Re: Darth Malgus

I totally agree. I'm a bit perplexed as to why he has gotten this amount of attention. I personally have never played the game but I'm sure it has it's following. It seems as though almost everything I read about it says it is struggling to survive.

They have made this character now in basically all formats yet their are so many core characters that have either not been done or have not been done well. For example how long has it been since we have seen a 1/6 Luke or Han? Thank goodness Hot Toys gave us a proper Luke and although there are mixed feelings on the Enterbay Han & Luke, they at least made the attempt. I want to see SS focus more attention on the OT.

Having said that, I do think the Malgus figure looks nice. I do feel however that the price and obscurity of the character does make it a much tougher sell.

I think Sideshow is purposely laying low in the human headsculpt department because they realize they are still lagging behind HT and Enterbay.

Obi Wan got a very luke-warm (see what I did there? :monkey3) response here, but Malgus is a much easier humanoid figure for Sideshow to handle since they don't have to worry too much about likeness, and because there's some leeway in how the paint apps can be applied (because of all his scarring and such).

This arrangement of Sideshow doing mostly armored figures and aliens and HT handling the humas would be great if only HT GOT OFF THEIR IRON MAN BUTTS AND DID MORE SW FIGURES!

:exactly: :goodpost:

Yea, maybe they'll cast Billy Dee as James Rhodes/War Machine in Iron Man IV and we can bash a proper (albeit older) Lando. :)

There is no doubt that both SS & HT have a large portion of their eggs in the Marvel/DC baskets. If HT pumps out even half the Star Wars stuff that they do in Marvel I would be more than satisfied.

Re: Darth Malgus

Well at least its confirmed we are getting DX Anakin this year...but yes I would love to see more emphasis!

Re: Darth Malgus

Why is this guy being made before Dooku?

B/c SS has a boner for Darth Malgus. Life size statue, premium format, and now 1/6. All we need now are the Life size bust, legendary scale bust, Mythos and LSF to have him in all formats:yess:

Kinda sorta. The " malgus getting released in Every format thing" Smacks to me more of direct intervention from lucasfilm/lucasarts as part of an intentional Cross-promotion. As Star wars IS a licensed Property, Sideshow is subject to the whims of the Licensee in regards to the product. It's only a theory mind you.

Additionaly, out of all of TOR characters, Malgus is an easy sell, Becuase his design is done in such a way as to evoke memory of vader, who is uniqivbicably the " SYMBOL" of Star wars in as much as Mickey mouse is the symbol of Disney, and Spider-man is the Symbol of marvel.

This is why EVERY trailer for the game featured Malgus just in general being a "bad ***". it plays to the Fantastical visions of things many people imagined we would see Vader doing in the PT, before it's release.

NOt to mention, th put it in World of Warcraft Terms, Malgus is effectively the "Arthas" of the game.

End of the launch stuff storyline, Malgus betyrayes EVERYONE and makes a bid to sieze power from the emperor, making him the First "end-game" boss

Pre-Ordered for sure. I'm not stoked on the look of the unscarred head sculpt and I wish there was a light up lightsaber option like the TPM Obi Wan.. Also, a little birdy chirped that Vader might be coming around May 4th... Though, that's not confirmed..

Currious. Do you have the Obi-wan with the saber? If not, let me tel you, you're NOT missing much. It's EXTREMELY underwhelming, poorly done, oversized, and a concept best forgotten quickly.

If you do have it, AND you like it, that's cool too, but I think you're in the minority.

Meaning, that on the whole, the light-up saber was VERY POORLY recieved, and I don't see sideshow doing it again.

I think Sideshow is purposely laying low in the human headsculpt department because they realize they are still lagging behind HT and Enterbay.

Possibly, But I'd like to say that as far as lucasfilm heads go, Sideshow is no better or worse in the accuracy department than hot toys or enterbay.

I want to be VERY clear here, I'm talking about accuracy to the actor, NOT quality of the sculpt.
Without a question, Hot toys sculpts are of what I would call a higher quality. I'd put enterbay right there with them. Sideshows are not QUITE there yet, but they ARE gaining. Textured skin, fine details in the hair, etc. Hot toys is STILL superior, but the gap is closing with every release sideshow puts out.

Back to my point. Hot toys DX indy, VS sideshow Stormtrooper han ( most recent Solo) Sideshow Trumps hot toys in how much theirs looks like Harrison. Side by side, unpainted, it's a better likeness.

Hot toys has more detail, is casted in better material, and has better paint, but looks more like the guy at the Stunt spectacular show at Disney World, than it does Harrison.

Not even going to start on the Enterbay/medicom luke.

Enterbay HAN looks Tremendous, though something throws it off.

I agree 100%. Sideshow still has not figured out the magic ingredient HT and Enterbay have to make their sculpts look so realistic and ultimately more high-end. Sideshow's sculpts are second to none, thanks to Trevor Grove and company. But the manufacturing process, although much better than it was 5-6 years ago, continue to be one step behind especially when compared to HT.

Doing aliens is much more forgivable, and obviously it's not an issue with armored figures (clone sculpts notwithstanding).

Re: Darth Malgus

Never. that's Fan speculation. It was confirmed the NEXT Star Wars DX was Anakin, it's speculated me MIGHT see a proto at SDCC this year, and MIGHT get a preorder by the end of the year.

NO WAY IN HELL it'll be released this year.

Re: Darth Malgus

Somebody mentioned this earliier and would love ,love it to be true if we see another sith preorder on MAY 4TH . Alway's emotion is the future hard to see. May the 4th be with us.
Again this is just a rumor.

To the contrary my friend, Mr. Chan did confirm we will be seeing DX Anakin this year at a toy show this past February. There was an interview with him, and he went on to say there plan going forward was to release one figure in the star wars line per year. The interview was posted on facebook.

5. Any plan to make 1/6 Star Wars vehicle?
X-wing?
Howard : Vehicles in Star Wars too big to be produced in 1/6 scale, will be developing in smaller scale.

Re: Darth Malgus

I would have to assume at this point that this character's release is mandated by Lucasfilm. The game has pretty much failed in every way, and as cool as this character looks, I didn't see overwhelming demand for him like we do a dozen other characters.

Well at least I have a HT Han to look forward to in 2015...

But I just know you're super excited for Anakin!

you're a little new ( within the past year) so you may not know. Howard Chan says ALOT of things that don't pan out. He's kinda the peter Molyneux of 1/6th.

We're STILL waiting on Captian Harlock.
We're still waiting on the Alien Queen
Dx canibal Jack Sparrow?
Another Robobcop?
Avengers Black widow was Going to have Sculpted hair becuase of the fan backlash to the rooted on the iron Man 2 version.

Additionaly, Iron man, Mark 42 was announced 1 month ago, put up for pre order this month. and scheduled for relase in FEB of next year.

Avengers Thor, Hulk, Loki were Delayed 6 months or more
Who knows what happened to Thor movie Ver of Loki.

lets not forget it took them over a year from announcement to shipping with Dx luke.

Howard Chan can and will say whatever he wants and likes. What actualy happens in reality?
to quote Captian Solo " that's something else"

So, my end point is, I expect we might possibly see Anakin at SDCC, and might even get to order him before the year is out... but there is no way he will ship this year.

THIS is more likely

Anakin 2013 show, Late 2013 order, ships late 2014

Han MIGHt show at 2014, but more likely 2015, order LATE 2015, ship late 2016. and so on.

Trust me, Hot toys Star Wars will be DX only, AND VERY slow going.

I am more excited for this guy than any figure from the original trilogy. Those costumes look incredibly dated in comparison to what costume designers come up with today.
