Bought this movie last night to watch with the wife. We were both sleeping after a half an hour.

This film is why I upgraded my TV to a 4K.....

It’s cerebral , which is why some people say it’s slow....it’s a thinking film, where the audience has to work to understand the characters motives and emotions....

The original was the same way after the dialogue was removed.

It’s a film that does not feel the need to spell out every single emotion or give huge musical cues or tons of exposition to lay out what’s going on inside the minds of the characters.

We need more films like this and less with every detail laid out like only a 10 year old is watching.

Can not wait to watch it next week with my son.

Yes it's mindboggling that this film got the budget and care that it did and I'm sure WB is kicking themselves for doing it but their admirable loss will forever be our gain.

I am happy that the studios over estimated what the box office would do only because the budget was huge and the filmmakers got to have their vision on screen and not compromised. The box office failure stings pretty badly, but it does assure that we won't get "10 more Blade Runner sequels with prequels and sequels being planned" which would also run the risk of getting into the hands of lesser filmmakers. I am happy with two Blade Runner films that are of the quality we have and will go down as a perfect duo of films that will be studied for decades to come.

My friends are so sick of my gushing over Blade Runner 2049 and I don't care. If some of them see it eventually say "meh" I know who to cut off from the Christmas card list.

Spoken like a real man

Watched this last night and I’m in the corner of a very well done film on many levels.

90% was great, 10% average equaling one of the better films from last year imo.

Dillly Dillly....🤒

So my translation of your words means that 11% of BR 2049 > 100% TLJ....correct me if I'm wrong please

Hate to break it, but the only study would be for the what-NOT-to-do.

This film will appear as must see for certain film courses...fact...I know a guy in NYU that's gonna do that this spring ..I think you must have been thinking TLJ...lol

From a financial perspective maybe, not filmmaking. Financially both films were disappointments, the original only getting out of its hole after years of home video and becoming a classic through reissues and people who study film. 2049 will have the same fate I believe: eventually it will recoup its cost.

And honestly that doesn't matter except films like it getting studios to back them. 2049 was made and done. It's future success will be determined by word of mouth and film fans making their friends watch it. It's not a look at "what not to do" but a look at "what intellectual and cerebral science fiction looks like" and "why great movies fail: the decline of the human brain"

Here's another..."Why crappy films succeed, the decline of the human brain 101"..lots of discussion can be made about that...TLJ itself could be a college course, just one example of course...fast furious, transformers,etc... lol

I think there’s room for both types to breath.

I love watchmen (or more recently BvS :D) but if every CB flick was done like that than it too would loose its edge, for example.

I also love Watchmen and enjoyed BvS...just can't see how i could love 2049 and TLJ....total opposites for me ...2049 enhances Blade Runner beautifully. ..while TLJ put Star Wars at a new low...all IMHO of course lol

well with SW you have almost 10 films now to compare to and choose from. or ignore. :lol
liking TLJ is just accepting what SW is now, if that’s what you choose.

There’s only BR and 2049.
