Also even Joe Pa wished he could have done more. The fact is he didn't. Any person with a brain would wish they would have done more. It is what it is. I think some people are trying to act like Joe Pa was the God of Penn St and everything ran through him. The President and the AD are really the two I have problems with. They put the University above people's lives. That can't happen.

The highest bidder for NC game is dumb, your going to rotate the semi finals and possibly have the same city host nc every year if they are willing to give up a lot of profits. You have 4 teams to fill 3 games, just rotate them through all 3 games.

I agree. Highest bidder is dumb but I think it could work if it were a situation like the SuperBowl where cities bid for it long before. Not just the 4 cities now(Miami, Phoenix, LA, NOLA). It should be much bigger than that. Give every city that can host a Superbowl an opportunity. Better yet just hold the Championship game where the Super Bowl will be held a month later. I'm sure there are going to be more discussions in the future and I'm just glad we FINALLY have a playoff.

Firstly I find it all but impossible to believe that Paterno, the head coach, was unaware of the first sex abuse investigation in 1998. That is why Sandusky mysteriously retired.

And honestly Sandusky would never have risked suing. Even if he had been innocent, a suit would have tainted his name and charity with allegations of child sexual assault.

I think some people are trying to act like Joe Pa was the God of Penn St and everything ran through him.

But isn't that the image Penn State allowed for years. I mean Paterno is the guy who a few years back refused to retire when asked and even in the days before he was fired basically tried to tell the Board to 'not bother' with his situation. The Board only asserted their actual power under intense national scrutiny.

At the very least, with a word Paterno could have had Sandusky barred from the athletic facilities, bowl games, etc., all activities that facilitated him being alone with his victims after 1998. Those were privileges that Sandusky held at least in part until last year!

The issue here is also that Paterno and Penn State actively held themselves up as paragons of integrity. Paterno was nominated for a Presidential Medal of Freedom for heaven's sake.

While Penn State was covering up a child rape scandal, other schools were getting sanctioned and flamed as 'dirty' because of various non-criminal issues that look utterly trivial by comparison. By covering up the scandal, Penn State protected its recruiting and revenue stream for at least a decade. The programme deserves the death penalty.

As something thinking about becoming a mother, who is also an American football fan, this issue upsets me deeply. I honestly feel torn if I can even follow my alma mater (Michigan) in the future knowing how far people will go to protect these sports institutions.

Star puffs want to discuss it go start a thread your words have nothing to do with football.

That is precisely the cowardly dodge I was expecting from you.
Really? I am not doding anything. You want to discuss a legal story start a thread , want to discuss college football do so here. Seems pretty simple, but I guess not simple enough for you to understand.:dunno

This was the major college football story of the 2011 season, whether you like it or not. Pretending it is just a "legal story" and telling me to go elsewhere is completely gutless.

Edit:
What else do you want from Joe Pa? He's dead for crying out loud. :dunno

I was just chiding them with Paterno, since he attracts such passionate defenders. The real, on-going issue is whether Penn State will face NCAA penalties for lack of institutional control. The NCAA has already said it is investigating that issue, so that is not just some fantasy on my part. If Penn State administrators start getting convicted for their role in a cover up aimed at protecting the football team from scandal, look out below.

Penn St def needs to be investigated and if they find they did in fact cover this up then I could see some penalties coming down from the NCAA. But it's never going to be enough to satisfy most people. The NCAA isn't going to hand down a death penalty. If anything it will be loss of scholarships and at worst a post season ban for one year.

They can't and wont do anything. Was any crime committed by a member of the team? Did this involve the football team? No, it happened the school athletic facilities which the person was allowed access by the schools administration and had no direct connection to the football team(outside he was a former coach). If there was a cover up then they need to be dealt with the legal system and the NCAA needs to stay out of it.

Agree. Just not sure what the NCAA could do. Lack of institutional control is so vague I guess they could file it under that. But it needs to be more of a legal matter than the NCAA to deal with.

Are reporters really that dumb. They just asked why cant they have a playoff like they have in basketball at news conference about the playoff.
