Society only cares about special people Alex.

People who need their cars to run are mere peasants with whom society may dispense.

Who gives a **** about society except for sycophants and power lusters?

So, you don't care about the future state of society? You don't want to help it? To better it? I do. You don't strive to be in a position where you can implement change? Imagine what a normal, down to earth person could do if they were in a position to truly help people and not care about the money aspect of it.

Those people have done more to **** up the lives of people who are simply content to live their own lives than anyone else in history. Did I mention sycophants and power lusters? You can add narcissists and the ethically myopic to that list.

Correction...only small minded/narcissistic people within society see it that way. There are quite a few people that look around and see and appreciate what they do.

:wink1:

Society is a nameless, imaginary power that alleges to represent everyone when it actually represents no one. People value other people. The concept 'society' is an excuse for some to sacrifice others to their own idea of how people should be.

Then what about the one person that doesn't **** up? What about the one person who can fix things? I don't think it boils down to being narcissistic or ethical myopia or even power lusters. Sure throughout history it has, but throughout history there have been individuals who had good intentions and held true to those. Sure, those type of people are far and few through the years, but, if one has the right oppurtunity and raised in the right circumstances, they can rise above those mental setbacks of narcissism, power lusting, etc.... and actually help.

I see it both ways :dunno

Do I like and appreciate the person who made this delicious Big Mac sandwich? Yes.
Will it matter what they did in ten years? No.

Partially joking on this.... just to be clear...

Meanwhile, ChunkyZergling is probably wondering what does this all means to me. What are you up to now ChunkyZergling?

Contentless gibberish. The unnamed deeds of unnamed people have done more to make other people's live better than anyone. I'll take one good neighbor over 100 Gandhi's any day. The exceptional individuals who have advanced the lot of everyday people the most weren't doing it for any other reason than to satisfy their own passion.

How do you define "advanced the lot of everyday people." What means were they advanced?

I get what you're saying but ultimately it boils down to the individual and what they will do with the time given them (with everything in life).Sometimes a person's job has a direct impact on bettering while others have touch points/enable a person to do better things too (with some never even realizing their importance in the bigger picture). We all have our little footprint on the planet to do good/decent things within it and in turn acknowledge the importance of what so many others do with their footprint. Of course...all just my opinion and how I see some of the world.

How do you define "advanced the lot of everyday people." What means were they advanced?

Aristotle defined the laws of logic, giving all people a valid means of forming conclusions. Copernicus figured out the math on terrestrial-solar spatial relationships. Kepler discovered laws of planetary motion. Newton discovered universal laws of motion for macroscopic bodies.

They did something useful, i.e. work that no one else needs to do, beyond learning what they discovered. There would be no advanced machinery if someone hadn't. Without the machines we used to get to where we are now, people would not have the added value of time spent not doing gross physical labor that used to consume their short lives. For starters.

Trade schools or skipping college is fine.... not good advice in my opinion for various reasons.... but does anyone actually get a job to be proud of it? Or have a job where you make a real difference? A job where what you do actually matters? Or is it all about the money? I mean, money is nice and all.... but at the end of the day I don't know how (and I don't mean to be mean, just my opinion) anyone could be proud doing a job millions upon millions do around the world like working at Starbucks or mechanic or any other "generic" job that in the small grand scheme of life... literally means nothing where the point of your existence.... becomes non-existent. Where whatever job one did year after year... becomes meaningless.

I want a job that is unique to only a few. A job that actually makes a difference and matters.

Good for you in wanting a job that has attached to it a degree of exclusivity, but don't automatically presume that whatever it is you decide to do will 'matter' or 'make a difference' any more than the job of barista or mechanic. You're not being mean in presuming this, you're being naive. Why do you presume that someone who works on your car isn't proud of what they're doing? Would you prefer to have your coffee made or have your car serviced by someone who thinks their station is beneath them, or by someone who takes pride in their work?

The woman who works 16 hours a day sewing people's clothes and scrubbing people's toilets so she can afford to give her children the opportunities she never had, and the chance to pursue dreams she will never realise... is hers a job that doesn't matter and doesn't make a difference?

The man who gathers supermarket trollies in the carpark so he doesn't resort to stealing to support his heroin habit - is his a job that doesn't matter and doesn't make a difference?

Or the guy who pushes a broom all week because he is comfortable in the expectations of the job and gets left alone to daydream about the weekend when he gets to go fishing?

It's up to you to give your work meaning and make it matter, not the other way round.

ChunkyZergling is confused. He's going back to play more Dark Souls 3. Chunky's sorcerous needs more intellect, vigor, and attunement is he is going to progress.

See this is what I like about you. I could never put in words what you did here. It would either come out nonsensical or hostile. Very well done.

I would like to add one of the most important jobs out there that most people wouldn't think of doing. Garbage men. Can you imagine what it would be like if we didn't have men and women who took on this dirty, smelly, back breaking work? It would get bad real quick. Thank you Mr. and Miss garbage collecter (real men of geeeeniuuus)

I don't know if it's been asked because I haven't read every posting, but are you just venting about your employment situation or are you accepting of suggestions regarding changing the same?

I was just venting and then received a lot of suggestions of which I am already aware. And, many of the replies are so long I haven't read them.

WEEJedi is in for a very rude awakening when real life hits him in the face. He still has the naive outlook on his future that a lot of young people have until they actually experience life on their own. Wanting to be unique is a disease that has infected an entire generation that has been told by everyone that they are special. I interview people in their 20's all the time and the vast majority of them don't want an entry-level job--regardless of their actual qualifications. They want big money for the least amount of work and if you don't give it to them then you don't see how smart/talented/personable/experienced they really are and it's your loss. Except, not really.

Some good stuff being posted here.

There wont be an awakening when u have a wealthy family to fall back on.
Coming from wealthy family is not bad, but that naive mindset you guys are talking about will never end. Wee might probably have the mind of a teen forever. Just look at justin bieber...
