Christian Bale Talks Ben Affleck As BATMAN And Whether He Contemplated A Return

Despite the voice, Christian Bale is widely considered to be the best big screen Batman to date, and Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice star Ben Affleck has a lot to live up to after the British actor's superb take on the iconic DC Comics superhero in Christopher Nolan's The Dark Knight Trilogy. Talking about his upcoming movie with Sir Ridley Scott (Exodus: Gods and Kings) in the latest issue of Empire Magazine, Bale was asked to compare the role of Moses to Batman. "It's a little embarrassing to compare Moses to Batman," Bale laughed. "There are similarities, you know, tragic beginning and then a heroic future. But Moses is a little more violent. I'm sure if there'd been guns around at that time, Bruce Wayne might have had a chance."

As for how he felt to learn that Gone Girl's Ben Affleck had been cast as the superhero in Zack Snyder's Man of Steel follow-up, it sounds as if he was as shocked as the rest of us! "I've got to admit initially, even though I felt that it was the right time to stop, there was always a bit of me going, 'Oh go on... Let's do another.' So when I heard there was someone else doing it, there was a moment where I just stopped and stared into nothing for half an hour." It's not clear whether the offer was ever there to return in Batman v Superman or if he's referring to another movie with Nolan, especially as there were always rumours that Bale was being looked at to reprise the role (despite the continuity headaches that would have caused). "But I'm 40," he adds. "The fact that I'm jealous of someone else playing Batman...I think I should have gotten over it by now. I haven't spoken with Ben, but I emailed him offering bits of advice that I learned the hard way. I would imagine he is doing everything he can to avoid anything that I did." Thoughts?

Re: Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice

I bet it was about asking for a zipper on his costume so he could P. Freely :lol

:lol :lol :lol

I really liked every live action version of Batman to date with the exception of George Clooney’s Batman, I doubt I’ll hate Batfleck but I hope he’s more than just a good Batman.

Re: Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice

a) - Keaton is the best Batman

b) - Bale is Welsh, not British

c) - wasn't it Superman that borrowed fairly blatantly from the Moses story?

...

Pointless - & ill informed article. :lol

Re: Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice

I thought the point of the article was to inform us on Bale’s feelings not being Batman anymore, and if he considered continuing on after TDKR :dunno

Re: Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice

Wasn't that already asked of him / milled around adnauseum till now anyway? :lol

I haven’t read any articles about it but there probably were a few I guess, its also cool to know he reached out to Ben Affleck giving him advice.

Re: Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice

Someday, I want to see a multiverse Batman film where the likes of Keaton, Bale, Affleck etc. meet.

Just those three since, well, they're the only ones that seem kinda/sorta interested. West is old as **** and doesn't do films. Clooney wants nothing to do with Batman. Kilmer, I don't even know what he's doing. Throw in Conroy Animated Batman (Who Framed Roger Rabbit/Space Jam style) and you have a billion dollar movie.
