Free advance screening for the comic shop I help out at.

I still feel I paid too much.

Why is WWEJedi being so civil? I'm scared and confused...

:dunno :lol

As I have been saying.... I did want this to be good, everyone knows what I thought this would be, nothing really more to say but just talk about it. Looking forward to seeing this now though. It will either confirm what the critics said... or I might be defending the **** out of this movie :lol Kind of excited for the first time now :lol

Your right, but I do like both characters, but honestly I've seen enough bad Batman and Superman (especially Superman) films that I don't get surprised when another bad one comes out.

I'm not a big sports fan either, and yes, seeing a lot of sports fans behavior really makes me shudder at times.

I'm pretty even tempered, or, for you Superman fans, mild mannered.

Yeah, I did want this to be good.. but if the reviews were good I would be clapping right now and be saying prove me wrong. Now that they are bad... I am just happy we got some good Batman movies in the past and hopefully I find some joy in this movie. More excited to see it now though :lol

Also... you should have seen me during Super Bowl 49! :lol I was going crazy :lol

Well... I just finished watching it.

Yup.

:lol Sitting on the fence? Pick a side! :lol

Edit: I see the side you pick. Ouch, that bad? Man.... :lol

Putting aside overall review "scores," some of the specific reviewer comments are troubling to me. "Almost entirely humorless," "constantly threatening to collapse from self-seriousness," "cluttered," "too much of everything." It sounds like the worst parts of Man of Steel crossed with the worst aspects of Age of Ultron. But of course, it could be I'll not feel the same way, but these preliminary reviews are kinda telling me what I feared we would be seeing.

While I'm admittedly looking at some of the Reviews so far with a bit of side-eye, the one thing that stands out as really odd is Rotten Tomatoes' rating system. It's so almost arbitrary.

Take EW's review, for example. It's more of a mediocre review. But it scores the movie a C+ and got a Rotten, even though RT's own measurement for Certified Fresh (good) is just 60%. None of that makes any sense. :lol
Well since it's just a percentage of "agrees" it works differently than a "goodness scale." So I don't have a problem with their having their own distinct criteria. It's probably based on agreement percentile ranks across many films (i.e., X% of all movies will rank as "fresh" and Y% won't). That's why I'll usually also look at Metacritic, alongside RT to gauge overall critical consensus, even though Metacritic is more vague than I would like with their methodology.

I didn't like MOS, but I respected what they were trying to do with the character and movie.
I understood it, but not sure I can ever "respect" such a take on a character that is so fundamentally opposed to being presented in such a way. Same way I can't appreciate Trank's take (putting execution aside) on the FF, even if I understand what he was trying to do.

It sounds like there are some people who wanted this to be more like MAN OF STEEL and are disappointed that it's not, which is very dubious to me.
Even if this movie isn't very good, if they pull back from the things that made Man of Steel so depressing and humorless, I'm sure that I'll think of it as an improvement.

Iron Crap 3 has 79%. :lol
That's because Iron Man 3 is a genuinely good movie! Geek fans just had the wrong expectations across the board. Especially you, Riddick! Especially you!!!!!

I think that reviewers are just swinging by Marvels &@$!s now. They want every comic book film to be full of humor and not too serious. Seriously have these reviewers seen TDK trilogy?!?! They were loved by critics but now Marvel has changed the game I guess. Oh well, I haven't seen the film yet so I can't say they are wrong if it's a bad film. But if the main complaint is being too serious, I expect to at least like it.

There goes pturtle's dream of a perfect 2016. :lol

It can still happen! We have a few more days of reviews. I already paid for my ticket so I hope I like it, if not then maybe next year will be a perfect year. Apocalypse isn't looking that great either so maybe this year will actually be a nightmare for me :lol

My main complaint isn't that it is overly serious (although it is). Its that pretty much every single thing in the plot has you going "Huh? But... Huh? Why?". Like everything.

Oh and Eisenberg is just the absolute worst. He is seriously painful to watch. I felt myself getting more and more angry at his portrayal every time he shows up.

Affleck though? As I thought when he was first announced... Is the film's only saving grace. His Batman is pretty darned solid (though not without huge charcater missteps... Like completely lacking in the detective department).

Do you like anything DC/WB after Batman Returns?

Has there really been anything outside of Nolan that is worth liking in most folks opinions? :)

I thought Batman Begins was ok. I love the Flash TV show.

I liked Watchmen up until the altered film-version ending.

I didn't care for Dark Knight really. And I hate MOS.

Clearly you haven't been reading the Daredevil thread. Viewers are welcoming the more adult tone, realistic violence and relatable characters.

Daredevil is so great. But, if it was supposed to be a Superman show and had the same themes and level of violence, I wouldn't watch it probably. DD is supposed to be dark as ****.
