Re: Avengers: Endgame (April 26th, 2019)

I wonder if Amy Pascal jumping from Sony to Universal will have any impact on Hulk’s unique contract like she had with Spidey.

Amy Pascal must be Disney’s mole lol

I know this sounds goofy being Comic book movies and all.. But IW still felt grounded in reality.. Perhaps because it was so dark.

EG took on a fantasy feel due to the time travel.. It no longer felt as MCUish as the other films.

I am hoping to feel differently when I go see it again.

Perhaps a second viewing will change my mind.

It could. I found the second viewing much more enjoyable. I initially did not care for the time travel stuff too, but now I have come to appreciate it not just for the fan service, but for giving closure to some of the plot threads of the characters (Tony's daddy issues, Thor's mommy issues, Steve's virginity issues).

I'm revisiting these posts to ask a question: Did anyone else have a fleeting feeling of disappointment when they realized that the long anticipated Quantum Realm time travel solution was indeed how they were going to get the stones? While the Time Heist fan service was quite enjoyable, going in I was hoping the spy photos of characters in their A1 suits on set and the inclusion of Scott and the white suits in the trailers were all part of an elaborate diversion/counter-spoiler campaign. I guess I just wanted them to really surprise us with their solution.

With respect to the Time Heist: I keep wondering about 2012 and The Ancient One's presence in New York, as in why was she even there and why is she lugging around the Eye of Agamotto? In Dr. Strange (which granted, is 4 years in the future) there was a different guardian of the New York sanctum, and the Eye was kept at Kamar-Taj. I suppose we're supposed to assume that The Ancient One saw the threat in New York and took an express portal there to help, but you'd think we'd see at least one more sorcerer fighting by her side. And maybe this was the event that convinced her to not carry the Eye around all the time. Still, seems like a bit of dumb luck that the Time Stone was there at all.

Re: Avengers: Endgame (April 26th, 2019)

Honestly the only real time travel connection I was expecting was Fury and maybe even Coulson but definitely Fury since he seemed to be the sole earthly architect of all the Avengers stuff so I was surprised to see him completely left out of the whole proceedings, very weird.

Skrulls I tell you, Skrulls!

Go ahead mock me now but you’ll see lol

Can we please get back to complaining about the lack of rage Hulk or is that just JAWS making a mountain out of a mole hill. :lol

This may be old but I thought I'd share. I noticed Groot was missing - maybe Stallone?

I went to see this again last night (my sixth time) and the theater was still completely sold out. I know some have questioned the movie's "rewatchability", but I have absolutely no issue with that. Every time I've seen it, I've been locked into the story and nearly joyous just to be going on this ride again.

Re: Avengers: Endgame (April 26th, 2019)

I’m going for my third and fourth this weekend because my second was a resounding success so i’m right there with you my fellow geek Neal.

I know it can get very easy to nitpick these movies but isn’t it amazing though that as a kid I would have to rely on the funny books and my imagination if I wanted to see superheroes doing what superheroes are capable of doing but now my son today instead of opening a funny book he can watch the movies because the 3D cgi have far surpassed the flat pages!

Re: Avengers: Endgame (April 26th, 2019)

By the way, if you like the movie and find any interest in the score, check out the track "Portals". It gives me chills every single time. Also, "The Real Hero" triggers an emotional response, but that's just pure sadness.

Re: Avengers: Endgame (April 26th, 2019)

I agree...

I wonder if Spider-man will touch on those things?

At the same time.. I am not sure how many Marvel movies I want to see that talk about "The Event" and its
repercussions. I mean it almost should be discussed all the time due to the enormity of it... At the same time that could get old.

Yeah, I grew to dislike the constant references to "the Incident" or whatever the Marvel Netflix shows called Loki's attack on New York. At first I thought it was cool because it seemed like the shows really were going to merge with the films but by the 7th time they referenced it I was like okay **** or get off the pot, lol.

SM:H did a much better job of showing how the alien invasion had reverberated through the lives of normal everyday people.

I wasn't really disappointed because of how we expected it to be time travel, I was initially disappointed because it was time travel. I'm pretty sensitive to time travel stories because of how it tends to break canon and introduce plot holes. However, after watching the movie a second time, I am more satisfied with how they closed the loops and alternate realities.

As for the Ancient One, I just assumed she joined the fight in New York and brought the stone with her. I did not need to see the other sorcerers join in at that point because it made the final battle more epic when they finally went in.

Partially, I assumed that the team would all have to go sub-atomic (maybe to repair the stones that Thanos had reduced to "atoms") where they might face those wild and crazy creatures that Hank saw when he entered the Quantum Realm to rescue original Wasp. But even though we've seen the BTTF II stuff before I don't know that we've ever seen such craziness in a film or series that actually isn't primarily focused on time travel. Time travel really is a core element of all the other films that AEG referenced from BTTF to Terminator. So you expect weird loops, paradoxes, alternate realities or what have you in those films.

To see such themes applied to a *non* time travel story actually made it feel kind of new and exciting to me and revisiting past films as a bit of a greatest hits victory lap was quite entertaining IMO.

Here’s Khev when the end credits popped up..

:lol :lol :lol

YES. :exactly: That gif is from "Godzilla vs. Monster Zero" right? I remember watching that film as a kid with my cousins on VHS after I'd already seen the 1954 original and Rodan and thought they were all serious horror type films. Then Godzilla inexplicably starts doing that on the moon and we must have rewound the tape half a dozen times, doubled over in confused laughter, lol.

My disappointment was only fleeting - it’s not as if I’d thought of a better story without time travel where they both reversed the snap and defeated Thanos.

I did read an article lamenting the decision to have Tony snap all the baddies, essentially doing what Thanos did but on a smaller scale. It argued that some of them were likely serving Thanos out of fear & Tony was as bad as Thanos to summarily judge them like that. IDK, maybe just snapping Thanos would have been a better call? Tony could have still died from his snap, reinforcing how truly difficult it was to kill Thanos.

Don’t get me wrong - I found it quite entertaining as well. I wouldn’t have seen it 4 times already if I hadn’t. lol. It was too much to ask, but I was hoping they came up with a solution that NO ONE saw coming.

IIRC Thanos only had cream of the crop warriors in his armies, not begrudging slaves who followed him out of fear for their lives.

How did the avengers know that the time stone was in ny? Or did they just assume?
