Re: The First Avenger: Captain America Discussion Thread

Hope this isn't true.

On Super Bowl Sunday there were two TV spots that blew absolutely everyone away: Captain America: The First Avenger and Super 8. Ever since both of those mini-trailers landed fans have been waiting for their theatrical ads. Should the information be accurate, today I bring you good news and bad news.

Comic Book Movie has posted a list of highly anticipated trailer release dates and while Super 8 fans will be happy, those looking for Cap definitely won't be. According to the article, the theatrical spot for the J.J. Abrams film will be attached to Battle: Los Angeles, which will be released this coming Friday, but the first real trailer for the Joe Johnston superhero story won't be showing up until May and will be attached to Thor.

As excited as I am to see what the Super 8 trailer will bring, I am kind of upset that we won't be seeing Captain America for a while. That said, if this story turns out to be true, it does make some sense. If Marvel wants both films to succeed they can't let Cap steal all of the attention and buzz, particularly when Thor likely needs it a lot more. If the Super 8 trailer does get released this week, expect it to pop online first and you'll be able to find it right here on Cinema Blend.

I dont know...I didnt think the TV spot really did much. Everyone thought it was kinda mehh....or that's the impression I got from it.

Re: The First Avenger: Captain America Discussion Thread

Trailer being shown as late as May? Its wierd, this film seems to be recieving very little promotion. If I didn't know better it looks like someone is trying to bury it.

Re: The First Avenger: Captain America Discussion Thread

^ I'm loving this Firefly love coming this week. It's awesome.

Re: The First Avenger: Captain America Discussion Thread

Well, ive been here long enough that its gotten embarassing for me not to have an avatar and sig yet. I figure it might as well be something I love.

Re: The First Avenger: Captain America Discussion Thread

Bring on Albert Pyun's director's cut of the 1990 "Captain America" on blu-ray in May. ;)

Re: The First Avenger: Captain America Discussion Thread

They spent enough money to put a spot on during the super bowl... that's hardly burying it.

Re: The First Avenger: Captain America Discussion Thread

And yet no toys are out, trailers arent coming out till may, and promotion for this film seems be barely existant compared to Thor, which seems to be everywhere lately.

Re: The First Avenger: Captain America Discussion Thread

It's coming out in May, so it makes sense. I wouldn't expect the Cap marketing Blitz to begin until the Thor movie gets released, and trust me, you'll feel it

Re: The First Avenger: Captain America Discussion Thread

I am so addicted to trailers, reading all the spoilers etc etc that for once it might be good for me to just not see or read anything and just go into the movie 100% fresh, well....95% fresh since i've seen the Superbowl TV spot already.

I haven't seen a movie fresh for decades now w/o any spoilers from reading and videos.

I have ZERO self control :slap :lol

This is almost exciting to not have a 2 to 3 minute trailer out for Cap.

Ahhhh ____ it...who am I kidding, where the ____ is the damn trailer already Marvel, bring that ____ on!!!!

:lol

Re: The First Avenger: Captain America Discussion Thread

At this point it really wouldn't surprise me if they just waited until Thor to release a trailer. I remember Pirates AWE didn't release a trailer until like a month or two before it was released. It seemed for a time that there almost wouldn't be one. So I'm guessing Cap might be similar. No trailer until Thor and then a full on blitzkrieg until its released. And you know they will capitalize the crap out of it around the Fourth of July, although not having it done in time for the 4th was an EPIC FAIL on a Biblical level. I mean its like releasing a Christmas movie on New Years Day :slap

But then again, this will be Captain North-American-Non-Specific-Country-To-Be-Politically-Correct-To-Not-Offend-While-At-The-Same-Time-Still-Trying-To-Be-Captain-America.

I figured this was the case. Thor would've been overshadowed by Cap if they were pushing both movies. They have the two movie posters next to each other at the theater and people always walk by both and say "Woah!!! Captain America!!!"

This made me laugh more than it should have. I guess I'm still half asleep.
