This Cap in particular kinda bugs me. I just think that this is a mix of WWII & ultimate Cap. It just feels like it's not totally one or the other. That's the main reason I'm passing on him. This is an incredible sculpt with amazing details on it. It's a phenomenal looking piece. It's just not the Cap I want in my collection. I will wait until they revisit him again and see if that piece is more in line with the classic Cap costume I'm looking for.

This is based off of Bryan Hitches design for a WWII cap in Captain America Reborn... At least it looks so much like it ... And seeing as Hitch was the guy who invented the visual look of the Ultimates it isn't to surprising you see the influence. I am REALLY torn n this piece... I think, for me it could all depend on what the Ex is... This just LOOS fantastic

I'm not a particularly big fan of the Cap, but this is a pretty neat statue, definitely the best to date. If I was into the Cap then this would be a must own.

Yeah, I know it's based off of Hitches work. I guess what it all boils down to is that I HATE the helmet. It's not even just a WWII thing, he's wearing the damn thing in all the new Marvel Now books as well. Give me the winged mask look any day of the week. It's the only one I'm interested in.

I totally agree needs a Winged Cowl!

The first punisher PF was severely lacking
You'll get no argument from me.

But you will from me. :p Still one of the most commanding pieces in my comics room —and I do have more than one piece, smart ass3s :D— and a great human head sculpt by Bergholtz.

There's no evidence that the new doom is even a PF

Let's apply some reasoning, though. Ever since Sideshow announced all their 1:4 pieces were going to be labeled as Premium Formats, back around the time Rhino CQ was revealed, how many 1:5 Marvel Comiquettes has Sideshow revealed? I can't recall a single one.

The only exception has been their recent Campbell trio, but that's just probably because it's a (closed?) set. Campbell style in 1:4 would probably look out of place among the rest of the PF line, and the smaller size —and price— is more likely to appeal to non-PF collectors than those beasts that the PFs are.

The way things are now, I can't think of a single reason for Sideshow to revisit such a powerhouse of a character in a scale that to this day seems all but forgotten.

But that's just me speculating.

I don't know if the new Cap and Red Skull would be considered revisits. They're WWII

Yes, they are. The attire is just the excuse. They know they'll sell, just as they know the new Hellfire Club Emma Frost will sell. The 'Hellfire Club' bit being just that, the excuse.

All it would take for this to basically be a classic Cap would be a change of head

No with those pants it wouldn't.

That is TOTALLY my hope as well and it would ENSURE an order.

I actually prefer the helmet look. Always thought the wings looked so silly.

I prefer the wings because that's how I picture CA but if we're honest pretty much every Superhero looks a bit silly in reality.

Like think of Wolverine, his classic costume is his bright yellow & blue suit. It's hardly stealth but at the same time does look cool & works in the comics

As iconic as the wings are... yeah, the helmet is probably a nicer sight for, shall I say, modern sensibilities.

I'm partial to Cap's wings (and Thor's) but the helmet looks pretty solid. Take away the tool belt and gun you almost have the classic look in a WWII setting. Stitchwork on this and Red Skull really make them stand out, great examples of a PF.

Anyone here considering selling their original Cap Pf to buy this new one?

I wouldn't sell the original if I had it.

I agree, anyone would be crazy to sell their original Cap PF. It represents a special time in Sideshow's history. It was a time when a PF cost less than $300 and had a PREDETERMINED ES and a reasonable one at that. It was a time when a pre-order drop would cause many people's internet to crash, statues would sell out within minutes and it always caused a collector named Pitu to either cry or jump for joy. The pose, size, and weight of this statue commands attention. A sculpture of this caliber will never be produced by Sideshow again. This work of art is not only a classic representation of Captain America but a classic Sideshow product.

Anyways, I will be buying the new one.

Sure the sculpt was great, but unfortunately you couldn't get a good look at it because of the pajamas. The cloth worked on Doom and Hulk, but not on Cap or Spidey. I do reminisce on the days where the prices and edition sizes were smaller, but the new statues such as Galactus and Apocalypse put the old Captain America to shame.:lecture

:goodpost::exactly:

I feel lucky that I joined the hobby in time to experience those awesome PO days. Waiting for the site to come up, and the queues and crashes. Great to think back on in retrospect.

I had the Ex of the old Cap ordered and decided to cancel - up until right now, that is one piece I would pick up, but I like this version and the action it conveys. My only gripe is about his machine gun, hoping for a switch-out hand.

Hearing about Pitu brings back memories. Glory Days!!

The crashes are not indicative of higher volume. If anything I am sure the volume hitting their site has increased. They woudl simply have increased the load bearing capacities of their web and database servers.

Ditto. I think the helmet looks better.

The wings are TOTALLY classic, but the helmet makes MORE SENSE given the WWII time frame, but a winged head COH.... Well you know my opinion on that...lol.

I think the good old days would have annoyed the hell out of me....lol. I want the art of these statues... Not the thrill of the hunt so to speak, and I think that though maybe some of the statues could be heftier the detail in the newer statues is just as good as MOST of the older ones.... At least from what I have seen.

Agreed with the above members that the helmet just fits this particular statue better although I do share the same feeling that the wings are classic cap. I'm just glad we got a dynamic/action pose Cap from SSC. Looks great and will display awesome with the new Red Skull which looks super slick in all the evil ways possible :yess:
