Super Freak
I really agree with all that guys points. I love the game but he hit the nail on the head about the inclusion of vigors and the comparison to plasmids in rapture.

Except there is a big differance and I can do this with virtually everything he complained about so I'd disagree bigtime with him.
Heres the differance : In Rapture plasmids are purely made as a drug to take for casual use. They have embraced Science to the point where there are no limits and they put too much trust in regular citizens who abuse and become addicted to the plasmids.
In Columbia, Fink steals vigors from Tennenbaum and Rapture by viewing them through the tears and they are designed to be used as tools for professionals in certain fields, not casual drugs for anyone.
Shock Jockey is designed to replace the electric company, devil's kiss is used by the fireman to fight fire with fire or light boilers and furnaces. They are all implemented for practical use rather than as a luxury alchoholic beverage.
Murder of crows is one of the first newer vigors offered to the public, (not by Fink) but again as a tool for self defence.
The regular citizens don't use or abuse these things the same way they don't employ skyhooks as a form of transportation. It's the more extreme pleasure seekers who start using the the matience skyhooks and thats what gives the police the idea to form the flying squad. This is why you don't bump into any regular people with powers aside from Slate who only takes the Shock Jockey when he finds out you want it.
In Rapture they reject religion and embrace science and mankind as there own "gods" even though Andrew Ryan would disagree with that and thats why Rapture ultimately falls.
In Columbia they embrace religion and the Prophet uses science against them by convincing them science is actually miracles he's performing. He's not having angelic visions, he's using Lutece's scientific knowlege to open tears and view the future that way.
What it comes down to is it seems all the people complaining missed alot, and I mean alot of information and plot elements, likely just run and gunning through in a few hours like this is a typical Call of Duty. I don't see how they couldn't have, the games been out about a week, I'm on my 3rd playthrough and still discovering small elements of information myself.
I see this as more art than game, which I'd probably only say about a handful of other games.

One issue I had with that is, don't tears look into other worlds / timelines?
I might have missed something, but I didn't think tears could look into the same world, especially not the future.

Yes you missed alot, they can indeed be used to see or travel into their own future. They can also be wishes, Elizabeth's thoughts made reality. Thus Chen-Lin, the revolution and quite possibly the existance of Rapture are all things created out of the need for convienace that end up having a residial ripple effect throughout the timelines. Comstocks already dying from viewing the tears so often, first rendered sterile and eventually riddled with tumors that are killing him.
You of course realise the Luteces aren't even alive on our astral plain I take it? They've been dead over a year at Comstock's hands and they use a machine similar to a telegraph with morse code to move the living (you) through the various tears until Liz comes along who can manipulate them herself.
