Why do people put so much stock into reviews and RT scores? I have never once read a review or looked at RT before seeing a movie. None of the people I know read reviews either.

I think it just makes for fun conversation. I never give into the hoopla over reviews, I always make my own decision after viewing a film. Bad reviews can deter me from spending money to see them in the theater though and if the bad reviews ended up being true I learn the easy way :lol

I enjoyed MoS and that has a 56% rating on rottentomatoes. With the way things are going I don't see BvS beating that score.

I don't know if it's even about the actual review of the movie, WB/DC gambled with their anti Marvel soapbox and now that things aren't looking so good Marvel fans will be quick to say HAHA while DC fans will complain that they shouldn't have followed the Marvel path.

Lose/Lose for WB!

There are bigger things going on here than just the movie.

Well you've gotta have some mechanism for determining which movies you watch. No one picks movies randomly out of a hat, and we have a limited range of movies we have the time or inclination to watch. Consensus critical opinion can be a factor in helping us make decisions. And even though taste is subjective, on balance, if only 1/4 of movie reviewers thinks a movie is good, chances are it stinks. And I'm sure all of us will disagree with the consensus here or there (I really enjoyed Punisher War Zone. . .), but it's still a useful device.

Plus, it's also just useful to gauge how others feel for the purpose of knowing broad perceptions. Same reason many are interested in political polling, even though that information usually won't affect anyone in a direct way. It allows us to contextualize our own opinions about things. Intellectual curiosity, being amateur sociologists, also plays a role here.

This is why studios could care less if people or critics liked or hated a movie, they only care if it made money.

Can someone give Kara a rep please?!

Ok so here we go. Let's get the hype out of the way first. No, this film is not the best comic book film of all time. No it is not better than TDK. And despite the many problems I have with Avengers it isn't better than that film either.Things I loved:Wonder Woman. Gal Gadot was fantastic. She is beyond perfect as Wonder Woman. The way the film handles the character is actually very good. You want to see more and it does leave me excited about her solo film. The only negative thing I have to say about her is that she wasn't in the film more.Batfleck is really good. He brings it this performance. Yeah he is in the discussion of Best overall Batman IMO. He's intense, focused, angry, and driven. His Batman fights and uses tech in a way we haven't seen. He is really the Arkham Batman brought to life in this film. But I got some issues we will talk about later.Henry Cavil is given much more to do as traditional Clark. And for those who complained about How he wasn't really Clark Kent in MOS you will get that here. We see him chasing a story and being a detective in his own right. His Superman is still learning the ropes. He is a little bullheaded and doesn't always think before he rushes in. Again I like that they are progressing this aspect as well. He's still growing to become the hero he wants to be and the hero Earth needs him to be. But he ain't in the clear either. We will get to that. The cameos of the other league members was well done. They aren't intrusive to the film. These were handled very lightly and perfectly. You are left with questions and wanting to see more. It's a proper tease.Let's get Lex out of the way. I am in the not liking the choices Eisenberg made in regards to Lex. So the writing makes Lex seem menacing and dangerous at times. But the performance never really gets there! I just don't get his choice here. To me the few moments he plays it straight, like when he confronts Lois or Superman are very good. He presents a confidence and ruthlessness that is awesome. In those moments he is up there with animated Lex. The other times, I am just kind of left scratching my head. It's at times like he is the Batman 1966 version of Lex. It doesn't always work. But when he does get it too work which is not enough IMO, he is believable and threatening. For all the casting kudos I can give WB/DC/Snyder this one seems like a slight stumble. Slight because when it works, it really works. But it doesn't work enough. Eisenberg should have toned it down to a 7 instead of the 12 he was at all the time.

Which brings up why many here are interested in this movie's ratings today, in my opinion. If a movie is good critically, that usually means more word of mouth, which can mean more money. Not necessarily of course, but holding everything else constant. Deadpool made a crapload, in large part, because it had staying power. Lots of movies make a mint on opening weekend and taper off. Everyone expects Bats V. Superman to kill this weekend. So if we want to anticipate the long-term success, and thus possibly, strategy of the WB DC films, critical consensus could be a good proxy.

But there's always the Transformers franchise proving that sometimes it just doesn't matter what the critics think :lol

I kind of wonder how people would have reacted to the Nolan trilogy had it been released post-Avengers. We already saw some of it with TDKR, but it really does make one curious.

I also can't help but wonder how BvS would have been received if it was released *instead* of the Nolan trilogy. Critics love giving scores based on context rather than quality. "Well it's not as good as Netflix Daredevil so...thumbs down." But if this was DC's first film since Batman & Robin? I imagine critics would have been ****ing themselves with their mouths wide open.

I also think that critics hate giving everything favorable reviews and that a lot of them are probably saving their gold stars for Civil War. Which is just dumb. Or they gave a charity thumbs up to Deadpool and now feel they have to trash BvS to make up for it. It doesn't have to be either/or, overlapping genre films can both be appreciated and enjoyed on their own respective merits.

MOAR! MOAR! :cuss:

Well almost every movie ever reviewed is reviewed in context. You don't know how amazing the Godfather is until you can compare it to everything else, right?

And looking at a list by RT on their site, currently, Batman V. Superman would be ranked in the 35th percentile of all comic movies, wedged between Rise of the Silver Surfer and Blade 2 (which I thought was quite good and should be ranked way higher). But I agree that movies should be assessed in their own time and place, and by that approach, I doubt this is a fair comparison. X-Men: the Last Stand got a 58. No way on earth that would happen if it were released today.

WB is just praying for a Jurassic World scenario about now.

Look parents, Batman-Rex!

This is a new negative review from Time Magazine by Stephanie Zacharek

"As superhero spectacles go, Zack Snyder's Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice is a grand one, with a mondo-operatic climax and a final shot infused with quivering, exhilarating molecules of grace. It's also not much fun."

I don't get it :dunno

I took my mother in law to see Blade 2! :lol

Honestly, critical reviews are kind of important. They can certainly hurt a films box office, and they even get brought up when talking about a films success historically. That's usually why I care about reviews, a lot of times my opinion doesn't match up with the consensus but at the end of the day critical reviews are kind of important. I'm just praying one of these days a MCU film will finally be rotten because I know a lot of fans hide behind that argument.

I personally think Iron Man 2, 3, THor 2, TIH, Ant-Man, Avengers, and AOU should all be rotten, I just don't know how these movies got good reviews. I actually think MOS is better than most of these movies I listed and I don't think that movie was very good either.
