I really like all big chief's Dr Who stuff and am very interested in their Sherlock figures. I hear that their stuff gets delayed a lot, is this common with them, I'm unfamiliar with their process from showing proto to production pics.

The first figure was a little delayed - Doctor #11 (Matt Smith)

Their second figure was delayed almost from the start when the body they had agreed upon was either changed or different on inspection from how they ordered it, so they had source another totally new body. Then they had to move manufacturing to an entire other factory, then there was also some kind of delay over the likeness which required alot of detrimental reworking - producing a headsculpt that did not look like the character or even that actress. The initial proto head was not brilliant but I would have taken one of them (unadjusted) any day of the week. This was during the production of the figure of Amy Pond

And now we are waiting for the arrival of #10 (David Tennant) and #4 (Tom Baker) to come into stock - ie arrive from China - and get 'final invoiced' and shipped. There have been some smaller delays in these last two but not anything like with Amy, BCS' series of unfortunate happenings really piled up on that poor figure.

The two Sherlock figures have been seen as proto heads by most (on facebook) and as full figures by some, at shows and events around the UK. The PO is due soon and you can register for priority pre-order here

Sherlock Priority PO...

Thanks so much for all the info, so is the David Tennant still available to be preordered through them or is my only hope secondary market? I know there was some kind of exclusive but are they also planning a regular release of, and what is the difference between the two if so, apologies if all these questions have been asked but it's very hard reading this entire thread for that specific info, very interested in adding some Doctors to my collection.

As I understand it, #10/Tennant is totally sold out bar a few they will take to sell at shows and conventions etc. This was only available to buy via their own website, as it was tied in to the whole 50th Anniversary celebration. As was the #4/Tom Baker figure.

It seem like the only figure left to buy is the Amy Pond figure at the moment.

A lot of people were a bit put off by ordering from BCS's site only...many international buyers purchased the Matt Smith and Amy figures from BBTS. As I don't know where you are, here are the BBTS links...

...for the #11 Doctor.

...and for Amy Pond.

And two from Forbidden Planet International,

For Amy Pond

The 11th Doctor

There may be a few others with him still in stock but these are the first that came to my mind. I hope this helps you out.

I cannot help but sense this is one of those 'I don't want to have to explain that to my kids' issues, as in you do not like the fact the move speaks to the existence of sex swaps in real life.

I won't have any problem quoting Germaine Greer's opinion on so-called 'sex swaps' to my children in a few years time when it's appropriate to discuss such things with them.

Blue suit? Hell, yeah, the more colour on an action dolly the better.

So do you feel the need for the blue suit too if they were to do a variant? It's not as drastic a change as Smith in his last season - which I really want.

Personally I didn't even notice when Tennant changed suits.

I wouldn't mind the blue suit as long as the sculpts were different, younger preferably.

It'd be perfect next to the older 50th Anniversary version that'll come out already.

Hmm, actually I thought the 50th version sculpt is quite young looking. I think the blue suit version should come with a more mature looking sculpt with longer/wider sideburns based on his Series 4 & Specials look. Personally would prefer that, not interested in baby Tennant with neatly combed hair from his first 3-4 eps.

I've been out of this thread a while...

A woman could very much behave like James Bond and it's been talked about before. Angelina Jolie in Salt was compared to Bond afterall.
It doesn't happen on screen, it's more of an anomoly when all the pieces come together. But to suggest that it couldn't happen, that a women couldn't use violent means and her sexual prowess to get her way is idiotic.
Bond being a male is not essential. It's the way it is and people don't like change. The character's sex could be interchangable quite easily.
But this changes the audience of a film.

Doctor Who being a male isn't essential either. But again, it would change the audience. It's a gamble that doesn't have to be risked.
The show isn't dependant on the Doctor being a man. It's dependant on the adventure.

Or running, if RTD has his say.

NOW....

The blue suit isn't a necessity, but I do prefer it to the one we're getting. Just a different HS (not that the one it has isn't good, it's great) to differentiate it from the 50th Anniversary one.

Sure, recast the Doctor as female.

And Batman - Batman should be played by a woman in the next movie.

Superman - clearly anyone who thinks Superman can't be played by a woman is sexist. And he's an alien, so, like, if you disagree then just **** off.

Thor - hell yeah, Thor is a god just as the Doctor is an alien so clearly they should consider casting a woman as Thor in Thor 3 (and the next Avengers movie, with Nicola 'Nick' Fury).

Iron Man? An insult to women everywhere. Replace Downey Jr with a woman (just think of the suit possibilities - can't wait to see her guns).

What about Jesus - who says He couldn't become a She?

As for my Tennant figure, I demand that the figure be dressed in something less gender specific. I don't want anyone thinking that I'm some kind of archaic, phallo-centric mysoginist.

Now if you'll excuse me, I've got to talk to some friends about their feelings, take a nice long bath and then sit down to watch a movie about relationships.

For each of those characters, continuity of gender is important. Bond being a man is a fundamental constant to the narrative, while Bond as a character is a constant despite the many actors who have assumed the role. I'm only a casual fan of Who, but isn't it true that when a timelord regenerates, they can regenerate into any species they choose? This creates an entirely different premise for gender change that is entirely within the rules of the narrative world the Doctor inhabits.

Well,

THOR = Thora
LOKI = Lokette
RDJ = Roberta Downey jr
Jesus = Shesus?

But then think of the other options, we could have Nate Romanov as the Black Widower...

Hey it even works with Dr Who characters...

Romana = Romano

But it isn't a part of the established universe. That's laughably the point a lot of people seem to miss. It has never happened in 50 years. And what, it's supposed to happen now on the say-so of some pseudo-neofeminists? Not likely. The reason I used that final example was to show that Romana (a female that regenerates) regenerates into female forms, as did River Song and so - you assume - do The Rani and all the rest of the female Time Lords. One race, two genders. Long lives? Certainly, but still two genders.

The one and only single time it is mentioned as otherwise, it's as an 'oooher missus' throwaway gag-line...

Now does someone want to start a new series about the adventures of a female Time Lady as she scuttles about the universe saving the day? I'd watch it, and I dare say good few DW fans would watch it too. It would certainly add a new slant on how things turned out and I for one would certainly give it a go.

But let's not go crazy retcon-ing Doctor Who's entire history for (what I suspect would be) the sake of just a tiny minority. Beside which, I'm sure that the actual real Feminists have much more important things to worry about than the gender of Doctor Who.

I'd love to see a River spin-off with her and Capt. Jack popping around the universe causing sexual havoc wherever they land.

But you're right - a blue suit variant would need a different head sculpt - maybe something stern - "I've given you your chance..." look.

To be fair, Jesus was probably a real person. Would be a lot harder to justify a gender change.

Well, I actually aimed my response as more of a joke reply to Cap:B than anything else.

There is historical evidence from Flavius Josephus, two references in his works, that Jesus as an actual person did really exist.

Anyhow.. from now on I am not wandering :offtopic: if at all possible.

Starpuffs, if you want to continue our part of this thread then it will have to be PMs from now on please.
