MP Megatron, would have to be my most less favourite figure... Those thin legs and how hard it was to stand him. I transformed it once and decided to never to it again... He is now in a box waiting to be sold!

I never got as far as attempting transformation as I was certain something would break. I did try displaying it but got fed up of it falling over and it's now in the same position as yours.

I think MP Megatron should have been non transforming so that a more sturdy, cartoon accurate robot mode was possible and included a detailed, die cast metal version of his gun mode as one of the accessories.

Takara would've have gotten some flak for the lack of an actual transformation but it would likely have been far more impressive looking than the mess they eventually released and wouldn't have had any issues arise over the alt mode resembling a real firearm.

Spanbauer,
In the case of Masterpiece Prime I think he was initially intended as a one off, then by the time Takara decided to go ahead with other characters they'd used their experience with Prime to help develop better techniques for making TF's in that scale and I think if G1 Prime got a new Masterpiece mold today the truck mode would look a lot more realistic.

hey guys. sorry to interupt. i recently received the rocket launcher add on set for the Classics Ultra Magnus figure and was surprised to find a little bag of what appears to be alternate face sculpts. it wasn't listed in the contents of the add on set. i couldn't find any possible way to change these faces with my ultra magnus head which would be the first trailer release from Fans Project from last year. anybody know anything about this?

Hilarious!! What reviewer is he making fun of?

Haha! he is making fun of Dyansis01 or CobraCommanderFTW(he sounds like both lol) and he makes fun of this guy too! lol!.

Buster Prime

The improvements in Buster Prime's blue and grey parts is far more apparent in the pictures 3/4ths of the way down this page. And there are more close-ups of his weapons and details on the second page. I can't say I'm at all disappointed with how he turned out, although it would have been nice if the red was a little richer (it is less pink than the US release, although not drastically different). Here's just a few from the first page:

The face plates are swappable with the original release of City Commander, I did it with mine. The original face is really hard to get out, but once you do, the new ones slide in and out really easily.

Man Buster Prime is a sexy b itch. I can't wait for mine :)

Walked into my nearest Wal-Mart (on this side of the border) yesterday and was surprised to see four MP Skywarps sitting there!!! First time I've found any of the MP Exclusives so I was very happy to grab one to add to the collection. Oh, and they finally had the Leader Optimus/Megatron (and luckily Jetfire) price down to where I was comfortable nabbing them last week at my local US Wal-Mart. $30 a pop is definitely more affordable. In fact, that massive Unicron is now on clearance at TRU for $39-- I almost pulled the trigger on that one as well but stopped not sure where I'd display him (probably in planet mode suspended above the others).

The flames look way better as does the silver but I still think there's something lacking with the mold and I think I'll wait to see if the 3rd movie brings a better Leader Class or a truly definitive Masterpiece version.

Hey im just curious, as i dont think weve ever discussed this in person, or in our emails, but you mention that you have issues with the "mold". I thought you only had probs with the paint (or lack there of) not the actual toy design.
When you visited i thought you said you was quite impressed with the actual toy design. I mean you have to admit its a big improvement over the old leader prime toy.
Still, i have a feeling my repaint will sway you...if only i could finish the fecking thing.

Finally found the Walmart release of the Masterpiece Skywarp.

I have been trying to find out if there are any plans to release the MP Thundercracker in the future or if I have to track down a Takara one.

Anyone heard anything?

I think it's just dragged down by little issues as opposed to anything major eg,

The moving gears behind the truck windows look crappy.

No articulated hands when the original Leader Class had them.

The sword blades look like they might restrict some of the arm articulation when they're folded away and I think they'd be better if they could just pop on & off.

The transformation seems to be more complex than is really necessary........I can't be bothered with anything that requires much messing about with.

Maybe it's a case of me expecting too much from a mass market version of a design that's damn near impossible to recreate well at anything less than Masterpiece level but the overall impression I get is that it's hugely overrated.

I also picked up the WM Skywarp, is there any difference between the Takara and Hasbro.

I'd like to know about Thundercracker too, that's the only one I'm missing.

:naughtyI was just rearanging my transformers cabinet and I got to my yellow universe optimus prime and ultra magnus. That is one of my favorite optimus prime besides the mp. I have never transformed the to omega prime and I've decided to do it now!:naughty

The Hasbro version surpisingly is more G1 accurate as it's got the same wing stripes and yellow eyes as the original toy though it's not got the unique face sculpts of the Takara version as it's a straight repaint of Starscream. The black on the Takara version is also a bit glossier.

The Takara version of Thundercracker is a much deeper blue than the G1 toy so if you want all 3 to match up it might be better waiting to see if Hasbro make one though it may be a while as Grimlock has already been confirmed as the next MP to get a US release.

On the subject of Masterpieces there's been some talk on the TF sites about an interview with somebody from Takara who suggested the next new mold may be something from the 3rd series of the cartoon which in Japan was set in the year 2010.
Could next year see a Masterpiece Rodimus Prime or Galvatron?

Hotrod? I hope so.

Thanks, I was expecting Skywarp to be weathered like Hasbro Starscream. As for more TF pick ups I found both TRU Commemorative 25th Anniversary Percepter and Insecticons. Hasbro is charging high on these considering when Prime and Magnus was released a few years back it cost about the same price.

No problem, glad to help.

In an ultra rare case of the UK getting a decent deal the Wal-Mart Skywarp is available at Argos stores for £39.99 and as I work there I got another 10% off that so I got my first Masterpiece Seeker for considerably less than Starscream goes for as it never got any kind of offical release over here.

And unlike MP Megatron I really like the Seeker mold especially once I discovered the hip kibble can be removed and popped onto the legs so it looks more like the original prototype which was pretty much perfect but for some reason got scrapped.

Hasbro's logic makes me go WTF? on a regular basis but Takara's reasoning behind ditching the original MP Seeker design for something that's less accurate to the source material seems just as bizarre.

Still, Skywarp is very nice and the only minor niggle is that the Decepticon logos on the wings are a bit nondescript as they lack a silver outline but I'll just put a couple of reprolabels over them.
