Yes, there is. And IGN called it being "mediocre". It was too scary for their reviewer, and he/she (presumably after changing his/her undergarments) decided to claim the game was not good.

Well, the game is definitely going for fear and succeeds in that department with flying colors. This game in VR is possibly too intense, but with breaks I think it'll be ok.

Just a quick screenie showing how bad my hiding skills are. :lol

Where are you hiding at that moment?

I haven't followed the thread much recently, since I was planning on playing this soon and didn't want to read much, so my issue may have already been mentioned.

I got my PS4 two days ago, and got my game today.

One thing that has jumped out at me (no pun intended) though my play so far - do the pre-rendered scenes seem jerky to others? It's got this stuttery aspect, which I wouldn't have expected from this gen.

Not stuttery like your PC is just slightly too old to play a game, just... unnatural.

Is it frame-rate dips? The consoles are locked at 30fps for this game, and the frame-rates might reduce slightly, if more processing power is needed to render specific scenes. It would be enough for your eyes to notice.

Wouldn't frame rate dips be more of an issue with in-game action, as opposed to the pre-rendered scenes? Since the developers know exactly what's happening, processing power-wise, during pre-rendered scenes, but not in-game.

(that's a lot of hyphens and commas!)

I'm only experiencing it during the pre-rendered. So far, no issues during gameplay. Except I'm only to the part where you meet (to avoid the spoiler tag) the first person you meet on Sevastopol.

The issue I'm seeing is like, every hundredth frame is skipped. Not that precisely, but in terms of giving it a visual.

I get the cut scene lag too, not every cut scene, some are fine others very jerky.

I'm on the PC, these are the in game benchmark stats:

Must be a game problem rather than specs.

Just experienced some cutscene lag, myself, right at the part where Axel (...). My PC specs should handle this easily, so I think it's probably the game, too. I also had FRAPS enabled and it showed a constant 60 FPS (v-sync) where the slowdowns occurred. Maybe the cutscenes were just rendered that way... :dunno.

:lol I'd never recommend the dk2 to anyone as it's still pretty rough around the edges and I'm a huge vr guy, so I can look past those things. You might be disappointed. The consumer Rift is going to blow minds and be much more polished. You might want to wait. Then again, if you do get a Rift now, you might love it as much as I do...who knows! Yeah, your 780 is very capable of handling current VR demands. Even with all of it's flaws, Alien in VR is an incredible experience, so I can't completely discourage you either. The Rift mode is somewhat hidden in the code and is easy to activate, but because it's not officially supported, updates and improvements are unlikely. But it's so cool! LOL.

Thanks for the info :duff. I guess I'll wait for the consumer version, for the bug fixes, then. It looks like an awesome piece of tech for horror games. I will most certainly have to try it on Isolation and the new Silent Hills game as well :drool.

Yep, had lag on that one too. The cutscene in the coms level is seriously bad.

This is why I'm patiently waiting, have you seen the crescent bay prototype? We're still not quite there, but it seems like a good glimpse as to what the first production rift might be. I do think it will need a pretty high res to work properly however.

About the cutscene lag- maybe adjusting the value of maximum pre-rendered frames would help? It did helped me on some games that shouldn't be lagging.

Then "unnatural" is the wrong word, because I can't fathom what I'm seeing being any form of foreshadowing or story-related stylistic choice.

That bad, eh? Hmmn... Hopefully they patch it, then. But the quality of the game itself is really impressive. Enjoy!

I mean, it's not a huge deal. It's a minor stutter - but for my first game of this gen, it was an uninspiring first impression.

I don't think I'm too far in, in the grand scheme of things - I just
made contact with Samuels from the ship

I've only had a couple of interactions with the Alien - one was apparently because I was making too much noise while waiting for the first tram.

But so far, I'm loving the hell out of the game. I feel like **** the entire time, which is what I was hoping would happen. :lol

Like I mentioned, this was my first PS4 game, and I didn't look into system specs or features or whatever. I like both the 360 and PS3 (though I greatly prefer the 360), but the PS4 had the games I wanted. Given my ignorance of the system, I didn't know exactly what the controller could do.

So the scenario went - I had been tense as hell for about ninety minutes, during my game. Then, I pick up the motion sensor.

Me: "AAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAHHHHHH WHAT IN THE HOLY HELL IS HAPPENING IN MY HANDS???"

It's funny, given how good this game looks, that maybe the best visual aspect is how well they replicate the original Alien's look, when it comes to looking old and new at the same time. The little staticy noise when you turn on the motion sensor is fantastic.

And when I started the game up for the first time last night, my immediate thought was, "This 20th Century Fox intro is the best game developer intro ever". Then with all the little VHS-tracking stuff and the analog-esque noise and visual errors, before I even started a game, my mood was already nervous and on edge.
