Would you believe that the trolls made this movie more successful than it otherwise would have been? Their actions backfired?

In other news.... Captain Marvel takes $19M on Friday, bringing it to a 69% drop from its opening! Yikes people aren't watching it....

Except... IW dropped 70%, so did Logan, GoTG2 and more. It's slated to pass $700M worldwide this weekend.

I guess the dropoffs are right on the mark. :clap Unless it drops significantly off target, $1B is in reach.

Thats because so many people saw t already....

Its not a film thats going to draw repeat viewing like IW or SW

Good to whom? Good movie? Bad movie? All of that is completely subjective...the money on the other hand...well those dollars are the only objective facts...don't forget Mr. Business it's called the Movie...Business. Disney can't pay their employees with love and high fives from comic book fans.

What do you have to do though first in order to form an opinion on whether you did or didn’t like a film?

Watch a bunch of interviews with the lead actress 3 weeks before the movies is released and then get really hurt feelings by some nonsense comments that she makes right...?

See the movie.

Well people are definitely seeing the movie. People didn't buy 700 million dollars worth of tickets over the past week to stay home on the couch and stare at the tickets so I guess its all working out.

That’s not indicative of them having thought what they watched was a good film.

Kevin Feige says Capt Marvel will have weaknesses in future films.

"Well, the point of this movie was to see her exactly as you said, unleashed, unchained," Feige told SlashFilm. "What happens when she taps into her full potential not being held back? So it was not the time to hold back. It was not the time to emphasize limitations or loss. We’d seen that over the course of the rest of the movie. We wanted to see her cut loose. In future stories, well, none of the Marvel characters are immortal. Even ones that seem immortal, some people might be very hard to kill, but nobody’s unkillable. So if we’re lucky enough to see future adventures with Captain Marvel, of course there will be limitations and there will be Achilles heels and there will be things that we learn and see that it’s not as easy as a slicing through whatever she wants to at any point. But this wasn’t the time to accentuate that."

Of course not...but Marvel doesn't have to give refunds if people didn't enjoy it so who cares? If people hated it so much that they decided not to see Endgame, not a "boycott" by the way but a genuine desire to avoid it because CM left such a bad taste in their mouths then it could be a problem. However, you and I both know that the loudest voices complaining about CM are going to be the first people to not just buy, but whip out that Fandango app and pre-order their Avengers tickets the instant that they go on sale. I promise...PROMISE you that in the Disney Board of Directors meeting they spent at least 30 minutes combing through box office receipts and ZERO minutes reading over the Rotten Tomatoes Audience Scores.

That explanation doesn’t really make sense to me. Have them find out what powers they’re fully capable of, only to allow themselves to be more vulnerable in the future?

Could affect CM2 though. Just like TLJ backlash could affect Episode IX turnout. EG is a sequel to IW.

And, how much of that money was simply the “other side” boycotting the boycotters?

But I do concur that the biggest thing a corporation cares about, is money. Which is why it’d be remiss of them to leave it on the table.

As a lifelong comic book fan it's almost strange that something that was a niche thing for me growing up has become so mainstream...but I imagine that the people who are seeing CM and loving it...the folks who have not necessarily been big time comic book readers and would NEVER be on this forum will be lining up for a sequel.

Disney is playing it smart...really smart. Our society is so polarized today that it is impossible to try to please everyone because you will truly end up pleasing no one. It's never leaving money on the table it's going after the "money" that you really want. So if I am Bob Iger and I know that in some cases I have to make a binary choice between a single...definitely single...comic book loving weirdo and a family of five with a ton of disposable income to not just buy movie tickets but then book a cruise on my company's cruise line, then a vacation to my resort including expensive theme park tickets and maybe even costly annual passes, dolls...not action figures...but dolls of my girls' new and only ever favorite super hero...my choice is pretty simple. It's not a left wing conspiracy it's just business...good business.

Well the right wingers are claiming just that. Check the movie thread.

Wow...well anyone who truly believes that is simply suffering from mental illness and I sincerely hope that they get the help that they need.

EXACTLY! you guys know who does most of the budgeting and money keeping in most households?

One hint......its not the person watching football, buying comic books or obsessing over 20 year old movie franchises....

Research shows its the lady of the house...especially Disney research.

I read once somewhere that close to 90% of Disney vacations are booked by women.
