure they could sell out a Princess Diana overnight. Maybe not to anyone on this board, but to a world market. Personally, I would flip for a Churchill figure. Or a Muhammad Ali that really had his face and physique. I'll bet David Beckham and Pele would both sell very well. Sports, war leaders, spiritual leaders, musicians, it seems like a wide open field to me. The elephant man would be very cool, and his image is surely in the public domain.
