those who eat meat participate in some form of animal brutality. worse are the dog cat lovers that disgust at some cultures who eat them but these owner eats pork/beef.

You said "all living things" which implies, Animals (humans are STILL just animals), plants, bacteria, and fungi.

Ok, now my opinion: While I would put the life of most humans above that of an animal, anyone that can do those sort of things to an animal is capable of anything. Michael Vick...sure he only tortured dogs..but if he is capable of that, I 100% assure you that it wouldnt take much to push him into harming or killing a human being.

I think we all know he was referring to animals and humans and not fungi or bacteria.

yes, just like anyone who wears Nikes or shops at Wallmart promotes child abuse.

You can kill an animal without being brutal. Same with a human.

yeah but in a culture of convenience where uneducated low paying peeps are hired to do the killing its less likely.

i dont trust the organic stuff either, just some fancy name to drive up prices.

Oh, abattoirs are very efficient and "humane" nowadays. Animals don't feel a thing as they're shuttled through those corridors of death. :)

I don't know about that. The distinction almost becomes arbitrary at a certain point if you start to exclude, say, a butterfly or a fish from other animals. You figure some level of complexity, or similarity to humans at a certain point (mammals, for instance). But then, it isn't "all animals." Is a fly equal to a dog equal to a human? And are all superior to all fungi and plants? Is a 2,000 year old tree worth less than a flea?

I just say, straight up, that humans are special and more valuable than any other form of life. And the further you get from us, the less valuable you become. Just like ranking the importance of planets! So, monkeys > dogs > fish > trees

My coworker saw what I posted and she asked "well what if the dog was Lassie and the kid was Adolph Hitler?" :lol

That depends. You stated this game show was in an alternate universe. Therefore, in that universe, are Lassie and Hitler as they are in this universe or would Lassie be more like say Cujo and Hitler more like Ghandi? Tell your coworker she needs to be more specific when dealing in alternate realities/universes. :nana: :lol

the same thing with NFL I can't patronize a product that not only gives a dog fighter second chance but treats him like some model citizen now because he plays good.

...
I hate abuse of any kind. Any one who abuses another - be it an animal or human should be locked up.

Agreed. Most reasonable post so far

i love these threads

I buy the majority of my meat at local farmer's markets. It's rather is easy to do research on these local farms and how they work and treat their animals. It costs a bit more than what you buy at the grocery store - but you can definitely taste a difference and the animals are raised as humanely as can be.

yeah but if meat is so good for us how come we can't eat it directly raw, causes health problems and stays stuck putrefying the digestive parts longer than vegetables fruits and nuts?

So what do you understand by "valuable"? Because I think the oxygen that trees create or the meat that animals provide are quite valuable. If it wasn't for them the human race would not exist

humans are not any more valuable, they are just the more arrogant species thinking everything else is inferior to their domination. you see any other form of life on earth that has damaged the earth as much as humans?

Agreed. In fact I think our particular dependence on external resources to survive makes us the weakest form of life on this planet

Well I guess if people have been eating meat for centuries then it can't be all that bad.

Not all of us can be healthy on a vegetarian diet. There have been studies done that show some people with certain blood types do better having meat in their diets.

She's right, my girlfriend has issues with iron and has to eat red meat every once in a while becuase her system cannot handle suppliments. She starts shking violently and getting sick when her iron is low, has a burger and is better. She's not a huge fan of red meat but she has to have it ever so often.

Killing an animal for any reason other than for food, in self defence, or out of mercy/compassion is utterly contemptible, fullstop. Those who enjoy the act of killing itself, or worse, torturing and then killing, are sick ___ks and I think the law is far too lenient on such people.
