It's beyond ridiculous that video chat is limited to iPhone 4 users. I'm guessing a couple 3rd party developers will be working on alternative video chat applications. The only question is: will Apple allow them to release them. I'm guessing "no" :banghead

:gah:
I found online that the new motorola droid is going to have twice the processor speed. :slap

I need to stay off the internet until the 24th. :lecture:rotfl

I don't know anything about the motorola droid, but if it's sporting something that's twice as fast as the A4, it's going to be going through batteries faster than the Evo. By a lot.

I did a quick look at the new Motorola Droid's specs and that thing is sporting a Snapdragon processor. Without getting too technical, it's a completely different (and weaker) architecture than what the new iPhone (and iPad) is sporting. So different that clock speed does not matter too much when comparing the two. It would be like comparing an Intel processor to a PowerPC in computers: you need to look beyond clock speed.

Stay off the internet BM. :peace

edit - Here are some benchmarks comparing the two processors sporting the same clockspeed: https://www.tipb.com/2010/04/04/apple-a4-snapdragon-clash-chipsets/

Not to really argue it, but how would iPhone 3G users use the video chat?? They only have the one camera, wouldn't they need the front-faced camera that is only available on the new ones??

~~And I agree with you on the processor speeds. The processors are awesome indeed, but it really comes down to the operating system/ software that they are running to really determine the actual speed.

Well, obviously, 3GS users are out because there is no front-facing camera, but there are other phones out there with front facing cameras. Plus, virtually every computer shipped today comes equipped with a camera and video chat capabilities. Why exclude all those?

I don't know if I believe that. It is an apple tech blog site. :lecture:rotfl And the shadow (droid 2) hasn't even had it's specs released yet. :dunno

Ah, I didn't even consider laptops in this. Good call, I'm sure enough complaints will lead to this in future updates.

Well Skype just got their iPhone application cleared for the new phone one would think it'd utilize the video portions. Not to mention that when iBooks first was announced people figured that Apple would box out all other eReader apps or types yet now we have Kindle, B&N, Stanza and a few others that escape my mind. At minimum within a couple of updates I see Skype using it and others joining in but if they want to keep their own version iPhone to iPhone I really see no issue with it, it'll be a novelty at first anyway since a good majority of folks even with the new iPhone won't make calls on that platform other than to ____ around.

So question for you guys. Since I am an extremely inpatient person. Do you think its possible that if I bought an iphone today I would be able to exchange it for the new one if I play dumb and act like I didn't know? I see At&t has a 30 guarantee. :dunno

C'mon man, it's only 10 days away!

Meh, nevermind. I just called the radio shack I went to and I'm first on the list for a new iphone. I HATE waiting! :slap:gah::slap

Wow...this is kind of funny reading this on the forums. How do you manage to get by with some of the Sideshow pre-order delays??

Easy! I sold my entire collection and haven't bought anything in over a year. :lecture:lol

So I called AT&T to get pre-approved. I can have up to 5 iphones if I would like. Think I'm good with 1. However, they really tried to push the 3Gs on me. Go figure! :cuckoo::lol

I'll be buying direct from Apple, hopefully they'll have the white models. If not, I'll be waiting. :monkey2:monkey2:monkey2

I'm not going to do this half-assed. White or fail.
