Re: The First Avenger: Captain America Discussion Thread

I wish Spielberg wouldve had an interest in doing this.
He doesnt have a problem showing what a$$holes nazi's were.

Re: The First Avenger: Captain America Discussion Thread

Can one really expect 100% historical accuracy in a movie where a skinny dude becomes superhuman and he fights a guy with a red skull face.

I'm willing to cut them some slack.

I'm hoping for a superhero Raiders of the Lost Ark type movie.

Re: The First Avenger: Captain America Discussion Thread

I won't lie, I have hated all of what I've heard since the announcements of Joe and Chris Evans. So from this point, they have to prove to me this movie won't suck. Nothing so far has done that. Because frankly, Joe is a washed up hack. I was hoping the images of the GI JOE crap we saw were confined to just that scene. Like the quick scene in Rocketeer where we see Super Rocket Nazis.

But instead all I've seen is the inability to take any risks or have any balls, to honor the origins of the character or his country, and the rewriting/rebranding of actual history to not offend all of these jerk off politically correct, I don't want my Justin Beiber child to know nazis were real, yuppies who have never in any way supported Captain America before anyway.

"to honor the origins of the character or his country"

AGREED! its about making him a Global Superhero to appease the politically "correct" and sell tickets overseas so it doesnt "offend" anybody

Re: The First Avenger: Captain America Discussion Thread

^ :lecture There were Nazis in Raiders.

Not only that, in Raiders a guy is impaled through the throat, face, and chest, people are poisoned, animals are murdered, Nazis get run over, chopped up by propellers and melt, implode, explode, there are swastikas on everything, etc. Oh and its PG.

2011 = Kids are sheltered pussays

Honestly this movie shouldn't be mentioned within 10 sentences of Raiders.

Re: The First Avenger: Captain America Discussion Thread

Man did this thread explode. This "trailer" didn't give us much that we didn't already know other than a split-second look at Red Skull.

Nothing has changed. The haters are still hating, and those of us who were pumped, still are. I'm glad to see the characters in motion, but I wish we could've seen more.

Re: The First Avenger: Captain America Discussion Thread

Well, I'm old-fashioned and I liked "The Rocketeer".

I was surprised when it was announced that Joe Johnston was doing this movie...I thought Marvel would want to go with someone more "hip".

I don't want to jump to conclusions based on a 30 second tease, but...it's looking to have more in common with "The Phantom" (the Billy Zane bomb) than anything else.

The CA outfit looked okay, the Red Skull tease looked cool and don't forget...this is gonna be an "origin" movie with all of the time-wasting "gotta show how he got here" scenes before any real "fun" can begin.

We'll get a better feel for what Johnston's trying to do here when a longer trailer hits. Til then, I'll give them the benefit of the doubt.

It's not the kids who are the "pussays", it's the parents who would rather blame entertainment for their own parental failings than themselves.

Re: The First Avenger: Captain America Discussion Thread

I think its stupid they don't have Nazi's. That's who Captain America was created to fight. If they want to make Hydra the main focus as a villain, I'm fine with that (especially if that's going to be a link to the Avengers), but there should at least be some Nazis in a WWII movie.

For a movie this big to be a success its got to have foreign appeal and Captain America has always, in my opinion, been much more about the qualities that make America great more so than America itself. That's why he sided against the government in Civil War. So as long as they keep Cap's core values of justice and freedom that is good enough for me.

I see what you're saying, Raiders is one of my favorite movies.

I agree with everyones stress over the missing Nazis from a WW2 based movie, if that's even the case....we don't know yet.

But if they did go that route than yeah, not too smart of them.

That being said, I only used Raiders as in hoping that Cap can provide the same kind of thrilling kinetic energy that Raiders puts out, not that I was comparing both as being equal in quality.

The only thing that really bothered me about that spot was Tommy Lee Jones expression....a wtf moment :slap I just can't seem to get Batman Forever out of my head, that's what that is about, so it's probably just nothing :lol

Uhh..after Schindler's List, he never wants to do anything with Nazi's ever again. Or so he said.

Re: The First Avenger: Captain America Discussion Thread

In terms of international appeal, the inclusion of Nazi's in this movie would negatively affect interest in what region? I can understand changing the title of the movie for screens abroad due to anti-American sentiment, but removing Nazis from the film? I hope not. I want to see Cap punch one in the face onscreen and in slow motion with the American flag waving in the ____ing background.

I can't imagine how amazing this movie would be if Spielberg did it. That's one reboot I can get behind. :lol

Sadly in todays world, more people would be offended by Cap saluting the flag in the movie than Nazi's being shown.
Probably alot of them around the bay area in Calif.
