You know, I can understand some of the criticism, but not all of it. It wasn't a bad movie, it really REALLY wasn't. Sure, it could have been better, everything has room for improvement, but it was an enjoyable flick.

I used to HATE the idea of new Spiderman movies, and I didn't want to see Batman Begins, because A) Spiderman was a HUGE part of my childhood, and I just knew no one could do it right with all of that 'stupid' CGI crap. And B) Batman, I used to watch the cartoons after elementary school, and then watch the original series on FX at night. Basically, I thought they'd harm what I held near my heart as a child.

Know what I did? I got over it, and saw the movies because not seeing them, and picking apart movies is ****in lame to me. Guess what happened? I let myself be entertained and enjoy the stories.

...I still think a lot of people need to get that Predator and Alien can't be redone, or reintroduced the way we all saw them the first time, and that is OKAY! Even Anderson's AVP is an alright movie, people said years ago that if they made an AVP movie, it should have some comic influence, and it still did. Lex and Scar were loosely based on Broken Tusk and Machiko, THAT'S the main reason I liked it. Like I said, coulda been better, but still a decent movie.

If you can love the movie others can hate it. Some people wanted more than a mindless mediocre monster movie.

Honestly, Jamal if he didn't know what he was going into before he went than that is his fault. Telling someone who has a different opinion is eating a **** sandwich is dumb.

I think he just meant it as a figure of speech i dont think he meant it literally lol

You mean like an Oscar winning performance by Wolf? Maybe the next AVP movie we'll see a Pred cry after a kill!

Man, I sure don't put this much effort into my entertainment. :lol
Some heated debate. Over AVP-R to boot!
One man's wine is another man's vinegar I guess.

Anyway, to add something useful to the discussion, I just got my AVP-R INSIDE THE MONSTER SHOP ADI book yesterday, and like the effect from the previous Design Studio Press book for the AVP movie, THIS BOOK RULES! Great pics and stills abound from the making of AVP-R including great shots of Steve Wang sculpting the PA, and the designs for "The WOLF" which is now, not only the official name for me, and no longer just a fan based, conjectural name I just read online, but I know know why...and it made me laugh. Anyone see Pulp Fiction? Yeah, Harvey Keitel, THE WOLF, the cleaner. Thought so. Too LEON in tone, and the Keitel name angle just cracks me up. Those ADI guys! :lol
He was called "The PRO" during development, but the cleaner name angle stuck I guess.

Anyway, if you want some killer pics and stuff from the movie, with Absolute references for all the colors and details, then if you can't find the book somewhere online, order it directly from Design Studio Press here (they even overnighted it to me!):

AVP-R Making of BOOK

GOOD STUFF!

Now, we return you to the regular programming, the heated debate over just how good or bad the movie is, already in progress...:D

And BTW, I like it just fine. It's no JAWS, but it was worth my day trip to go see it, and you can bet I'll get the VERY extended DVD! :rock

:rotfl Exactly. I guess he didn't read my entire posting either since I made it quite clear I knew how bad the movie was going to be weeks before it's release when Fox refused to allow advanced showings. If Fox tells me in advance the movie is crap, well they should know, and that's good enough for me. If I hadn't gotten to see it for free, I wouldn't have gone at all. Unfortunately I did, and it was every bit as bad as I expected it to be.

Movie kicked ass, that is all.

:D Go Predators!

I don't think anyone was expecting Fox to give us an Oscar nominated movie. But a movie featuring a half decent script, good acting and competent directing would have been nice

Fox made 160 million [box office alone] from AVP. So how did they reward the people who paid to see that garbage? They actually lowered the budget for the second one by 25%, and filled their pockets with the rest. And I think the results speak for themselves.

i just got back from the movie last night and i was so dissapointed! i actually enjoyed the first AvP more!!

these were just some of the things that bothered me:

1. first 5 minutes felt like i had ADHD
2. didn't the ship take off and was a fair distance from earth before the battle on the ship? - so why did it land on earth again?
3. predalien seemed to grow to fullsize in literally 3 minutes
4. ship crashed landed and no-one on earth noticed
5. predator planet was shown for no more than 10 seconds
6. wolf blew up the predator ship on earth and no one noticed
7. wolf as a "clean up" predator made a terrible mess of things on earth
8. predator using his medical kit - exactly like P2, with no expanding of the mythos
9. all the marines getting attacked by the aliens - exactly like in "Aliens" - totally un-original
10. tank driving off exactly like ripley driving the APC - completely un-original
11. "get to the chopper!"
12. "mommy, are the monsters gone?"
13. dawson's creek characters
14. government blowing up the city - retarded
15. 100 more issues

Wolf Predator was cool though. He looked great, moved great, and i liked his whip.

one person said it best and said that they got a bunch of people in a room and asked them to write down their favorite moments from all the previous movies and cobbled them together in a story.

i wish i enjoyed it and all the power to all the people that loved it!

what bothers me is that it seems that nowadays these movies are made for teenagers, with no regard or respect for the fans that grew up watching these movies and who made all these executives filthy rich.

I may go see it with my mate again, i wanna see Wolf again. i loved that design man they did a real good job on the creature suits this time around

don't know if you guys can help, but i asked earlier and no one could help. What was the relevance of the woman at the end, i know it was the twist but i totally missed it?

Anyone? Anyone? Bueller?

D

The evil "Company" in the Alien series was called the Weyland-Yutani Corporation. So this was referring to the Yutani portion of the company. the first AvP movie talked about the Weyland portion,

It was supposed to be Ms. Yutani, from the Weyland-Yutani corporation in the Alien movies.

Supposedly, they're supposed to reverse engineer the plasma cannon, which eventually leads to humans in space. EDIT: Obviously at a bigger scale than what we've done already, before any smart ***** post.

Double Edit: I just realized Jamal asked if the Predalien was a Queen, and according to Colin Strause, Chet WAS a young Queen.
