He's right about one thing. People will ***** because that's pretty much all people do on the internet.
 
^^^^ Human Centipede 2 was even worst. The most disturbing movie I have ever seen. I highly not recommend it! Meaning watching it....and ask yourself why am I watching this!
 
I will see this and await the awesome 3D effects...nothing still beat that dept like the first Avatar...I enjoyed it for what it was

4K 3D effects for the sequels.... that'll be fun but I can't see theaters upgrading to 4K projectors just for Avatar 2

Hey even if it's done as well as the first Avatar I'll be Ok with it...It was spectacular...4K would be interesting but I dont live in NYC anymore and Large major centers would be the only locations for those...probrably a $20 or more movie ticket price as well. At this point in the game I just wanna see the World of Pandora. Not even thinking about story, plot, etc. who cares LOL

surprisingly my cinema has got a 4K projector in their main screen room(300 seats), and we're talking medium sized town in the middle of Ireland. I still don't believe it :lol

I can see them exploring Pandora in the next one, it depends on the plot :rotfl. The only thing I'm thinking about now is how Jakes gonna react when he finds out about the Lysine contingency in those Avatar bodies :lol
 
Interesting interview with James Cameron in the December EMPIRE magazine.

He mentions his friendship with Peter Jackson that came out of using Weta for Avatar and he discusses HFR. Here's what he says about his take on 48 fps vs. PJ's:

When I was making Avatar, I consciously restrained myself from doing those kinds of wide landscape shots with pans in them because I knew they'd strobe, and strobing is more apparent in 3D. I'm still a proponent of [48 fps.] I also think I might use it a little differently than Peter. I don't think I'll apply it to the entire film any more than I would put music all the way through the film. I'll use it where I need to use it. If I have panning shots like that I'll use it on those shots, but I won't use it on everything. I don't think it's needed on everything. And I actually think there's a slight negative impact at times, where things look a little too hyper-real and you no longer feel like you're watching a movie, but you feel like you're watching reality.

And that reality is that you're on a soundstage with a bunch of people in make-up. Peter and I have talked about this and we have our theories. I'm going to try mine out and see if that works, and if that doesn't work, then it'll probably all fade away.

He's still thinking that he'll have Avatar 2 out December of next year.

He also confirmed that Terminator rights do revert back to him in 2019 and that if he does anything with them it'll basically be a full reimagining/reboot.
 
Unless he's feeling very nostalgic by then I don't see him doing anything at all with the Terminator rights. But man, imagine that, the time gap between his Terminator films - 1991 to 2019 - and that'd only be if he had already planned and organised in advance to make a new Terminator movie by 2019, otherwise it'd be even later than that.
 
Here are his exact words:

If I was going to get back into the Terminator world, it would have to be a very broad-stroke reconceptualisation. If you think about what Terminator is really about, it's about humans allowing their technology to move us into a trans-human world, so it's cyborgs, cybernetics, all that sort of thing. I would broadly reinterpret what that meant if I was to get excited about it. But I'm not really thinking in those terms right now.

In other words no Arnold fighting a T-1000 in Los Angeles for the 57th time.
 
Yes he is avatar hype left long ago it is now 2015. I cant count how many times he kept saying he had a definate date set.

Cameron's one of my favorite directors, but oh man :slap. It's such a waste of his talent that he's committed to this single series that was inspired by Ferngully.

I would have really liked to see him branch out into other things. I wouldn't even mind a Terminator reboot in 2019...

I agree, Cameron has always had a handle on how to optimize film technology.

However...him ripping on the "hyper-real" look of 48 fps and stating that he'll only use it for certain scenes like landscape pans really makes me wonder. I know that to many people (maybe even most) that HFR is a bust but one thing that *I* hate is alternating formats in one movie like we've seen with a number of pseudo-IMAX films like TDK, TDKR, TF:AOE and GOTG. I don't care how cool IMAX looks, either do it 100% or don't do it at all.

The ONLY time I've ever seen IMAX done well was Catching Fire when Katniss entered the arena. The whole movie was 2.35:1 35mm and then as the screen went dark as she was lifted up the tube the format switched to IMAX and filled the screen when she emerged in the sun and stayed that way for the rest of the movie. THAT was awesome.

But the whole one shot 35 mm/one shot IMAX and then back again crap is jarring and I am constantly aware of it.

Getting back to HFR when I watch the Hobbit films, I know what I'm in for and get ready to watch Middle-Earth play out as if I was really on location or a soundstage with the actors and even creatures. I accept it, I enjoy it, and it's a consistent experience. I wonder if that's why PJ disagreed with his buddy and opted to shoot the entire trilogy that way.

I have a feeling that Cameron thinks he's going to be all sly with showing us how HFR can be done "properly" and that for me it'll just be another TDK where I'm going "24 fps, now 48, back to 24, and here's the 48 again" instead of just getting lost in the movie. I hope it's more seamless than that but honestly I think that the difference between 24 fps and 48 is much greater than the difference between 35 mm and IMAX and that it will be an even more jarring experience. We'll see.
 
If it is "done right" as he is implying, it shouldnt really be noticeable to most viewers. It sounds like he wants to use it for action shots and shots where the camera is moving fairly fast. A higher frame rate will reduce the blurriness and allow for cleaner slow motion. I think it can be done well in those instances, even using effects work to minimize the jarring "realness" of HFR.

I'm not a big fan of Cameron, but he does know technology, or at least employs people who do.
 
Not hating on Avatar, but I will say this...

How the mighty have fallen. To go from T2, one of the greatest movies of all time, to Avatar 1, 2, 3, 4, 5, 6, 7, 8, 9, 10...
