I'm assuming it's the former, the score removed from the film so the orchestra can play it instead?

I believe Star Wars and LOTR did concert tours a few years ago where they played scenes from the films on a big screen as a live orchestra played the scores but my understanding was that there was no audio for the footage other than the music. I'll be very curious to hear how they do it for ALIENS if you end up going.

Must have been extremely loud, overpowering the dialogue if there was any. But that's not what these are about.
I was close to going to the Star Wars concert just to be able to hear John Williams score being played live. Sadly I missed it.

Not really actually, the film was being played on big speakers all around the auditorium and the orchestra never overpowered the dialogue - they played at the right dynamics and matched the soundtrack recording (from what I could tell) near perfectly.

Soon it'll be 10 sequels that are set to begin filming after his death.

Well we're now officially less than two years from the newest release date of December 21, 2018 and not a single frame of footage has been shot. Considering he was going to shoot four films back to back (let alone post production work for the first sequel) I've got to imagine 2020 (since 2019 will see the release of Episode IX) is much more likely at this point.
