ill be going back tomorrow to watch the ending.but as it stands right now...it's my favorite big monster movie

I still liked The Host better. Although, not sure if he's big enough to be a giant monster flick... more of a mid-size model :lol

You got to be kidding. I just saw it. I thought the monster design was terrible. The movie, if you can call it that, was OK, not great. As an experience, well... it's far from exciting.

This is only my opinion. I've been around too long to have this imapct me I guess.

One other thought, I really liked Hudson... his commentary was actually really funny w/o being too played-out or cliche feeling. I think he was entertaining enough to sustain the less action-packed parts of the film.

I liked him too. I thought it was great when he started talking about flaming homeless guys in the subway! :lol

SPOILER-

I thought his death was cheap. :monkey2

I found myself leaning in my chair and looking past the edge of the screen a couple times as if I would actually be able to get a glimpse of what was happening just beyond the camera, that's how immersed I was in what was going on. I can't remember the last time I was that actively engaged in a movie I was watching.

LOL! I was doing the same thing!!!!

Your opinion is wrong. :D

Sorry you didn't enjoy it. I thought it was fun and exciting. Even with all the little nitpicks I had.

I'm kind of surprised at all the people complaining that they were rich hipsters. I think there's a lot of apartment-jealousy at work there.

I find the critique that the characters were unsympathetic because they were "rich" interesting also. Still scratching my head over the hipster or yuppie slams. I wonder what the movie would've been like if it was a cast of poor characters and if those critics would've enjoyed that story more because of it. I guess it'd have to be a bunch of NYU students or set in Brooklyn without the climbing the skyscraper stuff as you have to have a fair amount of money to live in Manhatten these days.

The integration of cgi into real shots of New York (or wherever they filmed) was so believable it was scary.

I loved this also, especially since I went to school in NYC and saw so many familiar landmarks - I made out with a girl under the bridge at the end of the film once. :D I can't wait to read more about how the fx were accomplished.

It wasn't a movie??

I was really looking forward to this too. I had more fun with the anticipation and the trailers. The movie just didn't work for me. I wish it had.

Although I'd prefer this kind of movie told in a traditional way as opposed to the semi-real time docu-style they went with. But then again, that's why this movie only cost 17 M. And for that, I applaud it.

It wasn't a movie??

Not to me. Not in the traditional sense. This was more of an experience. An event.

That's awesome! I work in Manhattan, so it's a treat to watch it get stomped on...in a movie, anyway.

I can't wait for the dvd to see how they did some of this stuff. It was really easy to forget that they didn't actually destroy a city while filming.

Yeah, I agree about that... but at the same time I take that and a lot of the movie with the ere of blissful ignorance :lol

And the homeless guy bit really was hilarious.

EDIT Ha-ha, your white hidden spoiler really pops when quoted... oh well, hopefully anyone venturing in here knows what their in for.

I loved it. It beats the crap out of AVP or godzilla. Did anyone notice the last shot of the movie had SOMETHING falling from the sky into the waters of Coney Island?

I really liked the movie, didn't get disoriented at all except for on the bridge when he was whipping the camera around really quickly. I'm really surprised it was done with such a low budget as $25million. The effects are amazing, although in that one shot at the end where you can see it for a good amount of time looking at the camera looked way too good for a handheld camera.

I really want to see the special features for that DVD. And it'll be an awesome HD-DVD release.

Loved it, hopefully if they have a sequel they will have some mechs...

But seriously the monster was great, you could really see Phil Tippett in the design.

I loved the overture - ROAR, sounded like something out of Godzilla or King Kong.

NO BLU-RAY!!!!!

K, I just got back and Liked it a lot, not loved it, but glad I saw it esp in the theater!! Typical JJ movie I left with more questions the when I went into it. I really hope they have a sequel with...did it really die with the nuke, what the crap was it, more shots from news helicopters, etc...

8 out of 10 dancing wookies :chew:chew:chew:chew:chew:chew:chew:chew

but damn it I missed the thing falling out of the sky!!!

Does anyone else think of this as this years BLAIR WITCH PROJECT? The ways the compare are rather striking. Cheap budget with a clever gimmick used to cover up techinical limitations, no name cast, clever marketting campaign, style over substance, appeal to the young demographic, chance to make a lot of money ...

and i would predict.... forgotten totally in a year or two.

Yes I can't get over how many people have complained about th "Rich Yuppies" Seems to be a bad case of class envy. The characters were just fine IMO. In fact I never thought about them being Rich or Poor. I guess I was just too busy enjoying the movie.
