What does it mean that Ben Mendelsohn, always compelling as a villain—here he’s one of the bald, pointy-eared Skrull—ends up delivering the most likable character, supplying action heroics, snide remarks and even parental devotion?

All I needed to hear. Definitely seeing it now.

So the villain is more likable then the Hero, excuse me the Her-o!

What an insufferable woman. She's the type of woman that would take offense to a man holding the door for her and would scream "What? Are you inferring that I'm incapable of taking care of myself and need a man to be my savior!?"

Same women would have zero problem with guy vs guy fight, but would 'champion' domestic abuse if man hit woman (as they should).

It's so hypocritical.

Saw it tonight, was good but not great, typical formulaic Marvel fare. But then I’m just a grumpy old white man.

Also, they lay on the pop culture references to the point of distraction. It’s set in the ‘90s, we get it!!

Well first of the Rotten Tomatoes' "Top Critics" gave it a 3/5 (rotten):

So #CaptainMarvel is okay. It’s a unique #MCU origin story folded into a fun (at times) space adventure. But too many plotholes and lightweight characters weigh it down. It’s also missing a nuanced #CarolDanvers arc. It’s worth seeing but that #Marvel magic is a bit MIA.

To be fair, that's ONE comment. And IMO not unexpected, even tho Brie (to me) and/or media kinda made it sound like this was gonna be some trail-blazing statement piece:lol. Also don't know what he's talking about re a "nuanced arc???" Even the comics kept re-booting her; IMO there was never much there to work with *shrug*.

Onward to the beef (hopefully) e.g. End Game...

"playing a role that gives her scant opportunity to be human. It seems beneath her."

Pretty much what we felt in the trailers. Boring and flat acting. Hmm....

This is what happens when a C list character is pushed into the big times... But the cat is great!

There's a HER-O!

And then there are HEROS!

It at 86% now, with 35 review. The all importance audience score won’t come until later in the week. The true test will be if the weekend BO will come in north off 100MIL. We will see.

At this point I wouldn't trust the audience score here either. There's a bit of bad blood with how RT treated the initial Audience Interest metric.

IMO review sites are pretty much dead now. Can't trust the critics, can't trust the audience scores either. It's always better to just go see it for yourself and be the judge of it.

I still don't fully understand the negativity surrounding this film. Sure, Cap Marvel has never been the greatest of characters, but if it looks good enough for you to see it, then see it. I'm going to IMAX this sunday to see it, as I do all the marvel films.

Or just live like the old days and only read the reviews of one or two trusted critics who tend to share your opinion on films.
