I still think the backlash on Avatar has been a bit over-dramatic. Any time I've watched it I've still really enjoyed it, I simply don't require 4 sequels is all.

the haters are just trolling for attention. avatar was incredible. one of the best alien planets on any movie ever created. i cant take anyone that hated it seriously.
Bit of an expert on such behavior aren't you?

Seriously? I'd wager 90% of the Internet hates the movie. I rarely see anything positive said about it anywhere. Not sure what backlash you're speaking of

Christmas 2023 (when the 5th Avatar movie is released) James Cameron will be 69 years old. That will mark 26 years since his last "non-Avatar" film. He'll no doubt take some sort of sabbatical after making four movies back to back (probably 2-3 years at least) before even considering directing another film. By the time whatever new film gets made he'll be 75 or older. I'm guessing we'll maybe get one more original James Cameron film, and that's a big maybe.
Who would have guessed that after making The Terminator, ALIENS, The Abyss, Terminator 2, True Lies and Titanic every 2-3 years that for the rest of his life he'd make five movies about giant smurfs and that's it?

No surprise at this point. I started this thread almost 4 years ago (whoa!) based on the following quote from Cameron himself:
“Last year I basically completely disbanded my production company’s development arm. So I’m not interested in developing anything. I’m in the Avatar business. Period. That’s it. I’m making Avatar, Avatar 2, Avatar 3, maybe Avatar 4.” [Obviously, he meant "Avatar 2, Avatar 3, Avatar 4, maybe Avatar 5"]
Nothing in FOUR YEARS has changed (except a delay in these new Avatar films). So, yeah, we're most likely never getting a non-Avatar movie from him again.
