Actually, like what some of the other guys are saying, surprisingly in hand it does. Specially with proper lighting highlighting the cheekbones, eyes, etc. It looks a lot like Depp.

I went and saw this in the window of Forbidden Planet yesterday, and I have to say I found the likeness to be quite weak I'm afraid.

Imo you shouldn't need to squint, use special mood lighting or whatever to see a likeness if the original sculpt is good enough. These things aren't cheap, so expecting a strong facial representation of the characters shouldn't be an unreasonable request I would have thought.

Exactly - It's like saying Johnny Depp only looks like himself if we put a special light on him - the rest of the time he just walks around looking Asian.

True, and you also probably shouldn't be looking at a picture of a sculpt blown up 10x its real size and nit pick every single pore in its face since when its actually in hand you will never notice them. (Not directed specificly at you but to everyone in general who like to do that.)

Funny thing you guys should try: make a close picture (macro, if you will) of any 1/6 head from your collection. You'd be surprised when you view the pic on your computer, so many imperfections/details you never thought that head had :D

Warning: don't do this if you have ocd :lol

Has anyone posted a repaint of the PF? I'd love to see that sculpt in the hands of one our talented boardies :duff

I have the SS PF as well and imo the likeness is uncanny. Its Depp all the way.

I think, like others have posted, the problem everyone has with the HT version lies in the fact that the image is enlarged so much it is easier for an individual to pick out the imperfections. Once you have that figure in hand at 1:6 scale, those problems become almost non-existent.

True, but I used to work in prop making/sculpting for TV/films and through that I still know a great many professional portrait sculptors and I have to say they've not been impressed with the examples I've shown them from this range of products exhibited so far. Now I know the scale makes a big difference, but the fundamental basics should still be there when it comes to structure.

I once got one of my friends to bash out a very quick Spike head for me in that scale, and so they do know how fiddly sculpting in that size can be, but it can be done.

But then I do appreciate this is a mass marketed item, and this is probably the best we're gonna get sadly.

I do agree that the PF's limitation is the lighting, you HAVE to have the lighting above to highlight the facial structure. When I first took him out of the box, it was kinda like what I was expecting from the SS pics that it seems a little off. But as you can see from the pics, once I placed him in the display case and put the LED above to light him up, I was surprised how it changed it pretty dramatically.
One thing I can say though, it definitely has that cool Wow factor :horror from everyone who has seen it. Every visitor that I had, you can see their eyes light up when they first see it and go...Hey, its Jack Sparrow!!!

As far as HT, I think in hand it would look great. As some of you pointed out, its 1/6 but the pics are blown up so many times, when you do that, you start to notice some imperfections. That is like looking at the figure with your face literally just inches from the figure. The likeness is there in my opinion. Is it 100%? Not really, but I can see Depp there.

Yeah, and thats exactly my point. There will never be a 1/6 sculpt that is 100% perfect in everyones eyes. This is the best example ever. Half don't see Depp at all and the other half see him clear as day. It all comes down to if you like it buy it and if not don't buy it but to keep complaining on and on about every single millimeter is just a waste of time and so pointless.

I was so excited about this figure, that yesterday i put on sale my Kotobukiya Jack Sparrow (the one on the water, from the first film) and today i've already sold it for 100$ :hi5: These money would go for the new ht jack :D

Do you guys can give me a release estimate? May - June?

2 months? We don't even have specs yet, usually like 4 months from specs maybe 6 depending where you order. If your going with Sideshow don't expect Jack to drop until September.

Well, it says specs coming very soon. Hmm, so maybe July - August if i go to ebay (hong kong) directly.

There's really no telling with Hot Toys.
Sometimes they'll release a fig within just a couple of months after they showcase it, then sometimes, they have to tweak a few here and there that it gets released over a year.

Since this is getting nitpicked to death, I would imagine next year cause they may have to add a stubble or two that they might have missed from the comparison pics :wink1:

Its kinda how in every thread where people complain, theres these people who complain about the complaining.

And they think somehow they are helping move things along, instead they are adding a whole nother element of people _____ing about something.

Kinda like how I'm now adding a 3rd position of _____ing about _____ing about _____ing now.

Yea this all worked out and made me look much smarter then those complaining about the figure.
