I though there were spikes at the bottom, a la Mortal Kombat.
How do you know though? That place was magical! Superman went into some BS chamber that made him lose his powers, then later, somehow reversed it so the three Kryptonians lost theirs. How does sliding down some ice into mist like an amusement park ride = death?
Besides, why would Superman want to kill them if they were mortal? He didn't kill Luthor.

There was safety mats at the bottom. I know this because Terence Stamp did many movies after Superman II. It therefore stands to reason that he survived the fall.
Hey at least Zod was talking after his butt whooping, and other than the parade one your other examples were ancient Superman continuity before the comics code and alternate reality stories. The article I saw referred to the Byrne reboot.
Yeah, maybe Zod and the other two just broke their leg like in Austin Powers when Dr. Evil tried to kill that bench men by dropping him into a pit. Remember, "My leg is very badly broken, but I will try and stand up anyway." Crunch! "My other leg is broken but I am very much alive." Besides Lois right crossed that chick into the mist making them both killers if you believe that they died.
I just did a Google search on how many times has superman killed. In the main continuity it was the three villains in an alternate reality. Other than than there really are no other true killings listed. He blew up a star eater and sent some villains somewhere they might have died but other than exposing kryptonite to an alternate Zod that's about it. So I don't know where this belief comes from that he kills all the time.

How did we know they died? They fell into mist. For all we know, they're imprisoned in the Fortress of Solitude if we disregard the deleted scene.
It's certainly not as conclusive as say, a neck break.
That doesn't mean it didn't happen. Cold blooded? He literally begged Zod to stopSuperman never actually committed murder like he did in MoS (neck snapping? that's just cold-blooded), besides some Else-world stories. All those examples listed by Clown Prince only imply he killed them, but it was never shown.
Any idea of length and girth? Would the Hot Toys Zod figure fit inside one?

Also, there are more examples, in main continuity, just now I remembered a time when he killed a Kryptonian dragon.
Well, lets think about that for a second. We never see them again, and they made two sequels, but lets pretend that somehow they survived the fall. That's big fall, at least 40ft, so if their human bodies survived, they must have broken legs, arms, and concussions. Now, they are at the bottom of that pit, freezing, in pain with broken bones, and with no food, which leads to cannibalism, all that while Sups is back in Metropolis getting a hero's welcome, beating up the truck driver, and flying around the world. That's cruel.
There's always the possibility that he has some kind of alien snake down there.
At least a broken neck is a quick death.
It's like less than 10! Especially when Non face dives! It's like the equivalence of a swimming pool. Hell, when Superman throws Zod into the ice wall, Zod is going in slow motion as if he's levitating. He doesn't even hit the wall with force and slowly slides down the slanted wall into the mist below! It certainly wasn't 40 feet. They were fine!

40ft? Whaaaaat?!?

I liked Lois' "you're a real pain in the neck" line before she punches Ursa. It foreshadowed Man of Steel perfectly.
