Well I'm glad that Cameron is admitting that he's basically just making animated movies now.

"We do performance capture work. You have to think of it more like an animated film, so it's not really shooting per se. It's a lot of performance capture work, so yeah, we're getting into that. It's top secret. Remember The Manhattan Project, did they talk about that?" he quipped.

'Avatar 2' updates: Cameron spills tidbits of 'top secret' sequel

I expect the Avatar sequels to not really be any different than The Lego Movie. Cartoons with a few minutes of live-action sprinkled in for effect.

I don't know what happened- Cameron used to do such great films but this GGI stuff has enveloped him like Zemeckis for years. After some huge flops Zemeckis went back to live action...however I don't know what Cameron's facination for several Avatar sequels is. He needs to see a primarily LIVE ACTION film TFA is now top dog of the box office...

So now he says FOUR Avatar sequels..is it me..or is this:cuckoo:

Yep. Now he's claiming Christmas 2018 will see the first sequel and then one every other year (which conveniently doesn't put his movies up against SW Episode 8 or 9 which will be out 2017 and 2019 respectively.) Though Parts 3 and 4 will apparently only be one year apart.

Fox ended its CinemaCon presentation in Las Vegas on Thursday with a surprise guest: James Cameron.

The filmmaker announced that there will be four "Avatar" sequels, not the previously planned three. "We have decided to embark on a truly massive cinematic process," he said.
Cameron said as he was planning the three sequels, he found it limiting. "We began to bump up against the limitations for our art form," he said, explaining that he decided he would need more installments to tell the whole story.

Cameron said each of the four sequels will be able to stand alone, but will together create a saga. His goal is to release "Avatar 2" at Christmas 2018 and then a new film in 2020, 2022 and 2023.
"I've been working the last couple of years with a team of four top screenwriters," he said, "to design the world of 'Avatar' going forward: The characters, the creatures, the environment, the new cultures.

"So far, the art I'm seeing, is in pure imagination, really far beyond the first film," he added. "It's going to be a true epic saga."

CinemaCon: James Cameron announces four 'Avatar' sequels - CNN.com

We'll see.

FFS, now it's 2018? When did the first film come out again? 2009?

This could go very very wrong for him. He'd better have something really special up his sleeve.

I'm sure next week he'll announce that there will actually be 10 sequels starting in 2020. And then that will jump to 30 sequels that will begin in 2022, etc.

I hate the first film.

As some of you know I am not a huge Cameron fan. I love T1 and Aliens then I would say his next best is T2 though I don't think it's the classic many others do.

After those three I could care less about Cameron's films. The Abyss has not aged well for me, True Lies was never all that good IMO, Titanic was good once..... Once. Then there was Avatar... Blah.. I find it funny that after it became the biggest movie of all time that there was some talk about it for about a year and then nobody mentions it. I don't think anyone really gives a hoot for a sequel.

Watch it make 2 billion :lol

He's lost it as far as I'm concerned. The need for ONE sequel is questionable but understood. FOUR? please explain why Fox will probably commit billions to these..I'm not buying it- one will be made then Fox will wait to see box office.

I'm flabbergasted.

Imagine if the next ones gets a 25% RT score.

He wants a line that makes him toys and keeps money coming in in perpetuity. He prolly wishes Alien & Terminator were his...

The Mattel Avatar toys were a collosal flop- it has no merchandise following- another reason it baffles me

You bet youre azz it'll make over a billion...The Abyss was great too

People won't care if it's 10 years in between movies

yup..agree...worldwide it'll make a killing...many here will see it including myself...hey it might be good..who knows...one way to find out....I've seen every Cameron film in the theater...why stop now LOL

Jeez, four sequels announced before the first sequel is even close to be released? :slap I didn't understand all the praise for the first one. Visually it looked great, but the story was unoriginal. Fans of the original will flock to the sequels regardless of the time in-between movies.

I really, really, REALLY tried to liked Avatar, even bought the Collector's Edition blu ray, but I just can't.
