What are your specs Solidus?

Just realised the recomended GPU is a GTX660 which is pretty high, I have the EVGA GTX680 Superclocked version but I'm thinking of getting the Gigabyte GTX980 G1.

I have a GTX 780, 8 GB of RAM, Windows 7 SP1, so the game should run without any problems. It's certainly not unplayable by any means, but the stuttering does get a bit annoying after a while.

I'm currently playing this at 60fps with V-Sync enabled, and all of the settings maxed-out on PC. But, there are frequent frame dips, and stuttering. Has anyone else experienced that?

I have not.... it could be any number of things. I really need more information to figure out whats causing it. :wink1:

Have you tried with V-sync off? I never use it myself. Or try disabling your antivirus to see if that helps. I havn't played it yet, I'll report back when I have. Might just need a good patch.

On an initial test, I got around 120 fps with V-sync off, but there was screen tearing so I enabled it. But, like you suggested, I'll try turning it off and see if that helps.

I have Zone Alarm Extreme Security running in the background, but it runs pretty passively and I've never seen it cause conflicts with games or other programs for that matter.

I'm lucky, I have never really noticed screen tearing, my monitor is 144Hz so I try to make the most of it, I've just never got on with V-sync myself. Are you using an HDD or SSD? If it is the former you could try defragging it. I can't say my antiviruses ever interfere from what I can tell either although I often turn Avast off if I need the highest frames possible. I'll hopefully get around to starting this in a little bit. My PC has run everything I have thrown at it so far so if it stutters, it's probably the game.

I'm sure you have, but just to check, have you got the latest driver from Nvidea? I'm on 344.11 which specifically states improvements for Alien Isolation.

Whenever I see someone using an Antivirus program, I always say, why not Microsoft Security Essentials(assuming that person is using a Windows OS), its perfect, non intrusive, good protection and free
I can't see why Windows users go for other expensive Antivirus programs that are too demanding or intrusive on the system

anyway rant over :rotfl

@Solidus: are you running this game from an SSD or HDD?

Good advice, my first thought was hard drive access too, and yes the latest Nvidia drivers will likely help:hi5:

Well, I'm using a HDD for all of my Steam games, and a 128 GB SSD for Windows. A SSD will help with load times, but what it will not help with, is improving your frame-rates.

But, I've got the latest drivers too, my system's all defragged, so I'm still at a loss for what's going on. I think I'll rescan my HDD for spyware.

Well, I've been using ZoneAlarm since 2001, and never had any real problems with it. The firewall was a bit cantankerous with the older releases, but it works very passively in the background.

But, personally, I'd never trust Microsoft with my Internet security :lol. I remember how awful Windows firewall was, and MSE hasn't gotten good reviews from independent testing for the past several years.

Here's a good article on it:

Why You Should Replace Microsoft Security Essentials With A Proper Antivirus

Alien: Isolation - Review Discussion - IGN Video

Polarizing? These idiots at IGN are pathetic. Most critics and players are praising the game but Ryan McCaffrey feels the need to get his work pals to jump in and help him try and justify his review score of 5.9. Funny thing is, you can tell that the other 3 like the game and have been dragged in. Ryan also states that he is the 'Preview Guy' not the ' reviewer guy'. I'd stick to doing previews if i was him. Video is 16 minutes long and a bit sad really.

If we are talking about realism and immersion then the AI has to be this way. Like on real life, there's only so many times you'd be able to hide from it. I'm near the end of the game and I still get nervous 20 hours in when it approaches. Isn't that what you want from a horror experience?

:goodpost: :exactly:

IGN obviously felt the need to justify their review...

Their stupidity has no end :lol I won't waste my time with that...

After playing this game for around 5 hours I would really like to have a maquette or at least a figure of the alien from alien isolation. Whose with me?

I hope sideshow or other company makes one because I really like it's animalistic design of the giger alien.

Since HT is making Ripley, they have to remake big chap... they HAVE TO

That is probably wise, instead of approaching it from a different point of view and questioning whether they got the review right or not given customer feedback is pretty positive, he simply got three of his mates to back him up and they all agreed happily ever after. I'm all for opinions and freedom of speech, but they could at least have had one guy on their panel that questioned their opinions and appreciated the direction Isolation went.

So Ryan's doubling down on his bad review instead of admitting that maybe he shouldn't have played it on HARD if he found it to be so frustrating?

Played the game for 4 hours last night; I must be really slow because I only made it to the hospital - your first real encounter with the alien (although surprisingly that wasn't the first time the alien killed me!). I need to practice holding my breath in lockers because I wasn't prepared to do that and he yanked me right the hell out of there :lol

Worth a try, I only asked before suggesting a defrag. I am the same, I have a 240gb SSD for my OS and DCS: World, it has Origin on also but I'm going to move that now my library is growing. Then I have a secondary 1TB HDD for Steam and everything else. Do you have a repair install option for Alien Isolation? That might be worth trying also. You may also want to check your temps while gaming just in case it is getting too hot, it is possible something might be on the fritz.

Well, it seems I saved 14 minutes of my time :lol

but they could at least have had one guy on their panel that questioned their opinions and appreciated the direction Isolation went.

That is exactly what they should have done :slap you'd think they realise something is off considering no one agrees with them...

Why do people get upset about reviews? One person's opinion is all they are. People act like they don't care about them, but that's obviously not true. This happens with every game that scores well. One site or two scores it low and gets all this heat for it. I don't get it. Who cares?

Well I guess you have to stick with what works. It really depends on the user with Anti-virus, and MSE suits my PC usage style perfectly.

I just encountered the Alien for the first time(through a cutscene) very scary so far with 7.1 headphones in a pitch dark room on my own :rotfl
What makes it extra scary is not hearing anything around you, all I can hear are the atmospherics of the game

I did a little girly squeal when I saw it in the distance. My wife just looked at me and shook her head. :lol
