Re: Captain America 2: The Winter Soldier
Great post. I think they got his character mostly right in TFA. And TWS looks to be getting his superness and action right.
In terms of character I always thought of Steve Rodgers as Marvel's answer to Clark Kent. He is a soldier, but with a strong sense of ethics and a boy scout at heart. He's trustworthy, modest, respectful and occasionally at a loss for what to make of the world. He's the kind of person who would have found a way to be a hero even without powers, but now has the resources to really make a difference.
I thought the first movie captured all of that.

It's true that he came off as a nice, trustworthy, likable guy. But that could apply to the vast majority of characters that were written in the '40s-mid-60s (possibly every single DC hero barring the Spectre during this time). Maybe that does distinguish Cap somewhat from some other heroes in modern times, but I can see how a casual moviegoer wouldn't see it as particularly noteworthy. And myself being a long-time Cap fan and comic reader didn't feel it was enough, because it still felt like a fairly generic and superficial overview of who this character is. Having said that, I do think it was good at providing this broad overview, but he really needs to be better fleshed out, and hopefully the new movie will do this. That generic-ness was really highlighted in Avengers IMO, where he would have come off as forgettable if not for his iconic outfit, handful of one-liners, and being thrust into the tactical leadership role for no discernible reason.
