That would be cool. Although unless no one knew that that was Peggy's husband surely it would be considered weird that he'd be carrying from the back? Maybe it wouldn't be, thankfully I haven't had many funerals in my life so far.

Anyway I was pondering more on why I had such a subdued reaction to the film after the first viewing. I wasn't sure I liked that Black Widow and Tony Stark died while Cap went back in time and stayed there to grow old.

On second viewing though I think I realized that I just feel the same as Sam does when he says ''only thing bumming me out is the fact I have to live in world without Captain America''. I'll just miss these characters as the MCU goes on. All good things come to an end eventually.

I could see old Steve remembering that he carried her casket in the front right corner when he was younger so deliberately choosing the back left to distance himself from his alternate self.

But otherwise I hear you on the main hero sendoffs.

From what I've taken from the writers' comments they weren't trying to give Cap a happy ending at the expense of Widow and Stark. They just saw each as having their own proper resolution. Tony lived the good life for decades and was mostly self-centered throughout so his end was to sacrifice himself so that others could live the good life or simply live at all. Steve missed out on much of life's joys since childhood so they wanted to give him the "soldier returning home from war" finale. And BW was continuously haunted by feelings of never being able to "clear the red from her ledger" and her death finally gave her that assurance and peace.

Avengers Melancholy

Dude poor original Gamora. She probably has the most tragic end of any MCU character. She did *not* go off that cliff on her own terms like Widow and is gone forever. Alternate 2014 Gamora might as well be a clone, she has and never will have the same history with Star-Lord as her previous self.

Yeah. When he sees 2014 Gamora Starlord says ''I thought I lost you''. You did. That unfortunate version of Gamora stays dead.

I agree that her conclusion...for now which is all that matters for me anyways...was pretty damn bleak no matter what side of her allegiance one examines.

Yep.

Totally. I think for my head canon that says EG is the true end of the MCU (give or take SMFFH, I'm fine with or without it) I'll always ignore that take a knee deleted scene and just assume that alternate Gamora turned to ash. I don't really picture her just bailing on Nebula and running off into the forest, lol. Since original Gamora who had strong bonds with the team is gone forever the new one might as well be too.

Really gives not just a lasting price that was paid in the war but also an element of true tragedy beyond even the loss of Tony and Widow.

All of this would make sense if they use the same writers but the inconsistencies are the reason we are getting what ifs

I think the only reason Black Widow is getting her own movie now is because they want to give her a proper send off and make up for the fact that she was the only original Avengers member not to be in the final battle of the Infinity saga.

What if 2014 Gamora becomes the new Thor’s queen? Poor quill would have to live knowing her never gets to be like Kirk banging the green chick

Sounds like the first episode of a new Disney+ series, lol.

If I could change one thing about EG it would be the silly girl power moment. Not because girl power is bad but because they did the same damn scene with BW, SW, Okoye and Proxima Midnight in IW. Even the dialogue "she's not alone" was the same. It was organic and fun in IW and didn't push it (3 women teaming up instead of 10 or however many.) It's a definite eye-roller in EG especially when watching the compartmentalized clip on YouTube. I forgive it of course but would have preferred that they had simply left it as a "fun" deleted scene and not put it in the actual film.

Agreed. I watched with my brothers and one of my brothers' fiancee - I could hear her scoffing at it from across the room. None of the rest of us had said anything, I don't think she was doing it for our benefit. A lot of girls see it as the cringey patronizing crap it is. That was it though, there were no other blatant current year feminist statements that I recall.

I love that Thanos had to call in the artillery when he was fighting Scarlet Witch, such was his difficulty with her and I won't lie - I loved Captain Marvel's entrance and her role in the battle. They were ****ed if they couldn't take down that massive ship. And as an Avenger of such strength it made sense that she would tackle Thanos but it made further sense for us, the viewing audience, that she not ultimately be the one to end him given her newb status. That final desperate grapple for the Gauntlet with Captain Marvel, Thor, Cap and finally Iron Man was intense viewing.

Yeah I was fine with CM's involvement in EG other than the aforementioned girl power moment but really, cringy as it was it was what 10 seconds of goofiness out of a 3 hour epic? I can let it slide, lol.

I was okay with some of CM's moments despite her character feeling sorta forced into the film. I would have preferred the Hulk tackling Thanos at the end and grappling for the gauntlet before being KOed by the power stone. That would've made this movie perfect IMO. Because of this, I like IW better.

CM's destruction of the alien mother ship should have been plenty for her in that end battle. That, and the silly girl power moment. Not trying to offend anyone but c'mon. That was cheesy.

It's called noticing the amazing way that so many pieces fit together seamlessly over 11 years and 22 films, regardless of what was planned.

Like two Steves carrying Peggy's casket all along. :panic:

Was that confirmed? I thought I read somewhere that the writers said it was coincidence and that was just a random old dude.

I do get why she left on that deleted scene though. She doesn't know anyone in the Avengers. She doesn't know who that random armored guy was. And she was probably being cautious knowing that her affiliation with Thanos might come back to bite her. I'm sure in the next GotG she'll be in contact with Nebula somehow.

I do agree with the girl power moment being cringy as it was. I really think it would have been less cringy and more awesome had it been Nebula and Gamora running with the football.

This is another nice small detail on that fight:

Also.... That moss growing on Korg....
