Re: Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice

I think submariner is a property attached to fantastic four and therefore a part of fox.

Apparently, and sadly, Namor is held by no other major Marvel movie company. A shame because he's such a great character, and could fit in well with either Fox or Marvel Studios:

Aquaman story: https://badassdigest.com/2014/08/12/aquaman-is-getting-a-solo-movie/

What will the Aquaman movie be? At this point it's anybody's guess since there are at least two scripts in development, but it could debut as early as 2016, which is when the first of the untitled DC Movies are scheduled. I have heard that in BvS Aquaman's story is tied closely to the oceanic World Engine, which we'll learn wreaked havoc on Atlantis. I can see a story coming out of that - Arthur/Orin fighting to take his rightful place on the throne of Atlantis after his father is killed by the World Engine, a real palace intrigue story. Beat The Inhumans to the Game of Thrones vibe, but underwater.

Re: Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice

So I've read WB gets these almost-in house writers to write a draft plot and then they get the real writers? According to some sites, one of those guys wrote the 1st JL draft and obviously got rewritten by Goyer and then by Terrio.

So it appears it's a standard procedure.

Also, I've been reading they did the same with Guardians?

Because those 2 names don't sound at all promising.

Re: Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice

Aquaman sounds like a farce to the general public. It's kind of hilarious, actually, in that the most popular misconception about the character comes from some relatively obscure cartoons from the late '60s/early '70s, but, in all honesty, there's a fascinating mythology to that character. I mean it; in a day and age where epics like The Lord of the Rings Trilogy and Game of Thrones are at the top of the food chain, and the public's open minded enough to make a relatively mediocre sci-Fi movie about blue people one of the highest grossing films of all time, if WB and DC got their **** together and made an elaborate series of films about Aquaman, we're talking big bucks. He also has the advantage of having an established myth in Atlantis to bring people in.

I'm talking about a full-blown, fantasy epic here. Atlantean magic, mass conflicts involving the Atlantean army, Arthur discovering who he is and reclaiming his rightful place atop the throne of Atlantis, and then you have his conniving brother and that betrayal, and there are just so many possibilities. That's one character where DC should only examine the superhero elements in team-up movies and focus on the mythology and his place as a leader in the solo films.

Re: Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice

I hope Marvel rushes a Submariner movie by 2016 just to spite them.

Re: Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice

I actually think this is one case where I don't know if they can do that. I'm pretty sure Universal had the film rights to Namor, from what I read.

Kevin Feige has said in an interview they've since gotten the rights back.

Re: Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice

Well, still, why would they want to spite DC? And why would you want them to? Feige has always been civil and supportive, and I respect that kind of professionalism. I actually wish WB/DC's executives would take their cues from that guy. You don't see him putting movies head to head with DC's. He only took their July spot for Ant-Man once they'd already packed their stuff and moved on. Point is: more comic book movies are good for everybody, and Feige's said that before. There are 52 weeks in a year, and, at most, two movies from each studio in that time span, providing, of course, that DC is able to get their **** together and actually follow through on their schedule of release dates, but, still, there's plenty of room for both studios to do good business without stepping on each other's toes.

Re: Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice

It was a joke. I'm supportive of WB for finally trying to branch out. But if I was Marvel and owned the world's FIRST aquatic superhero, I'd definitely consider beating the competition to the punch.

Outrageous!

I’ve been waiting for a Submariner movie for about 10 years now.
