Re: Avengers: Endgame (April 26th, 2019)

My Avengers film ranking...not that anyone cares.

1. The Avengers
2. Endgame
3. Infinity War
.
.
.
.
4. AOU

I forgot there's only four. :lol

Mine is:

1 EG
2 IW/A1 tied
3. AOU

My autism loves ranking. OK...

1. IW
2. EG
3. A1 (but this is a hair's breath away from the #2 spot -- only Thanos keeps it at #3 -- at least its a complete story)

I do not like Ultron. I would not watch it with moose. I would not watch it with a goose.

Re: Avengers: Endgame (April 26th, 2019)

So much AOU hate....

Its a good movie.....

Unlike Ultron, I threw up a little in my mouth just then...

it could never have the punch of either of those.

It had an open field to have the best villain in the MCU up to Thanos... and it should have. But instead we got a jokey Adam West Batman villain complete with one-liners and a ridiculous super-plot. It all felt so 90's.

Re: Avengers: Endgame (April 26th, 2019)

It still sucks tho. :lol
What AOU does as far as setting up certain characters and situations could have been accomplished in a good movie.

Re: Avengers: Endgame (April 26th, 2019)

Ultron is underrated. He's a great villain and foil. The opening action, party scene, ****-free Quicksilver, Andy Serkis chewing the scenery, Hulk v. Buster, Wa...waa. Wakanada?

Thanks goodness Whedon stuck to his guns and the Mouse People let him keep Hawkeye's farm. In exchange he had to include Thor's magic hot tub scene. Which one of those paid off again?

No kidding. How hilarious that AEG made Hawkeye's farm awesome and "we have a Hulk" lame, lol.

:chase

I was with you for most of that, but Ultron is a really mediocre villain. Typical monologuing bad guy without any interesting motivation. Its a shame when you look at the trailer and it makes it look like he would be a real ominous threat.

The movie has a lot of good scenes; the party and the farm scenes among them. But overall its a pretty forgettable movie that fails to live up to the excellence of pretty much every other Marvel team up movie.

And that disaster of a hot tub scene is especially egregious because now we know that it has absolutely zero to do with what Ragnarok actually ended up being. Makes it clear that they had a completely different vision for the movie.

I disagree with you about Ultron - I think he's a great anti-Tony and I love his sort of cheerful Rust Cohle opinion of humanity. But I will concede it's somewhat forgettable. I do love what I love about it, but it doesn't feel vital like the rest of the Avengers series.

My reaction to Loki's "have a Hulk" in IW was the same as Future Cap's reaction to "...do this all day" in EG.

That was the fourth time Cap said that line in one of the films, I think they were right to recognize that they'd gotten enough mileage out of it by that point.

Yeah, that and most EG was pitch-perfect. But it took me two viewings to appreciate it.

My feeling about Ultron are well known.. IMO its the only truly bad movie in MCU with Thor 2 very close behind.

I was actually disapointed to find that he used the line twice in TFA.

I knew about the first time of course but I thought he didnt say it again until CW..

When I watched TFA again last month it was the first time I noticed he said it for the actual 2nd time to Red Skull..

It takes away the impact in CW a bit for me now.

I was fine with how it was handled in EG as it is apparently Caps catch phrase :lol

Re: Avengers: Endgame (April 26th, 2019)

My ranking:

1. EG
2. CW (its essentially an Avengers film)
3. A1
4. IW
5. AOU

Re: Avengers: Endgame (April 26th, 2019)

Oh and going back to Cap lifting the hammer at the AOU party for a minute. I don't think that him being considerate of Thor's "ego" (if you want to put it that way) diminishes Thor's character. After all Vision lifted the hammer later in that same film and it didn't crush Thor. But at the party when Thor was a bit tipsy and Stark and Hawkeye had already mocked him over the whole being worthy thing? That wouldn't have been the time to prove them right and go out of his way to humiliate a fellow teammate.

Thor reacting humbly to both Vision and Cap lifting it shows that he was indeed a class act.

It can also be argued that Steve didn't stop lifting the hammer to protect Thor's ego, but rather *everyone else's* who had just spectacularly failed to do the same.

Re: Avengers: Endgame (April 26th, 2019)

A1 is a solid movie through and through. And complete. Endlessly rewatchable.

IW I just love. Its like ESB - a series of great scenes with heroes being separated that all culminate in a devastating finale. It is also endlessly rewatchable.

A1/IW have much in common with ANH/ESB

Then there's EG. I love seeing the ending. The end of Thanos. But the rest of it.... I don't know. It's not calling to me like IW did. But I've only seen it once. I just didn't get the same kind of goosebumps as the other two.

I have a feeling in time my ranking will be:

1. IW
2. A1
3. EG

Re: Avengers: Endgame (April 26th, 2019)

Everyone's rankings are good (even JAWS' ;)). But AEG is beyond off the charts for me. IW is admittedly the more elegant of the two with how it maintains the same level of dread for the entirety of its run time and ranks closely behind. What an absolutely amazing one-two punch.

If EG somehow maintained a level through the whole film, like it had at the end, for 3 hours, some people would be taken from the theaters in stretchers.
