That's been my issue with playing it. For most games, I don't like to have a quickie 30 minute session, or a light 60 minute-er, but I can make do.

But for this game, if I don't have at least a couple hours free, I don't bother. It would just seem... wrong.

That's a compliment!

Oh, absolutely.

This has been a genuinely bizarre gaming experience for me so far. Without looking at spoilers, etc, I think I'm a little more than halfway in, maybe two-thirds in:

I just finished the part with the derelict, and played with the flamethrower for a few minutes

And so far, I'm confused as to how much I actually like the game. What I mean by that is, there are almost no points where I'm having fun. I feel like absolute **** the entire time - my brief moments of joy at marveling at the ships' detail are cut short by the massive amounts of stress I'm under.

Basically, I have the "ugh ugh ugh" pit of my stomach grossness that I felt with much of Doom 3. Except with that game, you at least had the carnal release of killing enemies. And the action parts broke up the stressful parts. I'm not killing humans on this playthrough, so there's going to be not one kill on my end. The absolute sense of being overpowered and helpless just makes you feel horrible.

So while this ranks near the bottom of games I've played in my lifetime when it comes to "fun", it ranks near the top in terms of gameplay that physically affects me. And that's much harder to find, which is why this game is a rare feat.

I remember reading something about how the Aliens attacks get less and less scary and more annoying..... this is not the case for me, I find I'm the same level of terrified, each time it gets me

Agreed. The Alien did not lose it's effectiveness for me over the course of the game; even going back and replaying parts (or playing Survival mode), it's still tense and scary. The working Joe's on the other hand, I feel overstayed their welcome...

They counter your attacks a lot, and most times I feel like the wrench is my only option... Shotgun runs out quick
I have yet to play Survival mode

Yeah, I'm thinking about uninstalling evil within. I dunno, it just inferior and hokey going against alien isolation.

Dammit, I just returned Alien Isolation because I haven't started the Evil Within yet and don't have time for everything right now.

Just play it. You might like it.

I'm going to start Evil Within this weekend and I figured I would just buy a used copy of Alien:Isolation when I'm ready instead of keeping the one I had. But the feedback in this thread makes me think I should have done that the other way around.

Yeah. And maybe I missed something but...

Once you reach the working Joe's dressed in orange jump suits it seems like all of your weapons become essentially useless against them. EMP mines have no effect. The bolt gun has no effect. It takes at least 2 molotov cocktails or pipebombs per orange-suited Joe. Guns work if you empty all of your rounds into them.

Yeah those guys are shielded, I guess they have to be to work in those areas where you find them

bolt guns do work. aim for the face, the only thing left unprotected by the suit... it's a one shot kill

Bolt gun works, aim for the head.

Has anyone ever tried to bolt the alien with the bolt gun?! I aimed for the head, tried and true shot. Still alive. :lol I just did it for ****s and giggles.

I have not tried..... :lol, I think only fire works, I am paralyzed with fear around that thing though, all I do is hide behind crates and under desks :rotfl

When you get a chance, try it, and really, it's rare thing to be alive and for the alien to be in your clear line of sight.
