Re: The First Avenger: Captain America Discussion Thread

At this point it really wouldn't surprise me if they just waited until Thor to release a trailer. I remember Pirates AWE didn't release a trailer until like a month or two before it was released. It seemed for a time that there almost wouldn't be one. So I'm guessing Cap might be similar. No trailer until Thor and then a full on blitzkrieg until its released. And you know they will capitalize the crap out of it around the Fourth of July, although not having it done in time for the 4th was an EPIC FAIL on a Biblical level. I mean its like releasing a Christmas movie on New Years Day :slap

But then again, this will be Captain North-American-Non-Specific-Country-To-Be-Politically-Correct-To-Not-Offend-While-At-The-Same-Time-Still-Trying-To-Be-Captain-America.

Would not surprise me if they did wait until Thor.

From post 1961, last Thursday, the trailer was already confirmed to be with Thor.

On Super Bowl Sunday there were two TV spots that blew absolutely everyone away: Captain America: The First Avenger and Super 8. Ever since both of those mini-trailers landed fans have been waiting for their theatrical ads. Should the information be accurate, today I bring you good news and bad news.

Comic Book Movie has posted a list of highly anticipated trailer release dates and while Super 8 fans will be happy, those looking for Cap definitely won't be. According to the article, the theatrical spot for the J.J. Abrams film will be attached to Battle: Los Angeles, which will be released this coming Friday, but the first real trailer for the Joe Johnston superhero story won't be showing up until May and will be attached to Thor.

As excited as I am to see what the Super 8 trailer will bring, I am kind of upset that we won't be seeing Captain America for a while. That said, if this story turns out to be true, it does make some sense. If Marvel wants both films to succeed they can't let Cap steal all of the attention and buzz, particularly when Thor likely needs it a lot more. If the Super 8 trailer does get released this week, expect it to pop online first and you'll be able to find it right here on Cinema Blend.

That's just it, though. CAPTAIN AMERICA is not being released July 4th weekend for two main reasons:

1) Disney/Marvel & Johnston are trying to distance the film as much as possible from American patriotism so as not to turn off lucrative foreign markets. And probably because they're Hollywood PC titty-babies in the first place. This includes purposely side-stepping a huge July 4th opening blitz, which would obviously have pushed the patriotism angle to its extreme. On a related note, that is also why the "The First Avenger" subtitle exists in the first place: in many foreign markets that will be the MAIN title and "Captain America" will be the subtitle (if used at all).

and

2) The extra 2 weeks (in their minds) allows THOR to squeeze a few more pennies out of audiences, even though it'd have been out for 2 months.

In short, Disney/Marvel and Johnston have no balls. But we already knew that.

Re: The First Avenger: Captain America Discussion Thread

I think the reason they film isn't being pushed out has nothing to do with international perception. Film Studios have been staggering releases worldwide for decades. Often times rolling out a film a month later in different sections of the world.

Moreover, July 4th is just another day in Europe or Asia. They know our independence day as much as we know what the national holidays are in France or England.

Finally, I think the date has more to do with the film being complete. You'd be surprised how much of a film is actually finished in the last 4 weeks. 2 weeks before they hit theaters the cut has to be locked and the film mixed/scored as prints and deliveries have to be made.

We're talking about having it released on the July 4th weekend in America, not the other countries.

While that is often the case, it isn't here. They were set on a mid-late July 2011 well in advance. It could easily have been set for release in NA by July 4 had they not chosen to deliberately side-step the July 4th hoopla for their own (I say political) reasons. In fact, I've heard the completed film will start screening sometime in June.

Re: The First Avenger: Captain America Discussion Thread

Any chance we will see the Disney logo on avegers

Re: The First Avenger: Captain America Discussion Thread

They should release it on 4th July in the US and a week later elsewhere or even on the same date. The 4th of July means nothing abroad but it would be a nice touch for Americans.

Re: The First Avenger: Captain America Discussion Thread

I just caught a shot of ET when they said that tomorrow they'll be showing some exclusive bits.
