Thanks guys. Im pretty happy how this has turned out and its quite a drastic improvement from straight out the box.
Im quite a comfortable painter but to be honest, anyone can tackle the cuts so dont let it worry you.
Just by adding a brighter red over the wounds will improve this.
What i do when I apply the paint, instead of brush stroking the paint on, I blot the paint. By that I mean load your brush, then dab the paint on in a downward motion as if you were painting dots. what happens is the brush hair will separate creating better depth and more texture. Have a look at the cuts on google images and use them for reference. you will probably need a few coats. Also do this with a very small brush like a 0 or 00.
If you make a mistake or dont like what you have done, just wipe it away with a damp cloth.
If you want to create runs, once you have applied the cuts, just use the brush with a little water, no paint , and brush the paint down using the water.
The sweat can be done 2 ways. You can use gloss varnish or 5 min epoxy. If your not confident, stay away from the epoxy. Thats what I used on mine but its a bit tricky and you have to work to the clock and keep repeating the process. I can let you know how its done if anyone wants to try and needs help.
The gloss is much easier and will look fine. Basically once everthing is dry, just gloss the wounds or parts of the wound you want to look wet and thats about it. If you want to add more sweat, use the gloss and again just dab on small dots to creates droplets here and there , to however wet you want it to look.
If you want to make sweat drips, again with the small brush, over load the brush with the gloss and put it to an area you want to make the run and basically let the gloss naturally fall down the statue.
I havnt done this on mine but iv done this before and it worked fine. Just keep in mind the scale of the statue in relation to the size of the brush to create the run.
Before you do this, always just have a little pratice on some card or something and feel comfortable with the paint and brush.
Like I say , just freshening up the cuts with a lighter red and not having them so neat and tidy will vastly improve this.
Hope this helps
