Job Williams, a film editor who has made a name for himself re-cutting films to get to the heart of the story, has put together a two and a half hour movie using both “Man of Steel” and “Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice”.

Williams explains, “Man of Tomorrow is a narrative experiment that combines Man of Steel and Batman v Superman into one film. The goal was to use material from both films to form a single, feature-length, 3-act structure that focuses on Superman. I decided to try to combine material from both films, focusing on their strengths and streamlining the narrative to the rise and fall of Superman.”

“Since I started with Man of Steel (2.2 hrs) and Batman v Superman: Ultimate Edition (3 hrs), keeping the running-time down to 2.5 hours was no small task. A lot of plot wasn’t used (most of the Krypton sequence, the Smallville fight, the Africa subplot, the jar of pee…), but because the major threads that lead to the 3rd act of Batman v Superman came directly from the battle in Metropolis (the crashed Kryptonian ship, the Kryptonite from the world engine, Batman’s distrust of Superman’s power) I chose to hone in on those story points as the core of the narrative for Man of Tomorrow. Several scenes were reordered or reworked to fit the new narrative structure and better weave the material from the the two films together. For example: Batman/Bruce Wayne is introduced in the 1st act, Superman doesn’t put on his suit until Zod appears, Lex Luthor interacts with the Kryptonian ship earlier, the dour shots of Superman’s heroism from BvS are used much more optimistically, and the flashback to Pa Kent’s death is utilized very differently, just to name a few changes to the structure.”

If they cut some of Lex's scenes, DD, and end the film with the BvS fight, it would be a good Batman movie.

It would still need something for Superman to do after the fight with Batman but FFS not Doomsday. What a waste.

One thing I decided when watching the Senate scene again is that I don't think it was pee in the jar. I think for that scene to be feasible Lex would have had to have filled it with apple juice or actual tea just to mess with her. Otherwise whoever "filled" that jar would have had to have been very dehydrated. I mean if that was urine then it was some dark "early morning" piss in a huge jar with no lid that would have been freaking nasty to smell for everyone sitting up at the bench.

The smell might have tipped off Supes from across the room that something was "off" too. I think it was juice.

And regarding Ben's butt shot, you know randomly enough it was just one more little thing that made it feel more like an 80's throwback movie (in a good way, IMO). You've got references to TDK (1986), Batman killing (Batman 1989) and now the butt shot which was a time honored staple featured in many macho guy flicks (Terminator, Lethal Weapon, Tango & Cash, like 50 Jean-Claude Van Damme films, etc.) So in that regard it didn't bother me.

There's actually two references to '89 Batman I think.

When the Batmobile first appears and turns over the first henchmen car, it's leaving a warehouse called Nicholson Terminal & Dock Co.

During the warehouse fight Batman grapple hooks through the henchmen's shoulder and sends him flying into that hole in the floor. In '89, Batman did the same thing albeit less violent (it went through the shoulder of the thug's jacket, not through his meat and bones ) with his grapple gun and suspended the guy from the hole in the catwalk floor.

Yeah, plus the Batwing being destroyed was also a tradition from Batman 89 that every Batfilm featuring an aerial vehicle has copied since.

I loved that he referred to his costume as "the suit" and didn't have a closet full of them.

Another "80's moment" was him grabbing the guy through the wall RoboCop-style (though maybe he did that in the TDK comic too which would have predated Murphy by a year, I can't remember.)

I also really liked that one moment in the warehouse fight (okay there's a million moments in that sequence that were awesome) when he let out that amplified howl of pain when the one guy stabbed him. Made it seem like they were all battling a Predator or something.

Yeah, like that one howl when one of the thugs shoot him point blank in the head.

You boys are missing the few notes from the 89 theme when he's looking at the costume in the round chamber.

Nah man, not that! Something like a Knight that is getting ready for battle. Lord of the Rings/Braveheartesque.

You can see it hanging there unfinished and Alfred working on parts of it, I'm surprised they didn't show him putting it on with that Batman theme they had, maybe after the cross fit bro training and kryptonite creating scenes.

Just watched the extended version. Did enjoy it more than I did when I saw it at the cinema, but there are still so many problems with it that I just can't get to like it. Hopefully Justice League is better, because I do really like most of the cast.

I can see that people might have preferred that but I think that the instant reveal was the way to go. I think it came right after Martha Kent was abducted in the alley and them boom (a literal crack of thunder) and him standing there looking up at the sky. The Russos had originally storyboarded Ant-Man going from normal sized to 10 feet tall, to 20 feet, and then 50 feet throughout the course of the airport fight and then it occurred to them that they were kind of spoiling the excitement of the full reveal and elected to have him go from normal size right to the full 50 feet in an instant. Of course they also didn't give away his look in the trailers while we were already expecting the armored suit in BvS.

But still, I liked the thunderclap moment and while I think that it *might* have worked with a preceding "suit-up" moment it also might have been a bit much to follow a training montage with a suit-up montage. I think Rocky IV is still the only film in history to do back to back montages.
