I don't think he was referring to Ant-Man or She-Hulk since those didn't have cities being destroyed. It sounded like he was talking about movies that should have felt epic but didn't. I agree that IW definitely was from beginning to end and EG was from the portals onward. The Russo brothers just can't catch a break from their hero, lol.
We can diss filmmakers on here like crazy but when filmmakers rag on filmmakers? I really don’t like that at all. There are some that are so respectful, like Edgar Wright, who even after leaving a Marvel project refused to be negative about it. And then there is JC who god bless him often puts his boot in his mouth.

I guess in a cheap and nasty way it is entertaining lol.

My girlfriend's husband buys the groceries, so I don't know what things cost anymore.

Here is where Avatar 2 can get potentially interesting. Investors might not believe in Avatar 3, but they will believe in a sequel to Aliens and a sequel to Terminator. I'm talking actual James Cameron productions top to bottom. It would essentially be a license to print money. I mean how many of you would rush to the theaters if Hicks, Newt and Ripley were still alive and Alien 3 forward all were flushed from canon?

When Eddie Murphy needed a hit, he went back to Beverly Hills Cop 3. When Will Smith lost his luster, he did another Bad Boys movie and another Men In Black movie. Even Harrison Ford saddled back up for Han Solo and Indy because he had a long string of bombs.

How bad does Cameron want Avatar 3? Enough to make Terminator 3 and Alien 3 on his terms in exchange for the financing for his passion project?
I really dont think a new Alien 3 would make money, i would preffer a sequel to covenant by Ridley than a remake from 3 with Hicks, Newt and Ripley or a new Alien 5 with a new cast and a sequel to Alien 4.

I still have hope that in the future Avatar turns to be a prequel to the Alien franchise that happens in the same universe as the predators franchise.
We could even fit Terminator as the main reason earth was destroyed and made humans go to space.
I prefer moving forward with new ideias than remake or reboot something like Terminator Genisys.

But a new Terminator after Dark Fate is something i would watch, but with no nostalgia bait, just pure cameron and the new cast, i really think its time to move forward with the narrative started in T1 and tell a story about the multiple timelines created by the multiple John.

I love the theory that expains the multiple John's actors and reboots by saying each time there is a timejump, Sara gets pregnant with a different spermatozoid from Kyle, creating multiple timelines with different outcomes.

But speaking of Way of Water, is it just me or are Neytiri and the kids much more interesting as characters than Jake? I just feel that jake can die already and make Neytiri and the children the new protagonist.

You're the second person I've seen say they wish that Neytiri would replace Jake. Wow I guess replacing/not replacing the male hero with a female truly is a damned if you do/damned if you don't scenario, lol.

I'm curious though, for those who didn't like Jake are you a dad? I am and found him to be very relatable and likable. But maybe you are too and that has nothing to do with it. Just curious.

I think you’ve just pointed out to me why I liked Jake in this one and not the first. Because I could completely relate to his family situations.

But I do think Jake is going to die in the next one, it makes more sense why Neytiri is so sidelined in this one.

I know right! Many of Jake's decisions were hitting so close to home I couldn't hope but feel forced to do some genuine self-reflection. NOT what I was expecting from this movie at all.

I thought Neytiri was dull as dishwater in this movie. Her signature attack of firing arrows into the cockpits of the bad guy's planes is a retread from the first movie, and after she does it about ten times it stops being cool.

I really don't know why she sticks with Jake, unless the Navi don't believe in divorce for some reason.

After all,
he gets one of their young kids freaking KILLED. That's not something a parent just brushes off. Also, his actions lead to exactly what he claimed he was trying to avoid: he went and brought his personal war to the nice tribe that allowed them to come in. And all of this is AFTER she's excommunicated from the tribe and homelands she's known since birth.

No wonder she spends most of the movie crying.

I'm not a dad and I like Jake just fine. If anything, Neytiri could be killed off and would be the least missed of the Sullys. There were a lot of new characters and new relationships which were given the opportunity to be fleshed out, which is one of the reasons for the simple plot.

For me, I think if Jake is going to die, it will be in Avatar 5 at the end of the human Na'vi conflict. Of course, they could kill him off and replace him with Na'vi Jesus and have nature defeat the humans and technology. They've also hinted at a Na'vi Quritch redemption arc.

I saw this differently to you. I didn't think that they were excommunicated, but rather that they voluntarily left the tribe to protect them from being collateral, since the humans were after Jake. Also, Jake didn't get their kid killed, the kids got him killed as they went off alone against orders. It was the decision to rescue Spider that got Aonung killed. Jake did bring the war earlier than it would have started, but it was coming anyway since the new unobtanium mark 2 required space whale whaling and the water clans considered the space whales to be family. This all of course gave Neytiri reasons to cry [/SPOILER ]

Am I the only one who doesn't want Jake or Neytiri to die, lol.

It would be a first for Cameron to kill off a female lead so she's probably safe. But then if Jake dies well then that would mean that Neytiri loses her father, sister (in the Avatar 1 extended cut), then her loss in this movie and then Jake. Damn, give the poor girl a break, lol.

Yep if the kids disobey then that isn't on Jake unless she expects him to just tie them to a post, lol. I mean they went off on their own and got caught when they were still living in the forest so it's not like he took them out of a safe environment and put them in harm's way.

Yeah, I don't want either to die either. Kill off the kids instead!

I wanted him to die in the first film but not now!! I just don’t understand why he didn’t give more time Neytiri, she is my favorite character in the first film. When was the last time JC sidelined his female lead this much? Maybe True Lies.

Yep. Perfect observation. They could have cut down that 3hr runtime the number of times she did this.

Strongly disagree. If a sequel to covenant was viable it would have been made. If Ridley Scott didn't take his toys back and Chappie did a bit better then Aliens 3 would have been made. Who doesn't want to see Hicks, Ripley and Newt again. I will concede that the actors are getting on a bit now but if Harrison can still wear a fedora then I'm happy to see Ripley go bug hunting again. Newt would be age appropriate as a strong female lead now in any case and Pheobe Waller Bridge would obviously play her.

Wait....one of the Sully kids was named Annyong and I missed that somehow?

Also, just saw this and thought it was funny:

I think watching a movie in HFR 3D is garbage.. I wouldn't recommend it to anyone, especially to those that hate the motion enhancement on TV's that cause the "soap opera" effect. For me it felt like that but dialed up to 10 on such a large screen. Whenever I am at someone's house that has it turned on I want to scream, and try to patiently wait till I'm alone so I can turn it off... :lol Some people say they can't even tell the difference, which is so baffling to me...

I saw the last Hobbit movie this way, and it was so bad I wanted to leave. I felt like I was watching people live on a stage. It was so distracting it almost ruined the movie for me. Maybe a nearly all CGI movie like this is possibly better, but personally I will NEVER watch a movie in that again. And with most reviews it seems to be a mixed bag of either good/bad. HFR was supposed to be the next big thing after 3D, but not too many movies have ever released that way in theaters.

I'm with you. Despise high frame rate. I see that stuff on a TV and can't get to the remote fast enough to try to figure out how to turn it off. I can't stand that "PBS/soap opera" look. Ugh.

Couldn't agree more. It complete kills the romantic/ethereal aesthetic of film.

It reminds of the days with video cameras, where everything was in focus and ridiculously sharp. It makes everything look cheap.

That's why people like Greig Fraser worked with Arri to purposed-build lenses for The Batman, to enhance that romantic look. They essentially "broke" the lenses in order to achieve that incredible immersion.

Give me Dune or The Batman any day of the week over this kind of video game look (and don't get me wrong, I like video games - I just don't want movies to look like them.)
