Yes I did. He was supposed to come with me on opening Saturday but he wasn't able to get tickets (he went out to buy the day after I did). When I got home he asked me how it was and I gave him my non-spoiler review (basically I said the fights were fun and entertaining, but they tried to cram too many things into it so it felt bloated and disjointed). So now he hasn't seen it.

I read the reviews only after I watched the film myself. I usually avoid reviews to avoid both spoilers and a biased view of the film. You see, positive reviews can make me expect too much while negative reviews will have me searching for flaws I otherwise wouldn't had. I generally like to form my opinion first, especially with a film this big.

Funnily enough, I enjoyed this film, even if I did not think it was good. I enjoyed it the way I enjoy watching films like the Transporter, or (yelp!) Fast and Furious. I found those shows fun for the sheer audacity of them, but I know they are hardly good films.

Here I enjoyed the film because, I have never seen a live action Batman fight as brutally and as flowing as that. I never saw a live adaptation of Wonder Woman that fierce. And then Batman and Superman fought... Something I enjoyed in the comics brought to life in the big screen. I enjoyed every second of those. But the film as a whole, its story, its execution, were off. They simply tried to cram too many things (good things when taken in isolation) into one film and the overall lack of focus really hurt the film in my mind.

Well, since you actually saw the movie and gave your brother an honest assessment of it, then he obviously respects your opinion and made a choice that was right for him. No harm in that.

I agree with you that the film is somewhat bloated. There are certainly things I would have liked to have seen cut/changed. However, just like you, I truly enjoyed the movie overall for many of the reasons you listed and more. I must say after seeing this twice now, I'm anxiously awaiting the JL movie. B vs S certainly wet my beak in anticipation of the JL movie.

The DCU just isnt appealing to everyone and verse versa for the Marvel Universe. Nothing wrong with that.

Of course, we all like what we like. I'd label myself more of a Marvel fan but I do enjoy DC comics. I collected a lot of comics from both companies over the years.

That shot of Batman and Superman in the rain is awesome. For the longest time I thought Affleck had the armor CGIed on to him. Dunno if it was initial reports that got me thinking that or what.

The regular suit and armored anti-Superman suits are by far the best live action costumes for Batman to date.

I prefer Marvel comics over DC. For some reason, DC books really dont mesh with me (other than the Batman series and similar books). But comics are a pain in the ass now with all of these reboots. Which, has made me appreciate other companies like Image more and more.

Bvs is not an overall success, and the people losing their minds are the ones who can't accept it. Overall success means popular, profitable and critically acclaimed. It's divisive, so barely popular at best. It's going to be profitable, but I'm pretty sure expectations weren't met, and let's not get into the critics.
So not a flop or failure at all, but a marginal success for "the greatest gladiator match".

No, that's your definition of success. Most people consider it the fact of getting or achieving wealth, respect, or fame and considering most did enjoy the film and it made butt loads of money, I rest my case.

Can anyone honestly say with a straight face that BvS deserves a rotten 29% while THOR TDW (66%), IRON MAN 2 (72%) & IRON MAN 3 (79%) deserve Certified Fresh reviews?

It scored lower than Affleck's Daredevil, Eric Bana's Hulk, and Batman Forever. There's no reasonable argument that BvS is even close to as bad as any of those. Much less worse. Whatever you might think of the movie ... there's clearly a problem with the RT rating.

I guess you mis-directed that post, and it was intended for me?
Mods, this is highly offensive to me as an Irish man, or any other Irish person. Please deal with accordingly?

I mean is this what this place has come to now? Racist verbal attacks on entire countries over a stupid ****ing superhero movie. These idiots need to go.

Thanks.
Rory

For the record, I only pointed out that you were Irish because the dude tried to turn this **** political by saying something about you voting for one of the American presidential candidates, and I was pointing out that said argument was highly unlikely considering you weren't even American. I had no ill intentions, and no idea he was gonna be a **** about it.

That pretty much describes me as well. I am a DC fan and I do read older stuff all the time, but my DC "favourites" pool is relatively small when compared to my Marvel one. For example, I love Batman, the New Gods, the Authority (and especially Midnighter) plus the Vertigo stuff, but I have only a passing interest in Green Lantern, Flash, Booster Gold, the Legion of Superheroes and whatnot. With Marvel I love pretty much every character, from X-51 to Elsa Bloodstone. It's just that their tone appeals to me more, you know?

But as far as modern comics go, none of the Big 2 are doing anything unique apart from a few series. The last great books I read from both of them were: Hickman's New Avengers (his Avengers was boring as hell though), Orlando's Midnighter, Ellis' Moon Knight, Snyder's Batman and... that's it, actually. I liked Green Lantern, Superior Spider-Man and the like, but they were pretty standard. As far as their current output goes, Marvel has more range, both thematically and character wise, which I like. Again, this is just my personal opinion, and it's all subjective. Rebirth looks good, but rather tame. Priest on Deathstroke is gold for example, but Baz & Cruz get a buddy cop book while Guy/Hal/John/Kyle share just one book?! Man, get out of here with this crap...

Either way though, Image, Valiant, Titan, Dark Horse and all the other, smaller publishers, mostly blow them out of the water. Marvel has the excellent Ultimates and Black Panther and DC still has Grayson and Justice League, but the indies are killer. East of West, Black Science, James Bond, Ninjak, Bloodshot, Imperium, Southern *******s, etc, etc. Indies are far too geat these days, to the point that my Big 2 pull has started shrinking, a lot...

PS: In yesterday's ImageExpo Hickman announced "The Black Monday Murders" and I'm hella excited! I also can't wait for the new Warhammer 40k ongoing this September.

I totally understand what your saying. I have this stigma when it comes to DC characters that I dont know where it came from but I just feel like the heroes are either too strong or really lame. This kept me from reading a lot of DC books growing up but watched the Batman and Superman animated series.

Yeah, nothing really new. Same old stories retold just with different characters. I do like Doctor Strange and Vision though.

All you can do is find some good books and support them.

I feel bad for DC that this movie isn't likely to make as much money as they hoped. I thought it was a good film and I'm glad the box office isn't halting their production on this universe.

Wonder Woman remains my most hyped film for next year. :rock
